-Boppy with cover

For Mom:

  • To wear in the hospital: a nursing gown and a robe

  • To wear home: stretchy maternity pants , casual nursing shirt , nursing bra, undies.

  • Makeup mirror. I found that I didn’t want to stand for long periods of time after the birth so I am bringing a small makeup mirror this time so I can put some makeup on in bed after a shower.
  • Toiletries bag: tooth brushes, toothpaste, q-tips, Tylenol (for husband), mouth wash, chapstick, Lanolin.
  • Makeup bag: makeup wipes, face wash, moisturizer, concealer, mascara, blush, powder.
  • Water bottle
  • Extra long phone charger

    For Husband:
  • For hospital: basketball shorts, shirt, underwear, socks.
  • To go home: shirt, shorts.
  • Snack bag: trail mix, protein bars, mixed nuts, crackers, 5hr energy drink.

    For Baby:
  • For most of the hospital stay I plan to have him in just a crossbody snap top , diaper, and a swaddle. This makes for easy skin-to-skin and diaper changes.
  • Going home outfit: crossbody top, matching pants, Hat, Socks
  • Two summer hats for our July babe. One to wear in hospital and one to wear home

I second the nursing sweatshirt! Bonus points for nursing tanks to go under it. Nursing tops can get a little pricey, but I LIVED in them. A lot of them have tummy coverage, too. One of my favorites for affordability and easy access was:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MF5NNEL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rRYzDbRRFR488

I also splurged on one nice nursing maxi and it was the best decision (I can't find a link for the dress itself but here is the page it is on):

I also had a wrap top with an empire waist, and a maxi dress that just happened to have a deep v neck and super stretchy material. They were a little harder to nurse discreetly with, but a cardigan helped.

And psychologically, you just have to start expecting stuff to get messy. If it fits you now, and you like the way it looks, just wear it! If it gets spit up on, that's just your life now. If you try to save it for "later", you may change sizes or taste before then. It almost always washes out anyway!

You probably don't need to get anything, but it sure is convenient and something you can keep an eye out for sales. I skipped the nursing clothing and just got the bras and tanks and then layered more weather appropriate clothes in top. Cardigans and full zip hoodies are your friend if this is what you want to do. Also, stretchy scoop neck tops are usually great too, but it will stretch them out so don't use something you actually want to use again.

I had bras and tanks from the Gilligan and OMalley line at Target and they were fine. I'm small chested (30B) and have a long torso and the tanks were a little on the short side for me, especially after a bajillion trips through the dryer. I had a pack of these and they were great for longer torsos. I've already ordered a pack for this time around.

I found bras with no underwire to be more comfortable, and I had one in black and beige and found that to be a sufficient number IF I had enough nursing pads on hand to keep them from getting leaked on between loads of laundry. This was really only a problem the first month or two until I got the hang of it. I also had a few of the "sleeping" bras for around the house, but can imagine those wouldn't be enough for someone larger than me, plus a couple sports bras because I went back to running as soon as I was cleared to do so. I'm buying all new this time around and will probably do roughly the same amount, which was just fine to get me through 17 months of nursing but everything was looking pretty worn out after that length of time.

H&M for jeans and cute sweaters. I don't normally like their jeans or pants but they were the only ones that I tried that were still flattering on my figure. Loved old navy for solid tops. Recently bought nursing tank tops on amazon three pack for $40 and they are working amazing as a nice undershirt while I am 36 weeks but are spandex and would have been awesome at any stage and you can keep wearing them PP. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LC507TK/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Bearsland-Maternity-Sleeveless-Breastfeeding-lightgrayf/dp/B074LHHM35?ref_=ast_sto_dp) Tank top. I wear it with jeans and a sweater now that it’s getting cold. It had easy nursing access and is cute. I also like this I also wear it with a sweater and jeans (Are you sending a theme yet?) I’ve been struggling to fine professional looking nursing tops for when I return to work, but I figure these two will do okay with a blazer.

Good luck!

i actually really like having nursing tops, especially in summer. i live in texas and i can't do the two shirt method for like 5-6 months out of the year. i really like these tanks , this tank, these for sleeping in, and these are ok. i think i'd rather get these if i end up getting more. i like the way the smallshow ones lift up as opposed to the motherhood maternity ones that are a side opening.

u/noodlesnoots · 2 pointsr/breastfeeding

I live in these tank tops. I have 6 of them now and wear them every day... I have a problem with getting milk all over myself constantly so I go through more than one each day and just wash them all the time. They are really good quality for being so inexpensive!

And I wear a nursing tank top under it so literally no skin shows in it except nipple and surrounding areola lol. Not that I care personally, I also nurse with my boob out in public occasionally but it’s getting cold and the weather screams hoodies lol

I'm not sure where OP got hers, but I have similar ones from Amazon.

You're a bit early for nursing bras because they are very likely to change as you get closer to baby, and especially after your milk comes in. Look into Bravado nursing tanks. They are sized like bras, but are your standard nursing tank. More support than all the other shelf nursing tanks, but can get you through the first bit of baby when you don't want to leave the house and just figure out your new life. Then, after your boobs have equalized a bit (milk comes in, nursing on a regular schedule, less engorgement) go get fitted. If you do it at Nordstroms, they can make ANY bra into a nursing bra. Supposedly you can do it yourself if you are crafty, but with a newborn? No thank you. That's something to outsource (along with cleaning your house).

I can say this - my boobs went up one band size and two cup sizes while I was nursing, then slowly over the next couple months deflated to my pre-pregnancy size, but they were definitely a different shape. I really disliked all of the wireless bras, and went with full underwire because its what I was comfortable in.

I’m only 2 months in but for me I don’t mind the touching from breastfeeding as long as it’s over the clothes. My baby has started reaching out more so if I’m not wearing a nursing tank then she will start massaging my bare torso and it feels pretty uncomfortable. You can always switch away from breastfeeding at any time and for any reason, just don’t let the “mom guilt” get to you!

I lost a bunch of weight pre- pregnancy so my bra was super loose in the cup size, so I have grown back into mine. I am still wearing an underwire cause I haven't had space restriction issues. If I need another bra before I am going to buy a nursing bra.

My best friend is a mom 2X over and she buys nursing tanks with nursing pad inserts and goes braless. In case you are interested.
