Do you think your parents would be open to reading about being transgender, if you sent them some resources? I know it sounds like he's freaking out right now, but it probably hit him pretty hard given the culture issues and his own expectations for how your life would go. My mom said that this book helped her a lot, in terms of realizing it's a normal thing and that other parents have gone through their child's transition just fine. http://www.amazon.com/Transitions-Heart-Struggle-Acceptance-Transgender/dp/1573447889/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464501316&sr=8-1&keywords=transitions+of+the+heart

I would start to organize your stuff if you can, if only to show that you can look after yourself (since transitioning is looking after yourself, and you'll have to be your own self-advocate, it's good to get in the habit of being responsible for your own stuff anyway). Maybe they'll come around after getting used to the idea, though. Plan for the worst, but hope for the best.

You might talk to your therapist about getting your parents in a session with said therapist. Right now your parents only see you as their daughter because for the last 16 years that's all they've known. When you were born the doctor probably proclaimed, "It's a girl!" As scary as this is for you, don't forget it's also scary for them.

When they might be more ready, you could give them this book:

It's letters from mothers of trans/gender variant children. So many books about trans people are written by trans people. That doesn't really help parents trying to understand what it is their child is going through. This book is a lot more relatable for parents.
