Broken record but I like the Yamaha YAS-108 $180 as an entry level soundbar.

Any way you slice it, $400 for this soundbar with Android TV built-in is a terrible deal.

My biggest problem with this soundbar is that you will be relying on JBL for software updates. This is a company with zero track record for software development and support. Until they can prove they are competent at this, it is a nonstarter for me.

The second thing is that the price simply does not justify the convenience of having an Android TV box built into the soundbar. If it was $100-200, I would understand. But at $400, the competition and alternatives are way too fierce.

If I am being generous, I would say this soundbar is on par with the Yamaha YAS-108. I seriously doubt it though. I'll give them the benefit though. This is a $200 soundbar.
A Mi Box S is $60. This bring the total value of having two separate items to $260. Is it really worth the $140 price difference to have them built into a single item?

Another alternative for $400 would be to start a proper home stereo audio setup. Once again, $60 for a Mi Box and $340 for audio equipment. You can buy a cheap amp, a couple of bookshelf speakers, and a subwoofer for that price. That would be the beginning of your very own home theater setup:

I realize I'm a little late to the party (just joined this subreddit), but we have a TCL 55" 4K tv with built in Roku and it works wonderfully using HDMI (ARC) with a basic Yamaha YAS-107, but apparently there's a newer model out now, which I'm sure would work in a similar fashion: https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YAS-108-Built-Subwoofers-Bluetooth/dp/B07D73HMVR/

When all connected up via HDMI and the ARC (Audio Return Channel) enabled within the Roku settings, the soundbar automatically powers on anytime the television comes on and we control the volume (basic settings only: up/down, on/off -- no Subwoofer, Bluetooth, Surround/Stereo, etc.), but have found it to pair nicely with the Roku experience.

Here's kind of a decent guide to get you going if yer unsure how to set things up: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/hdmi-arc-faq,news-26262.html

Unfortunately, your HW-j355 doesn't have HDMI inputs, but the Yamaha is in the same price range. There's also a version with an external subwoofer, but these entry level versions also have the ability to later add the same external subwoofer should you find the experience isn't booming enough for your specific room/tastes.

Yamaha YAS-108

Great sound, perfect voices, and ARC works without problems unlike other soundbars. I'm using it for more than a year.

By the way, I had the same problem with my 75" 900F hardly could hear voices, so it's not you, it's Sony.

I just bought a used one for 150-160... Works pretty nicely with my new 55" TCL 4k HDR TV

If you can wait a while, I've seen this soundbar go as low as about $100 for a refurb model, which most people say was just unsold inventory from a Costco or similar place. Really wishing I'd bought one back then for my old room at my parent's house. Live and learn.
