/u/Devario - if you want a Manfrotto head with light weight carbon fiber sticks, variable pan/tilt drag, a low profile and a max payload capacity of 15.4 lbs., you can save a little money with the [$836.49 (as of this post) Manfrotto 502/535CF] (https://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-Carbon-Tripod-Padded-MVK502C/dp/B005ZMWSGW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20).

Hope this is helpful and good luck finding the right tripod for your needs!

The only real way to bypass the recording limits is to buy a field recorder like this one Atomos ATOMNJA003 Ninja-2 10-Bit HDMI DSLR Video Hard Disk Field Recorder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IN8I3XM/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_xBguybW16Y4P8

FZ1000 can output clean HDMI to an external recorder, but displays "recording" on the HDMI out once you start recording internally - so it cannot be used with an external monitor while recording to SD card (please see [this] (http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2014/07/31/the-panasonic-fz1000-can-output-clean-hdmi-video) reference from Imaging Resource).

A relatively inexpensive solution is a [$295 Ninja Star] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KO1XFZW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00KO1XFZW&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20) with HDMI "pass through" and a [relatively inexpensive CFast card] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JYFTEKY/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00JYFTEKY&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20).

That way, you could record 1080p ProRes 4:2:2 to the Ninja and simultaneously send the signal to your external monitor.

Hope this is helpful!

Congrats, /u/paxsonsa! I know I'm weighing in late, but I think it's the right decision to go for the GH4.

That said, if you don't need the external monitor function of the [$995 Ninja Blade] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IN8I3XM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00IN8I3XM&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20), you can save some money by getting the new [~$300 Ninja Star] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KO1XFZW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00KO1XFZW&linkCode=as2&tag=battleforthew-20) [Referral Links].

If all you need is 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes recording capability, you can save yourself 700 bucks.

I have both the GH4 and a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (the only camera where BM has fixed most of the early "black spot" problems) but I still recommend the GH4 because it is so much easier to use.

Hope this is helpful!

Hmmm...pricing this - doesn't seem any cheaper than the camcorder option ($4,000):

a6500: $1,800
70 200 mm: $1,700
Ninja-2: $1,300

That's actually more expensive...$4,800

Sorry, am I missing something? I thought this was to be a cheaper solution...?

There must be a cheaper way - I'm really not concerned about video quality - 1080 should be more than enough ... considering an iPhone records the video just fine - we just need to get the audio in to some video...

Thanks again!
