To expand on that:

2TB portable external HDD: $70

1TB portable external SSD: $310 - $397

1TB USB Flash Drive: $700? - $2.5k

The Amazon result was the only I could find that was selling a 1TB flash drive (ebay has them too, but ebay also has a lot of fakes); which I believe had a starting price of 700 dollars when it was first released. But given that nobody seems to sell them anymore, it seems this Amazon retailer decided to jack up the price.

While this is true, it's not the whole story. I know external ssd drives like the Samsung I linked down below that have fast enough read and write speeds to play the games straight from the ssd.

In addition to performance, I'd be concerned about the life span too if we're talking about flash drives. Even the best flash drive out there isn't going to have anything remotely close to the write endurance of your typical SSD found in Macs and PCs.

For an ultra-portable on-the-go OS or a testing OS though? Oh hell yea, it'd be a thing of beauty to toss macOS on one of those tiny Sony or Kingston USB Type C flash drives.

Other than that, there's plenty of actual HDDs and SSDs that come configured as an external drive with a USB Type-C connection that could be used. But something like a Samsung T3 gets a little pricey for what it is... If you really wanted to blow some money, you could throw a Samsung 960 Pro into an M.2 external enclosure. :P

Is the "stick" form factor very important? I'd probably get something like the Samsung T3 if I were in the market. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AVF6UO8

Def buy one of these external tiny SSDs.

Samsung ones are proven, i think other companies have them too by now.

Not cheap but worth it. Comes in 500gb, 1tb or 2tb.

Hi,

I think it's a good idea to keep everything. I also recommend shooting in RAW. It takes too much time (if you shoot a lot) to have every RAW file uploaded to the cloud. Also, you don't necessarily want to save every single photo you shoot in the cloud.

I recommend saving everything to an external HD when you import photos. I like Lightroom, and it can automatically save photos to one or two external HDs upon import. That takes care of your archive.

THEN you can create a gallery in Lightroom, and you can edit that gallery to your best shots. These I typically adjust, save, and upload to Dropbox. You can choose the service - Amazon, Google Drive, Flickr, etc - that you like most.

There are many ways to accomplish these tasks, and I'm sure everything people have mentioned below will work well. The key is to find a method that's simple and easy for you to do consistently and without having to think too much; you want a system.

By the way, I recently purchased a Samsung SSD that holds 1TB of data and is very compact and lightweight. It's also sturdier than a drive that has moving parts. For those of you who travel a lot, or keep your stuff in a backpack that goes everywhere, you might like checking out these drives. They are expensive but solid.

I use the two items linked below. Upload all my footage each night to the ssd. But really any external USB hdd will do, I've even used 128gig thumb drives. Just something to dump/store the media until I get home.

It's either the Seagate Slim drives that's already been linked or more expensive flash storage:

• USB Drives look to top out at 512GB ($367 CAN)
• A Toshiba USB-C SSD External 500 GB ($280) or 1TB ($520).

To expand my Macbook Air I went piecemeal: Sandisk Cruzer 128GB + 2x 256 GB SD cards (one in native slot, one in USB adapter). Would not recommend - the Cruzer drive is tiny but gets real hot, and SD cards aren't known for being particularly reliable.

Samsung external 1TB should be plenty fast. Less prone to failure. Runs off power supplied by USB. Samsung T3

I actually just finished setting up a similar setup for my high school's football team.

From the info you have given me, I would recommend the following.

Camera: Canon Vixia HF G20 - I personally have a lean toward canon cameras. Regardless of that, it is a great camera with great low light capabilities, dual SD card slots for longer record times, 32GB of built in memory, full hd recording, AC wall power adapter for longer record times, and more.

SD Cards: San Disk Extreme 64GB or 128GB - Great cards with good speeds and since the g20 has dual sd card slots, using two would then double your record time. With a 64gb card, we usually get 8+ hrs on a single card. If you go for 128, or dual card, you will get more record time. If you are going to need to be able to shoot for a long time and then shoot again the very next day and do not want to have to off-load the cards, it would be easier just to get a few more cards.

If you get a lot of SD cards, I find it useful to have one of these to protect your sd cards.

I would certainly hope that you have a dedicated computer for your uploading tasks.

If your computer does not already have an SD card reader, that would be a good thing.

You did not really specify how often you would be doing shoots and for how long you would want to store the data for. In terms of short term storage, you could just use the hard drive on your computer if it is big enough or you could get an external drive, large enough for the last few (~3-5) shoots before you transfer it to longer term storage or delete the footage. Within this you have two options, hard drives or SSDs. The difference being transfer speeds and cost, SSDs are faster and more expensive. Here are two options.

In addition to all this gear, I would recommend uploading to youtube because it has a much better uploader and I think the user interface is a trade-off that is worth it. Especially since you will be uploading a lot of footage.

More detail about what you want would also help in giving advice.
