Tigerdirect has the 3.0 version of this flash drive for $42.99 right now. Much better deal, imo.
Sorry for the long link, I'm on mobile.

Cheaper at Amazon. Free shipping since it's over $35.
I have the 64GB version and it's pretty damn fast.
I also bought a 128GB flash drive to keep some common repair program on and it has saved me a lot of time and trouble.
Put it all in a small backpack and you have a nice repair kit on the go!

Software! I use these weekly and it saves me a lot of time and trouble. I am open to suggestions on what you can also use, and would recommend using google for tutorials if you need help :)
edit//
If anyone else has suggestions on programs/tools to use i'm all ears. I've been doing repairs for the past 6-10 years (personally and for business) and these are the best things i've found so far. You can never have too much info/tools though :)
And make sure you upvote everyone else who is giving you ideas/suggestions. A community that grows together knows more :)
It would likely be far more cost effective to put it all (game, artbook, and soundtrack) on a 128GB Flash drive.
I'm sure those things are probably ~$15/ea wholesale.
If you wait for a sale you can get 'em cheaper http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Turbo-128GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B00FE2N1WS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426130378&sr=8-1&keywords=128+gb+flash+drive
Because this is better?
DO EET
The Pi runs SD cards at a lower data speed than usual in an attempt to maintain compatibility with cheap chinese SD cards.
> What are you running?
I'm currently using my Pi 2 as a Plex Media Server, with it booting the OS from the SD card and storing the video on a 128GB USB 3.0 drive. I'm not sure which kind of flash chip it uses actually, though it is this product.
Just a heads up... this isn't nearly as fast as some of the good USB 3 drives.
I just bought this for $35.
Much better read-write speeds.
Just do a clean install of windows, and make certain to have all your chipset and drivers ready to install when you do. I always install drivers after I'm done updating windows, but that's just me. Make certain your SSD is plugged into a sata 3 port on your motherboard, if you have one/them.
If you want to save any files just back them up to an external HDD or a significantly large flash drive. You can 64/128 GB flash drives now for reasonable prices like this one:

It's perfectly fine to ask questions. My field of study doesn't make me any more knowledgeable about what to do in these situations than most other people in this sub, but it lets me track down problems slightly better.

Have you tried investing in something like this?
>It backs up everything for all profiles, and will take up more than a USB stick...
that is not necessarily true. OP said his brother has an original PS3, so he may have only a 20, 40, or 60GB hard drive. 64GB USB flash drives are inexpensive and very common these days. Heck, you can get a 128GB flash drive for $35 delivered right now. moving up to a 256GB, it starts to get expensive.
I was going to try to sell you my old one, but you're better off with something like this.

Just to give you an idea of my setup, I'm using this USB stick. And I'm running that with an otg adapter. It's decent priced and much lower power draw and space required to carry.

What about this?
This is a good deal: http://amzn.com/B00FE2N1WS
I went to Costa Rica for a week earlier this month and bought this combination to take with me:
RavPower FileHub ~$45
PNY 128GB USB 3.0 Thumb Drive ~$42
You connect to the FileHub with an Android or iOS app via wifi and browse the contents of the USB Thumb Drive (or external USB HDD). I used this combo not only to backup my photos from SD cards while traveling, but also to play movies (which were stored on the USB Thumb Drive) on my Nexus 7 on the plane.
As a bonus, the FileHub also has a 3,000mAh backup battery. Not only is the battery to power your Thumb Drive or external HDD, it will also charge your phone/tablet/etc. as you use it. I charged my tablet while watching movies on the plane.
So while this isn't exactly an external HDD that accepts SD, it is a potentially cheaper option since you could use this with an external HDD you might already have laying around.
It's not bad. Personally I would buy it from Amazon because I like them and their 2-day shipping, or just go to the local best buy and price match.

was it this model, by chance?
Amazon also has the PNY 128GB at $34.99 which is much faster.
I'm a little late to the party but...
This pen drive is 1/2 the external's price and it's 128 GB. Middle option.
Warranty doesn't matter, I want them to work and not constantly lose data/reinstall etc. I'm glad I abandoned them years ago, lol. I mean it wasn't like 1 bad drive, BOTH broke basically within weeks of each other. Mechanical can be easily broken by shock too. They're also slow as dirt, I see no use for them outside of you need mass storage that is easily accessible, and even then better backup it so you end up having to buy 2. If I needed mass storage anyway, I'd just use Blu ray discs, for everything else, SSD/flash. They are cheaper now anyway 130ish for 250 gigs for Samsung EVO, 3 years ago was way crappier on price. Just hope now I'm not jinxing them and they also break!
Flash drives also are getting much cheaper too for 128gig sticks, they're also fast now.

I have an old patriot flash drive that so far, has outlasted multiple mechanical drives. I don't even remember when I got it, at least 6-7 years ago. I even used it for a bit to play Empire Earth 3, lol. I'm off topic now...
Not sure, here is the amazon link

I have this, it's a USB 3.0 flash drive. I bought it to try Yosemite (an entire OS is pretty slow but for testing was good enough), and now I use it for games. So far I just have Borderlands 2 and The Sims 3 on it, and both games run very well from the drive. If you have specific applications that eat up space, this is probably the cheapest fast storage for the money. Full external SSDs exist, but they are still pretty expensive.
If it's just data, you may also consider a regular USB hard drive. USB 2.0 hard drives are inexpensive and good enough if all you need it for is file storage.
I get a little nervous I might bump something like that.
I bought a couple of these and a couple of these, as I have a few microSD around.
for movies, I like this, though. fills up quick.

150mb/s read and ~60 write, it's 128GB, and is ~50 bucks, this baby means business.
No one can beat my deal (I'd like to see some though).
I don't know about that. Considering reusability, network speed, etc, this seems like a fine deal if you get to store two movies at a time and use it hundreds of times.
And, honestly, nobody legitimately has access to movies of that size/quality in raw form that they'd need to put on a USB stick or optical medium. From an OS install perspective, nobody cares how many tens of gigs you can fit on a usb stick.
Based on your conversions I think you are either confusing network and USB speeds (measured in bits per second) with storage speeds (measured in bytes per second). SATA an the other interfaces are measured in bits per second as well but the actual drive performance measurements remain bytes. An average 7200 RPM HDD can saturate a 1 Gigabit link. A 2 pair RAID 0 SATA III SSD or half a single M.2 PCIe drive can saturate a 10 Gigabit link. A 2 pair m.2 PCIe RAID 0 configuration can saturate a 40 Gigabit link.
I get 440 MB/s read and 410 MB/s right over USB 3 to my SSD but I have an enclosure that supports UASP as I said. Here is an article about UASP from 2012 when it was first hitting the market, their charts show they go from 30-60 MB/s to 280-360 MB/s. Even normal BOT transfers on a plain USB stick break the USB 2 max rate as seen here.
As for sequential read speeds of an HDD this article from 2010 shows even a crap-for-the-time 5400 RPM 500GB seagate getting ~75 MB/s seq write.
Ah, I see. Thanks for all your help. On a related note, could I run my Steam games off a flash drive instead? I was wondering if it would cause longer loading times, or lag, or both. This is the drive I had in mind: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FE2N1WS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2XQGWMKN9NF6&coliid=I2ZS8UA6EYS6Q1&psc=1
It's only $39.99 shipped from Amazon brand new, for what it's worth.
