If you want to go half-ass and cheap then program a bicycle computer, they can be had for $25. Might take some screwing around.
But you can pickup digital speedometers with magnetic pickup for motorcycles on the cheap.
And I see gps speedometers to. So common today even amazon carries them.
Late Edit: not gps but these two catch my eye. Can't say they're any good or not.
