Not to shame you, just flash prices have gone down to crazy low levels in the last year or two if you haven't kept up.

I put one of these in my laptop and it just flies now. . .I even put a couple in a striped RAID on my desktop and the throughput is phenomenal.

I'm not the option you replied to originally but here is my recommendation. I went with the 500GB one and only have certain games, that I frequently play, installed on it. I only trust Western Digital with hard drives. I've had multiple Seagates fail on me over the years and will never buy one of their hard drives again. Samsung has some SSDs out but I am not familiar with them and don't personally know anyone that uses one, so I can't say anything good or bad about them.

You'll also need to buy a USB adapter if you get that or a similar SSD HDD. They're $10-$20 on Amazon.

There are faster drives but if you are on a budget that is a pretty good deal. I have been using it and had several crashes and I am back in game in like 20-30 seconds compared to 2+ minutes before. Also, during normal game loading I used to only have 10 seconds to run around on the loading island and now I have 50-60 seconds. Buildings load as soon as I land now too. So not sure how much faster a more expensive drive could make it but this one works great.

If you are pushing for more storage, get a 3.5 HDD ( TB size depending on what you want) with 7200rpm, not as quick as an SSD, but good enough for having more memory without paying a lot.

• 1.) Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 3.1 cheap plastic but well designed.
  
• 2.) PSU - Corsair CX Series 450 Watt 80+ Bronze cheap and ok.
  
• 3.) Anything cheap WD Blue 3D NAND 250GB makes a good boot drive.

Is there a downside to getting a WD blue SSD vs a Samsung 850 Evo? WD 250gb SSD is 30 dollars cheaper and what appears to be the same specs and storage as Samsung.

I would go for 1 8gb stick over 2 4gb, just because dual channel isn't going to make a substantial difference for you and allowing yourself the extra ability to upgrade is going to be more beneficial in the long run.

I understand. For cheaper, there is the Dell Inspiron 15 2-in-1 and you can add a 2.5" SATA SSD like this one, which has 250 GBs.

The Kingston is slow and has a poor reputation for quality.
The Sandisk is slow I don't know about the quality level on it.
Not sure about the Wd Green as they've discontinued them in the US.
Haven't heard of the Tammuz.

Usually for a cheapest-possible drive it's between an Inland Ssd or the Adata Ssd. The Adata gets good speed results, unknown about quality.

For a midrange drive it's usually between Wd Blue 3d or Crucial mx500:

I'd go for slightly cheaper case. Either the Meshify C is a great option or the Cooler Master Masterbox if you wanna stick with the RGB.


I'd go a little higher end on the PSU. The Seasonic Focus Plus is a great tier 1 PSU and fully modular but if you don't want to spend more then go for a Corsair CX series which is semi modular at least. Or if you wanna maintain the RGB theme you could go with this Thermaltake PSU.

Double your SSD capacity and get a higher tier one for only a few bucks more with the WD Blue.. Or go with a M.2 form factor one since your MOBO has a slot for it.

Just some ideas. CPU and GPU are good combo, as is the RAM.

How picky is it about mixing/matching drive sizes in RAID 10? I ask because I was going to use the 3 250GB WD Blue SSDs in RAID5, but I now have an extra 250GB Samsung 850 Evo. If they'll work together, I'll just go RAID 10 with the 4 of them.

As for the other two drives for media, I don't need to be able to swap them so I think I may just get a SATA II card. The media is already on them and I hate the idea of having to create single disk RAID 0 arrays and then move it all around just to have them sit in the front of the machine.

Thoughts?

I know it says you have drives to re purpose but for reliable stability Ive found that re-purposing drives can sometimes be a headache, good price and decent performance go for a WD Blue SSD for a boot drive. I listed a 250 GB which is still pretty cheap but if that goes over your budget you can get 120GB SSD's which work, but often I personally find that the price per GB usually leans in favor of getting the 250 GB SSD for a better value:
