All the suffering we experience is because we are judging what is happening rather than accepting it. Not only do we have the pain from the event, the judgement heaps mental trauma on top of that. Acceptance does not imply you do nothing to change a situation, instead it is the necessary first step to fixing the problem. Forgiveness... is a tool by which we can set aside our ego judgements and instead bring about a state of grace. It does not really have to do anything with other people, but more of the way we are continuously reviewing the world and our situation... and finding it LACKING.
If you want to dig more into the concepts you can look at the disappearance of the universe or the foundational material for it, a course in miracles. Note: these are very much not religious books
Within the time constraint you can learn your lessons or not, it's your choice. The time of your illumination has already been decided by yourself (your higher self), if you are serious about the topic then you should read this book about the mechanics of all this crazy life. I always recommend the same book, it's the one that helped me.
