Might I suggest an anti-fatigue mat? I used to absolutely hate cooking dinner after I got home from work because my feet would be so tired that standing for another 30 minutes was excruciating. I got an anti-fatigue mat for Christmas (the exact one in the link) and it’s been magical. I can stand and cook for much longer without pain. I could never go back to life without one.

It is an anti-fatigue mat and according to the product description, "(it) conforms to the shape of your feet and supports your arches for relief of back, leg and foot discomfort".

I bought this particular one.

Why not just put a clear plastic bath rug on the bottom?

  I don't have a KVM, but I simulate having one. All my peripherals - keyboard, mouse, webcam, left & right monitors, are plugged into the USB hub. In PC mode, the USB hub is plugged into the back of the Dell monitor, which is in turn plugged into the PC. In Mac mode, the USB hub is plugged directly into the MacBook Pro. I keep both a DVI cable (for the PC) and a DisplayPort cable (for the Mac) plugged into the Dell monitor, and I use the monitor controls to switch inputs when going between platforms.
  
  I know there are software solutions for sharing keyboard/mouse between computers, but I'm generally working on one computer or the other - I'm rarely, if ever, working on both.
  
  I use the MacBook Pro for daily work (Java/web development, Photoshop/Illustrator), and the PC for hobby work (C#/.NET) and gaming.
  
  The MBP is thin enough that I can slide it under the keyboard to get a total of 4 screens. I generally use the MBP screen for Skype & Campfire windows.

If you stand for more than an hour you'll want a padded mat for your feet. I have this one and it's like standing on a floor made of soft baby squirrels, but there are lots of other options out there too.

Yes I think my downstairs neighbors appreciated the difference...

The first night I did it just on a yoga mat and they came up to knock on my door before the warmup was done.

Nights after the padding I did long sufferfest rides and they didn't return.

It wasn't really soft, it was dense thick foam, and the trainer i have is very stable.

Nope, lots of people have gaming rooms. I have a two bedroom apartment and have setup the smaller bedroom for my gaming PC. After blocking opff space for the desk chair and computer it leaves about 10'X10' for room scale.

I plan on getting some foam mats for the floor, and thinking about putting some on the walls as well. Not because I think I'm going to slam my vives controllers against the wall. I'll be careful, but I could see guests doing that.

I don't have a link to the mats, they're from a local hardware store. Similar to these though.

We have tile throughout the main living areas of the house and one large, very thin oriental area rug in the living room. After my son whacked his noggin on the hard floor a second time I knew we needed to do something to get him through the crawling/learning to walk phase. We ended up getting two sets of these mats and two sets of these gates (though we started off with one and one while he was just learning and didn't need quite as much space) and set up a baby jail area in the living room. I also got a bunch of these anti-fatigue mats to put underneath our thin area rug in the living room. Worked great - now that my son is 15 months old and running/jumping/spinning/dancing/climbing/sliding/tackling/throwing fits allofthetime I'm much more comfortable letting him do these physical things on these padded surfaces than I'd be if he were on the tile.

Probably a little big, but you might be able to find smaller ones elsewhere.

Cheaper and trimmable

I wouldn't be, it's the walmart of tools. With all the disadvantages that come with a Walmart, like quality decreasing across all stores to compete on price. Plus, a lot of their stuff isn't even that cheap. Like $8.99 USD isn't "cheap" for those kinds of mats, it's just there's only 4 pieces. This one here is $8.50 CDN for 4 pieces, and is better quality, it's just 12 instead of 4.

Also, you might feel you're saving 50%, but when half the things you buy fail quickly, you realize you saved zero dollars.

It might have been cheaper before you could buy Chinese direct stuff off of Amazon, Ebay, Alibaba... but now you can get stuff that's the same price, but higher quality. Like personally, I own their $12 with coupon, power drill, and it's pretty terrible. I couldn't use it for a lot of jobs andended up buying this one instead. It's vastly superior, and what, $10 more?

It's pricey, yes, but in addition to keeping one centered, it should also be pretty comfortable on the feet.

UPDATE: Love this mat! Not only does it always let you know where your "home" position is, but it's super comfortable as well. No more sore feet! It also doesn't move around very much on carpet... so no need for two-sided tape.

Semi-offtopic: I'd suggest these for your kitchen. Not for noise reasons (although it will help) but for your feet.

I use one of these. It's definitely pricier than the puzzle piece mats people have been recommending in this thread but it's so damn comfortable, it's totally worth it imo.
