I did not get a memory foam mattress when we did this, I just used a spring one I had on hand. We did later use a memory foam one off Amazon we used with the same setup: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005G5SIRG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ah word, if it's not a daily sleeper than that makes more sense haha.

I'd probably pick Zinus in that case, something like this

Amazon has memory foam mattresses that are $229, but they're the thinner ones and not everyone likes memory foam.

I just bought this mattress and it's absolutely incredible. I was nervous about being able to feel the slats since it's only 5" thick but it's not a problem at all and it's the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. Feels just like the memory foam ones that cost 5X as much or more

I've been happy with this inexpensive Zinus memory foam mattress from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Master-Ultima-Comfort-Mattress/dp/B005G5SIRG I put on my futon frame that folds out to a platform bed, but you can also buy metal frames from this company. I've had it about 10 months so far and it's still comfortable. I went for this particular mattress because it offered the most firm foam for the money and I prefer a firmer mattress. The prices on these things bounce around all the time, so check camelcamelcamel before buying. I paid $130 for a queen, but the same mattress is now $210. This one is currently cheaper and offers more firm foam: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4N3QJ1

Check the reviews on this Amazon mattress for $154 in a queen size. Free shipping if you have Prime. Get a platform bed from them too. No need for a box spring. https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Master-Ultima-Comfort-Mattress/dp/B005G5SIRG/ref=sr_1_5?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1501402389&sr=1-5&keywords=queen+mattress
