My Recently completed basement. Mostly used as a home theater for my wife and I but also for occasional parties. Equipment list is below. Due to budget constraints, I had to re-use a lot of my old equipment, but I did purchase the projector, screen, mount, and ceiling speakers. Next upgrade is a new subwoofer, but that probably will not happen for a while. I have a set of bose surrounds that I plan to use as rears eventually, and to switch the in-ceiling over to be Atmos speakers. Sorry for the not great pics, I'm not that great with cameras. I know everyone hates Bose, but considering they were free from my parents a few years ago, they sound pretty decent.

We use the Peerless AV PRG-UNV where I work. We have over 120 projectors installed. The mounts are great to work with. You may only need to interact with it once every few years, but when you do, you don't want to have to fight it.

For power, put a outlet in the ceiling if you know how, or call an electrician. Running extension cords in the wall or drop ceiling is a big no-no.

50' HDMI, I would start with an active HDMI cable, especially if you are doing 1080p. Something like Monoprices Redemere series, or similar. If there is cat6 already installed conveniently, then an HDBaseT solution would be nice as well.

u/sotodefonk · 2 pointsr/projectors

There wont be a lot of mounts like that because that is simply a wrong way to mount the projector. That way you lose a lot of IQ because unused pixels using keystone correction.

I dont know if you can mount on the ceiling or the wall, but you need something like this.

Then mount your projector UPSIDE DOWN, there are holes on the bottom of the projector to mount it. This will remove the need to tilt the projector like that, and also decrease the amount of keystone correction you are using, so its better IQ. There is option on the projector to correct the image upside down, if I recall correctly its MENU>Setup>Projection> select the front ceiling icon.

If you still need something similar, maybe something like this will work?

u/dark_knight097 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Take a look at this . Here is an adjustable mount.

u/teebob21 · 2 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

> I knew it had to be a university. It just looks like something they would spend too much money on.

Considering these motorized mounts can be purchased for under a couple hundred dollars, and these are common in office conference rooms as well, I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish here.

Are you saying universities are inherently spendthrift and wasteful, and thus should be expected to indulge in such heinously profligate purchases such as hiding a $4,000 projector up in the ceiling where it's much harder to steal?

u/Wafzig · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

There's a VESA adapter for this series of monitors.

u/homeboi808 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

This may work.

For a 130”, the closest it can be lens to screen is 12ft 8” (so call it 13ft to be safe). Now, for a 130”, the bottom of the projected image will by default be at around 90” lower, so you would definitely have to use the vertical lens shift to adjust.

How much do you want to spend for a screen?

I just mounted a projector and this is the mount I used:

http://amazon.com/Peerless-PRGUNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G/ref=pd_sim_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=13ENAJESQ9FWDCRRWBVQ

It has a similar configuration and I used two lag bolts, which is overkill really. A projector isn't that heavy. In short, just use the two that hit the stud.

u/tooldvn · 2 pointsr/projectors

TV tray - I'm guessing this is about a 40cm wide stand that is right next to the wall? Do you have a coffee table? The GT1080 projects close to a 3m picture from about 1m away from the wall. You could set it out on a coffee table when you want to do some big screen action. If you would like to mount it from the wall, you can do that too. You get something like this and you mount it to the wall stud and don't have to worry about the ceiling. There are quite a few on Amazon under this price point.

u/Freddicus · 2 pointsr/projectors

This one's been in my sights, but I don't own a projector, yet.

u/Duckapus · 2 pointsr/projectors

I have a projector mount I got off Amazon, ceiling mounted. My audio situation is still a bit hanky. I have an HDMI switch that I use, and honestly I have an optical cable that runs from my most used output (my PS4 Pro) to my sound bar. My sound bar also has Bluetooth so when I switch to my computer I just connect to that. Unfortunately I haven't quite figured out an all in one audio solution with the projector. I know long optical cables are an option, to do just audio from the projector to the sound bar, I just haven't gone that route yet.

Edit: this is the projector mount I bought. Cheap and works very well! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01014CD0O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CADhAb2DM2GN7

u/Knoxie_89 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

It's a little rough around the edges as far as cabling goes, but I'm not 100% set on where my gear is going to go. For now its on a bookshelf opposite the screen. Once I use the room a bit and get a feel for things I'll move the outlet closer to the projector and fish a HDMI cable through the wall/ceiling instead of going across the ceiling.

u/agray20938 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Yeah, there are tons. Just make sure it's one that fits your projector (they have lists of compatible projectors), and one that reaches down long enough for you to get a perfect picture.

You don't need a pitch/yaw function, even less than you'd need lens shift on a projector. If you're ceiling mounting it, just make sure it's lined up perfectly and at the right height, and you should have no need to ever move it from there, and thus no need to ever use pitch/yaw.

Check this one out. it's pretty popular: http://smile.amazon.com/Peerless-PRGS-UNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G/ref=sr_1_20?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1462456827&sr=1-20&keywords=projector+ceiling+mount

It's got an attachable arm to make it longer if need be. But, if you're paying for installation, the guy might be right, and getting that $150 mount might end up being cheaper, or close to the price, and you'd have a higher quality mount now too.

u/baggar11 · 2 pointsr/DIY
u/dzhou10 · 2 pointsr/projectors

so something like this would work? My projector only has 3 holes in the back so if this fits the triangle, it should be ok right?

Also, what do you mean the projector will flip the image? I tried just hold it upside down and the image is didn't flip.

u/asilva54 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

I used this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IDC0K2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

works fine, but a pain to get level. I ran a 50ft hdmi cable up the wall but there were parts of the room i ran it under the baseboard which lets you fit a good 4-5 cables under usually.

u/lgcobra · 2 pointsr/nebulaprojectors

What Nebula projector do you have?

Depending on the one you have if it has a mounting 3mm screw then you can use any that allow like the one below. Just make sure it has a 3 mm Wrench on it.

You can take a look at this as an example but there are different ones

This is what I used to mount my W1070. Was pretty easy to set up and has been rock solid. I don't know if it will fit the W1100, but it is very flexible in terms of connections, so I'm betting it would work.

u/omegaweaponzero · 1 pointr/xboxone

I used these when mounting to the ceiling, it was super easy to install. projectorcentral.com will help you with how far away to have the projector depending on the size of screen you want. It generally falls into a range and then you can use the zoom on the projector lens to adjust how you want.

I do this same exact thing on a monthly basis. I have a theater in the basement with speakers behind the main screen and I have a ceiling mount for my epson 3020 that allows removal with one screw. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TXNS6G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I also have a table set up outside with marks indicating where to place the projector and have a pull down screen outside. Depending on how much of a HT snob you become (I'm real bad) you may not be happy with the imperfections in the wall. You may want to look into wilsonart laminate screens for indoors. They are very cost effective and offer a good picture for the price.
So, one of my major hurdles I faced was the sound outside was abysmal compared to indoor. I had to purchase another set of tower speakers just to drag outside for movies. I resolved this by adding a second 2.1 setup upstairs next to my deck and putting an old second bluray player/receiver there. Movie night involves unplugging the projector and undoing the one screw(the mount holds it position), carrying the projector outside and installing it onto the second mount, carrying two polk 50 series speakers outside, and running the hdmi cable through the doorwall. Its relatively fast and painless, all setup in about 10 minutes.

u/wouldyoulikeabag · 1 pointr/macsetups

I linked everything I've used in a reply to your original comment! It required a mount adapter the back piece of the monitor that looks like a hook just slides right in.

Edit: in case the VESA description of the item threw you off (just noticed that), it just screws right onto most mount arms and you're good to go.

u/Ash_shops_smart · 1 pointr/hometheater

You could use a simple wall mount like this and build up some 2x4 structure with a wide base for behind / under the couch and paint it to match the mount. Any reason you can't ceiling mount it ?

u/_walks · 1 pointr/projectors

Oh those look great, but they're a bit pricier than i anticipated. What's the difference in performance that I'd see between those and something like this? https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Universal-Articulating-Extending-MOUNT-VP05W/dp/B071R2C487/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=vivo+projector+mount&qid=1569541210&s=electronics&sr=1-5

If i need an extra $150 to add 10 inches in length, I might just keep the projector a bit above optimal height and keystone it.

u/umdivx · 1 pointr/hometheater

This Mount

Depending on your projector you can mount the projector directly to the round plate instead of the arms.

That is about as low profile as you'd get with the ability to make some adjustments.

IF you don't need to make any adjustments you could just mount the projector directly to a piece of wood and screen the wood to the ceiling.

u/P2D_ItsME · 1 pointr/audiophile

This one.

It's technically a short throw projector mount meant to be on the screen wall (but my PJ is not short throw), so the projector is mounted on it backwards. Not its intended use but it works perfectly.

I couldn't ceiling mount it where it is because there's a fan above it. I improvised.

u/RocktimusCrime · 1 pointr/projectors

Projector: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LL2SHK6/

Attached it to the ceiling with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IDC0K2

Projected onto this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00446MTDM/

And I just bought some big screwhooks and some chain to hang the screen, but probably would have been easier to just put these in the wall: https://www.amazon.com/Elite-Screens-L-Brackets-Spectrum-ZVMAXLB6-W/dp/B001EHAI6Y

First go.

I fiddled with the angles and aspect and eventually got the image and screen edges to lineup.

So far I love the Optoma. It is clear and bright with ambient light in the room, colors are crisp and vibrant, noise is minimal or nonexistent with media audio playing, internal speakers are not bad at all. Has four display options 16:9, 4:3, "Super Widescreen", and LGX(I think). Changing between inputs is very quick and efficient, and set-up is incredibly simple. I've got a Chromecast and Roku3 thrown into it, and will be hooking up an older Bose 3-2-1 into it once I put shelves up for the speakers.

I do wish the volume could get softer as "1" is still loud enough to be heard through closed doors. I also have had one instance of turning the projector off and then 10 seconds later just the audio kicked back on. It also puts out not a small amount of heat.

I have the BenQ W1070

u/jhirn · 1 pointr/projectors

https://www.amazon.com/Short-Throw-Projector-Universal-Extension/dp/B0042PHXOA is the one. It’s a huge room in an office so the wall on the other end is about 30 feet away. That wouldn’t be an option.

I’m also considering a different projector. Something ultra short throw where a 56” or less could get me the size I want but the price/performance is right on the benq.

u/rogue780 · 1 pointr/projectors

So, you should have screw holes on the bottom of your projector. They are designed to work with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/QualGear-PRB-717-WHT-Universal-Projector-Accessory/dp/B00COF74G2 (I'm not endorsing this specific product. It was the first one that came up when I searched for projector ceiling mount).

These kinds of mounts let you adjust the exact angle of your projector relative to the wall/screen.

If you're set on using the mount that you have, you're going to need to place some objects under the front of your projector to raise the angle and eliminate the keystone as much as possible.

u/SeafoodDuder · 1 pointr/projectors

If you search for the projector on amazon, it says that Epson 4010 is frequently bought with this mount and a screen. The mount looks alright to me in some of the pictures. :)

As a follow-up, do you have any advice for mounting that projector to a ceiling? What I have to go on right now is that Amazon is telling me that customers who bought that projector also bought this mount...

https://www.amazon.com/Peerless-PRGUNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G/

u/eh_fuck_it1980 · 1 pointr/hometheater

Ok, no no on the fan attachment idea. Let's go with in front of the fan.

What about one of these mounts, they claim to be easily detachable?

http://www.amazon.com/Peerless-PRGUNV-Precision-Universal-Projector/dp/B000TXNS6G

http://www.vogels.com/vpc-545-projector-ceiling-mount.html#.VKD7dl4AKA

When not in use, I could easily disconnect the projector.

Or what about something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7Umo_4DPQc

Look at 00:58. Easily removable.

That's just part one obviously because I need the projector to be lowered when in use...

What if I built/purchased some sort of adjustable pole that went into the ceiling, and attached the mount to this pole? There doesn't seem to be a mount that is easily detachable + adjustable.

------------------------------------------------

All that being said, I'm open to new options, if they'll fit my needs. My fear with going with a projector that isn't short throw and mounting it on say, the back wall of my room, is I don't think I'd be able to sit as close to the screen as I would want, because the projected image would... hit me, wouldn't it? It would have to be 20 inches from the ceiling to start with to clear the fan, but the projected light would also have to clear me in my chair, which reaches 47 inches from the floor. To create a 100 inch image, I don't know if it could fit in that small a window. I opted for short throw so I could sit right under it basically, and sit fairly close. I know sitting close is not recommended and maybe I'll scoot back a few more feet but, I like sitting close, like within 6 feet. This is my bedroom.

I don't want to put it on a table just because I would hate seeing it when I'm watching a movie, I would rather it be out of sight.

But I really think one of those detachable mounts+a home made adjustable pole could work in theory. Yes I'll lose my fan while watching movies but at least I'll have it when I'm not.
