...I am ashamed Im dropping such long links.
Phone holder
something like this. It comes with a sticky side so you can either put it on the back of your phone or inside your case
The mount looks like this.
You don't need to have it affixed to the windshield, just in a place where the reader can easily pick it up through the windshield. I have my transponder sitting on the top of my dashboard, "held" in place using an anti-slip pad similar to this. I haven't had a problem in ~5 years.
You can also just hold it up against the windshield whenever you pass through a toll plaza, but I prefer to go hands-free.
You can shorten Amazon and some other links by removing unnecessary parts, such as referrals:

... can be turned into:

... and the link will be the same
I have the Xperia 1, which is just a tiny bit bigger... I had the same problem.
My solution was to go with a magnetic mount, and then I glued the metal plate to the back of my phone case.
The are just metal plates for my magnetic phone mount.
They don't look the best, but the system works really well.
This is what pockets are for.
Or these goofy things - Click me, I don't know why I'm not blue
Something like this or this (I personally use this one).
You can also search for 'car console phone rubber pad holder'. It should pop up similar results.
This one fits perfectly in the little cutout on the dash, and it fits my iPhone 7 in the bulky Otterbox case.
well, I live in Los Angeles, earthquake country (just had 4.4 a few weeks ago) and we bolt our stuff to the walls with angle brackets. I used 4 inch brackets from the table tops to the walls.
I cut these up:

It's a PU (polyurethane) pad that sticks with really small physical interactions... sort of like the hairs on a gecko's foot. Since it's not an adhesive like tape, the chemical doesn't "wear out". You can just wash away all the dust stuck on it with water. Check out this video for a brief explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bpeUiezLts
It's like those anti-slip pads you can put on car dashboards, but specifically formatted more for mounting the camera. http://www.amazon.com/Dashboard-Pad-magic-Anti-slip-Non-slip-Electronic/dp/B00AYOXE46
That's perfect! I'm going to get a silicon gel mat and mount it on the back! Thanks.
This fits perfectly on the space between the head unit and the information screen.

I use Tesa strips to hold heavier items up under my desk, and sticky gel pads for lighter stuff.
This is a list of stuff I use to hide cables.

Just my two cents, I had this same holder in my '16 and didn't care for how it blocked a large part of my touchscreen head unit. I'm looking for a new phone mount as well.
I'm looking at either this: https://www.amazon.com/IPOW-Generation-Anti-slip-Lightweight-Dashboard/dp/B01GCI7BCI/ref=pd_sbs_107_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01GCI7BCI&pd_rd_r=1W482C1GQR75ACWFQBCG&pd_rd_w=I15cP&pd_rd_wg=ouIh4&psc=1&refRID=1W482C1GQR75ACWFQBCG
or this: https://www.amazon.com/Cigarette-Lighter-Voltage-Detector-SOAIY/dp/B017N7N0TA/ref=sr_1_62?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1523993451&sr=1-62
I would probably use the first one and stick it in front of the top display because the larger touchscreen has my backup cam, and I've found I rarely look at the top lil display. I like where that sits because it's within my eyesight while driving and I would prefer that so I wouldn't have to take my eyes off the road.
The bottom one, I like how that would be adjustable and sit probalby just below the temperature controls, and would be able to plug it in while using the phone.
Probalby gonna order both and send back whatever I don't like.
I use the round metal plate from this set and my wireless charging works just fine.
How about getting one of those nonslip mats like this and cutting it down to fit on the credit card side? It will be fine pressed against your screen when it's closed, but also prevent slipping when propped up.
Yea, I just picked up some of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00O2HYV7K/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Ended up having to super glue it to the back of the tablet because when the car heated up, the adhesive would let up and pop off. It's pretty low profile so it's not really noticeable when the tablet is out.
I just glued a couple old hard drive magnets to the back of the bezel and it works great. Just have to push on a corner to get it to pop out. Just make sure it's not too close to the edges of the n7 because it has the magnetic screen lock built in and will turn the screen off when it senses a magnet on the right edge.
It works great and I'm glad I made it removable. I use the tablet for streaming video with Kodi like every night (recommend. Best media app ever.)
I bought this mount a while back and it came with a couple to use.
though you can buy extras Here...they aren't the same brand, but they should work just fine.
Instead of a strap, I use one of those sticky pads that are made to hold your phone on the dash. Slap it to the back of your uke and it'll stay in place.
