Not sure if I'm late, WoL for $20 on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/StarCraft-II-Wings-Liberty-PC/dp/B000ZKA0J6
HotS is also $20 on u.s. amazon, with 2 dollars tax ($5 shipping, but can qualify for free shipping)
You can qualify for free shipping on orders of $35 or more, which can be done by buying both HotS and WoL totaling around 40 dollars plus tax
Consider playing SC2 for free through "spawning" (partying up with friends who already have HotS) [Downsides: No 1v1, terran-only, and miss out on campaign]
I don't recommend waiting for HotS on Microsoft Store which is on sale for $5, but currently out of stock. Microsoft Store might take a really long time to restock so I wouldn't bet on it, but just in case:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store?Action=pdp&ClickID=dboyztckyo0to2wkb02ostkwcwhwkwmrzhhx&Locale=en_US&SiteID=msusa&Starcraft-II-Heart-of-the-Swarm-PC-Game=&productID=260620400
A former pro player, Liquid Jinro, made a blog post saying SC2 has the best it has ever been, I hope you have fun with SC2!
TL forum post: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=278995
>The long-awaited expansion pack for StarCraft II is now available to pre-order. Heart of the Swarm continues the epic saga as something happens to Kerrigan and Jim Raynor acts emo about it (I think).
>
>If you'd like to help support TL, you can order Heart of the Swarm through our Amazon referral link. Assuming this is the same as Wings of Liberty, you will receive the game the same day it is released for digital download (last time it was shipped early to ensure it arrives on time - don't worry!) and TL will receive a small commission which will be used to help keep the site running.
>
>Note: This is for the physical copy of the game only. That means that you will have to wait until the game is delivered to you by mail (usually the same day as it's released). Similar to a digital purchase, you will be able to use the CD Key to download the game from Bnet or install from the DVD if you wish. If you are willing to wait a few hours for the mail to arrive, we'd really appreciate the referral.
edit: added amazon referral link to quote
This is a strange, but related question:
I need better headphones for gaming. I settled on getting these after basically taking a straight recommendation from a friend
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012XFDWO
The problem is that the reviews suggest that I need a sound card with amplifier in order for them to work? I'm not sure I understand. I am of reasonable technical skill, but I'm not sure I'm understanding what I need exactly. Particularly this review and the comments on it are somewhat troubling. They've essentially left me thinking that I need to get a new sound card (currently using onboard sound on an ASUS P6X58D Premium) but I'm not sure exactly what specification the new card would require. I'm just leaving this here as a means of passively collecting research if anyone else understands this topic better. I'll be a few tabs to the right in my browser doing more research on my own, so don't hassle me with the "LOOK IT UP, RETARD" if you don't mind. I'm trying.
Anyway, I appreciate it.
I've been enjoying your casts lately, also, TB. You help to fill my Saturdays in particular. I enjoy having a nice ladder on one monitor while I watch some tournaments on the other. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to hear how some crazy baller casting equipment helps things sound :)
Logitech G-400
Razer Deathadder
Steelseries Sensei
All of these are excellent mice, which one you want really comes down to personal preference. I like the deathadder, but I know other people who are more comfortable with the logitech design.
You also might want to take into consider a nice mouse surface if you don't already have one. I can tell you that the steelseries 9HD is pretty awesome if you're into hard pads.
I use Plantronics Gamecom 367, they're nothing fancy, but they get the job done. I've worn them for hours at a time with no real discomfort, the sound is quite clear and the mic pick up is really surprisingly good. And they're a whopping $25 on amazon.
Edit: I've had them for over a year now. However, I don't know that they're super sturdy, a friend of my mine managed to crack to upper part, but he just taped them up and they're fine.
If you catch Deathadder at the right time, I've seen it being sold on Newegg at a discount in their weekly promos for ~$55 three times now.
http://www.amazon.com/Razer-DeathAdder-Essential-Ergonomic-RZ01-00840100-R3U1/dp/B00AAS888S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372086093&sr=8-1&keywords=DeathAdder Closest thing to ~$55 (doesn't include taxes though). Still cheaper than a Sensei. I'd say its priced pretty good. Also on a comparable price with a Logitech G400.
Definitely agreed with you being comfortable. Especially with the 2013 edition, the addition of the grips aaaaaaaah makes computing experience that much better.
Thanks for the recommendation, it sounds like an interesting book so I'll likely pick it up. Allow me to make a recommendation of my own: The Art of Learning by Josh Waitzkin.
Young chess master becomes disillusioned and turns to Tai Chi, which leads him into transferring his competitive spirit into Tai Chi push hands, where he becomes the world champion. Eventually he switches again, this time over to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Along the way he learns a lot about the nature of performance and how to learn efficiently to a master level in different disciplines.
You can get it slightly cheaper on amazon.com (after shipping). It's 61.99 on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZJ1VD8) and if you want to get it a bit faster, you can sign up for the free trial of amazon prime (30 days) and get free 2 day shipping.
Just be sure to cancel the amazon prime membership within the month if you don't want to pay the yearly fee to have free 2 day shipping.
I use a RazerDeathadder, purchased from Amazon for $46 (free shipping!). I would highly, highly recommend it. It's ridiculously accurate and customizable, very comfortable. Easily the best mouse I've ever used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Q4U5DK/ref=oss_product
I bought a filco ninja last week ( http://www.amazon.com/Filco-Majestouch-2-Tenkeyless-FKBN87M-EFB2/dp/B004ZJPSGI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312137313&sr=8-2 ) and it's pretty pretty awesome. It is my first mechanical keyboard (after using my old keyboard for 10 years) so I don't have much knowledge on how it "feels" in comparison.
I recently bought a razer blackwidow and am love with it. It's a definite improvement over my old G11 for typing and gaming. It's probably one of my favorite pc-related purchases. The only downside is you can barely talk over the thing.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001NTFATI?pc_redir=1404189027&robot_redir=1
Found this, amazon seems to have some limited stock left but quite pricey.
You could try the Logitech g300, I've used this one a bit but it has too many buttons for my liking. Might be a positive for you though.
what prize range are we talking? this is a VERY sexy mouse and doesn't cost too much.
If you're looking for a small, compact, mechanical, minimal, and clean keyboard, then this is for you: Filco Ninja Majestouch Tenkeyless Black
It is what I have and comes with brown switches. It's got a nice matte finish so it won't pick up prints like the das keyboards. In addition, because it's tenkeyless, it doesn't have the num pad so your mouse is closer to your keyboard. Also, it has no macro keys to distract your fingers like the Razer BlackWidow. Just what you're looking for in your description. Might I add, Filcos are built like a rock.
I use and love this one. Light and comfortable. I didn't want anything too fancy http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Deathadder-Precision-Infrared-RZ01-00151400-R3/dp/B002Q4U5DK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1320799005&sr=1-1
Gaming mouse doesn't mean RTS mouse. RTS mice usually have just 5 buttons and that's only because the forward and back buttons aren't intrusive. Hell Flash used this for the longest time. Not exactly a "gaming" mouse but worked for the best BW player ever.
My picture doesn't do it justice, the monitor is beautiful

My mic is a blue yeti
Mouse is a g400
Keyboard is a Mega G1
Girlfriend got the mousepad at a barcraft. No idea what it is, but it is the best mousepad i've ever used
Cheapest for HotS:

Or for 14p more if you prefer Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00A6OP29E/soundsvault-21
I've used Simply Games loads though and never had any problems. Really fast free delivery too
No one seems to be selling WoL. Amazon cheapest it looks like:

Source: http://www.gamestracker.com/
it's not $40, but the G9X Logitech is pretty reasonably priced for being such a beast. amazon has it at $63 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Programmable-Laser-Gaming-Precision/dp/B001NTFATI
This is true in many disciplines. Josh Waitzkin also talked about this in his book the art of learning. In both his chess carreer as his tai chi carreer, the time off he took, was very much a key factor in his success. Being able to empty your mind, and balance out your head. While competitors where pushed hard by their parents, his dad took him fishing out in the sea the week before a tournament, so he would feel refreshed and focussed when he returned.
A must read for everyone trying to master a skills, wether it is sc2, chess, martial arts, or anything else. (was also recommended by day9)

Any mid-range Logitech gaming mouse would work great. I use the Logitech G400, which is $37.89 on Amazon. It has a very normal, rounded shape, it's medium-sized, light, multiple dpi settings up to 3600, and has 8 programmable buttons.
I really like my Logitech G9x. Easy to customize and comes with two mouse grips.

Digital downloads are always more expensive. However if you buy the cd then download the game with the key, its the same thing, you don't need to have the disk to play.
http://www.amazon.com/Starcraft-II-Wings-Liberty-Pc/dp/B000ZKA0J6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332966636&sr=8-1
I got my copy at amazon for like $45 this summer.
Seriously, this or this.
In my opinion, probably best headset for price. Plus it's on sale!
Or you can buy it on Amazon and add to r/SC's prize pools.
Amazon Canada
Amazon UK
Almost all mechanical switches have an actuation distance of 2mm and a bottom-out distance of 4mm. The lowest actuation force types commonly found in mechanical keyboards are those with Cherry MX Brown switches. I use a filco majestrouch tenkeyless and I'm extremely happy with it. Other popular brown-switch keyboards include the leopold tenkeyless (slightly cheaper) and das "silent" models (also highly recommended). One quick point is that brown-switches are not truly silent. They don't have a built in click like blue-switches, but they still make noise when they key is bottomed out or generally tapped quickly.
Target has it around $52
Amazon has some decent deals and retails at $50:Amazon
Finding it under $50 is still pretty tough at the moment and will most likely have to be from a person selling their own copy.
why are you buying from blizzard? if you spend a few minutes looking around you will find better deals.

Very real, and very pricey, I have seen it sold in a shop here in Austin, TX
Just FYI, you can usually get a copy for $30-$40 on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Starcraft-II-Wings-Liberty-Pc/dp/B000ZKA0J6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335541302&sr=8-1
Startale uses the Zowie MiCO, which is pretty much an exact copy of the Logitech Mini Optical Mouse, which is what all KR BW players used.
http://www.amazon.com/Starcraft-II-Wings-Liberty-Pc/dp/B000ZKA0J6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318903740&sr=8-1
Save $10, so there's that.
Plantronics Gamecom headset: http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-Closed-Ear-Gaming-Headset/dp/B001E45XT4
Cheap+good. :) There's some variants on the shape of the ear pads, so search around a bit.
It is only £12.85 and £10.00 for Hots
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Starcraft-II-Wings-Liberty-DVD-ROM/dp/B000RE216U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414162406&sr=8-1&keywords=starcraft+II
I doubt it gets a lot cheaper.
maybe you can safe a bid by buying keys somewhere like: http://www.planetkey.de/starcraft-ii-key-kaufen-und-download.html (german)
If you can't figure out how to buy it and gift it digitally, you can always do it the old fashioned way (it's $10 off on amazon).
https://www.amazon.com/Starcraft-II-Battle-Chest-PC-Mac/dp/B00PV2S6EE
Battlechest also available for $19.99
Edit: tagged post as spoiler to indicate at the linked deal is unavailable. Thanks guys.
What is your budget? A mouse pad isn't nearly as important, and you can probably use the one you have now. The Razer DeathAdder is $42 on Amazon. Is that still too much?
A lot of others suggest the Logitech g400, which is around $36 on Amazon.
I have the Razer Deathadder and I like it very much.
http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-6Gv2-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B0038X3ZVM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1304129459&sr=8-2

45$ for both and both really solid...will serve you well for a long time.
Here's the Battle Chest for only 20 euros as well.
Edit: hmmm, in "contents" tab it only lists WoL and HotS, I guess this one is older battlechest without LotV?
You can buy one here: http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-6Gv2-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B0038X3ZVM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1312920159&sr=1-1
I payed an extra $20 and got it in two days. For what is worth, I really like this keyboard, but it is the only mechanical keyboard I know...
The cost is justified by the expensive mechanical switches in the style of IBM's old Model M. Using mechanical switches instead of rubber domes gives a completely different tactile response, for which keyboard fanatics are willing to pay a premium. The more reasonably priced mechanical keyboards start at around $100.
In the U.S. the cheapest I can find it for is $50:
Amazon.com
Newegg.com
You may want to try google shopping to see if it is sold cheaper somewhere locally?

I use the 6gv2.. Amazing keyboard, but I need some Cherry Blues because I'm going back to college and will be typing a lot. Meh, who knows. But ya, $99 everywhere it seems.
And I can still get it on amazon for £2 cheaper.

I'd go with the Blackwidow. Since you're from Canada, there's a sale on BlackWidow on amazon.ca for only $50. I just ordered one for myself :D

this is the mouse i use, http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Optical-Gaming-High-Precision-910-002277/dp/B0055QZ216/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1343236182&sr=8-4&keywords=gaming+mouse . i am not sure if that's the type of grip you want but, this mouse when you download the logitech drivers you change the dpi to anything between 0-3600. This mouse also has 5 extra butttons (besides the 3 standard) for your needs, and is also very in expensive.

Keyboard Mouse Mousemat Hotkeys are basically default with base camera set to spacebar.
I too was extremely disappointed with the Razer Deathadder's soft mushy clicking coming from the legendary Logitech MX518 that lasted me at 6 years (unlike my shitty deathadder of 1 year).
If you like the Deathadders weight and size, then look into the MX518, or the newer versions of it such as the G400s. Ihaven't tried the g400S, but if it's clicking feel is anything like it's predecessors then it should be good.
