Or just buy a real one and at least have a chance of evidence on top of your theft deterrent method.

The reviews are a bit mixed when it comes to tech equipment I've learned you have to take the reviews with a grain of salt. I install and support the equipment. My oldest system at the moment is 6 or 7 years old and I've had to replace one camera. I had to replace that one camera because of a power surge, there is no surge protection on that system. Replacing a camera is easy, you unplug one and plug the other in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000TGC03U/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1375085536&sr=8-1&pi=SL75 this camera is the same quality as the one included in that kit and as you can see its inexpensive and uses a really common Sony image chip. I used to buy equipment locally from a specialized dealer only to find out most of what those guys are selling the same exact products as what I've linked for about 3x this price. I have installed no name dvrs in the past and I will say I recommend Zmodo because of the support and forum information. The key to DVR buying to know what a DVR like this is. Its essentially a small computer running a Linux DVR operating system, thats it. 90% of the cameras online are the same exact product with different branding. Ive had my local distributor tell me this and can vouch for that info having taken cameras and DVRs apart. I'd be happy to piece a system together for you if you'd like. The only issue there is you kinda need to know what you are doing. When running the cables for these systems (no matter what brand you choose) handle the camera with care and only connect the camera once the wire is run. Also never force the cable run if you have to pull hard as hell on a cable odds are you're caught on something and if you break the plastic coating on the cable you could cause a short and ruin your camera. Now with my installs I dont normally use preterminated cable like whats provided here simply due to the fact running rg59 and terminating with BNC connections is easier for me as I have the supplies and knowledge to run this stuff. I think for a first time install the preterminated cable is going to be your best choice. To put pricing in perspective, id charge roughly $2,300 USD for an 8 camera system with a 1tb DVR, battery backup, 18" LCD monitor, install, and support. Support for things other than security incidents (I go to the clients business or home and retrieve data for law enforcement for no additional charge) or total failure is around $75-$100 an hour.
