I like flashlights. Carrying a big "fuck you" Maglite is impractical for me, I prefer my more reasonably sized Streamlight Polytac. Aluminum flashlights would perform even better as an impact device.

Flashlights in general are good for at least three reasons. First: light is a weapon. 100-200 lumens or more, flashed into the eyes of an assailant at night, is going to be a welcome advantage. Two: flashlights made by reputable companies (Streamlight, Surefire, and many others) are very, very good kubotan substitutes. They have weight and are resilient, a good striking tool. Three: it's a damn flashlight. Anyone who objects to a flashlight on your person can be made to understand the myriad uses for such an object in short order.

>Is the polytac a weapons light?

Yes it's safe. I own and use one on my rifle.

>I don't think it's recoil safe.

The lens is "Unbreakable polycarbonate with scratch-resistant coating" and the light source is "C4®LED technology, impervious to shock with a 50,000 hour lifetime." [Source - Polytac Fact Sheet from Streamlight.com]

It's also marketed as a weapons light by Streamlight themselves (scroll down to see ad on that link where Streamlight advertises it as a weapons light), and commonly used as a weapons light by people in the firearms community. One guy even shot over 500 rounds of 12 gauge buck with his Polytac and it's still running just fine.

This streamlight would be awesome. Thanks once again for putting this on.

The Polytac has served me well. Small but sturdy, and very bright. Fits in a cargo pocket if you need it to. Just don't rely on the clip as it'll break off pretty quick. I bought a holster for it.

I have a couple streamlight PollyTac lights that have worked well for me. The downside of the polymer body is that if you over tighten the mount the light can be stuck in the "on" position until you lossen it a little. https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-88850-PolyTac-Flashlight-Batteries/dp/B001S0IN46/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1473949936&sr=8-16&keywords=protac

If I was do do-over I would get one of the aluminum ProTac lights for $10 more. I think they are the same diameter. https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-88031-Tactical-Flashlight-Batteries/dp/B00396S1Q2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473949936&sr=8-1&keywords=protac

Does the end cap button click on/off if fully depressed or is a twist style on/off system? I love this button type of switch on my Streamlight Polytac: http://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-88850-Polytac-Flashlight-Batteries/dp/B001S0IN46/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1325174536&sr=1-1

I just put this one on my shotgun. Good light for the money!

I've got a streamlight polytac that I use the exact same way you're describing, they go for around 40 bucks. It's got a good clip, on low it's plenty bright and on high it's really bright. It uses cr123s, but if you use it on low most of the time like I do the battery life is pretty great. also they're tough as hell, I'm on my second one and my old one still works fine after being drowned in oil and fuel, and dropped from ~20 feet multiple times. I keep mine in my backpack mostly but clipped to your belt or in a pocket it's plenty comfortable. I use it for general edc, work, and camping/outdoor stuff.

Been a lurker for a while and really want to get into lights, currently own none. It’d be super cool to win! Good luck everyone and thanks OP, very generous to do this

I use a Streamlight PolyTac 8850 on a Monstrum Tactical Offset Mount. The light is 275 lumens and pretty well focused, looks like this. The price is right, too.

Streamlight's Polytac can be had for about $35. Throw it in a Blackhawk mount, and you've got a decent setup for less than $50.
