DO NOT buy the Hori Mini or the MadCatZ Alpha. Both of these sticks are so ludicrously tiny and lightweight that they will not stay put in the heat of the moment. I have two Mayflash sticks that I put Sanwa parts into and they work just fine. If you decide to do the same, make sure you buy this cable so you can put the Sanwa joystick in.

These are not included with Sanwa joysticks so keep this in mind, you need this to mod the Mayflash.

I have a Mayflash F500 that I use between my PS4/PC/Raspberry Pi/Switch and it works perfectly.

HOWEVER, there are a few things to consider.

  1. It is a cheaper stick. Everything is swappable, which is good. But it only took a day before the stock buttons start squeaking. I've already swapped the buttons with Sanwas and have a Sanwa stick on the way as well.


  2. To use it on your PS4, you'll either need to keep a PS4 controller plugged in to the front USB port of the F500 or buy Mayflash's ~$20 PS4 dongle. I have the dongle and it works as advertised.

  3. By the time I bought Sanwa buttons/stick and the dongle, I'm pushing $150 in total spent on the F500. This is the cost of a brand new Hori RAP/etc. However, I did not want to buy one Hori stick for my PS4/PC/Raspberry Pi (does the Hori work on a Pi?) and then a second Hori stick for my Switch. I figure if my F500 PCB dies, I can buy a second F500 and still come out cheaper than having bought the two Hori sticks. However, if I wind up having to buy a third F500 for the PCB...

  4. If you get an F500, and you want to use better sticks (Sanwa, etc), you'll need to buy a 5 pin harness as the stock stick does not use one. Amazon link to the 5 pin harness.

    All that said, I'm very happy with my purchase.

    The stick itself has usable stick/buttons but it doesn't take long to see the need to upgrade, in my opinion. And the upgrade process is simple. To me, it made sense to go the Mayflash route as I only need the one $150 purchase to use across all my gaming platforms. I just hope this thing doesn't start burning through PCB's as I do not want to have to buy and store two different sticks.

My first fightstick was a Qanba Q1. I replaced the stick and buttons with Sanwa parts as per the usual advice. I really dug it. So much so, in fact, I'm thinking about buying a Qanba Drone for a backup stick and adding a Sanwa JLF and Hayabusa buttons(my personal preference ever since I bought a Hori RAP4). I'm also currently planning a custom fightstick build, but thats neither here nor there. If you're set on buying a stick, the Qanba Drone should make a great first one, assuming the quality is on par with the Qanba Q1. Its a bit on the light side but it can be weighted. You can get stick on weights at any hobby store like Hobbytown USA etc. Just remember to switch out the stick and buttons with Sanwa parts. Just an FYI for when you're removing the balltop, you twist the balltop off. Do not twist the screwdriver. Thats just for holding the shaft so that it doesn't spin while trying to unscrew the balltop.
