You're going to get the same answer everyone else does when they ask this: there isn't one. In the sense that for the price you'd pay for a "good gaming headset" you'd get a good midrange set of headphones from a reputable, quality manufacturer like Audio Technica, Beyerdynamic or the like. These will outperform any "gaming" headset whilst being built better and usually more comfortable, and when coupled with a cheap Zalman clip-on mic or similar, will have all the same features.

It depends on your budget, mainly. Some people are going to recommend the Logitech G35s and others are going to tell you that you'd be a moron to ever consider buying them when you could get a pair of ATH-AD700s for less and get better sound quality and so on.

I think the general consensus is that "gaming" peripherals are a bad investment - "gaming" headsets are just cheap headphones with some blue LEDs and a brand name slapped on them. "Gaming" keyboards are going to cost more than some cherry-switch Filco or Ducky keyboards and be less pleasant and responsive to use. So on.

u/RagingBeard · 21 pointsr/pcgaming

I use headphones for multiple reasons:

  • Sound quality for the price

  • Privacy

  • Late night noise complaints (lake thereof)

  • Dampen ambient noise

  • Space

  • Surround cues

  • Portable

  • Avoid annoying/interrupting people on VOIP with media sound

If you want a few suggestions for headphones there are the

Audio Technica ATH-M50s which are closed studio headphones that are highly recommended across the board.

    Also the Audio Technica ATH-AD700s

If you plan on gaming and using Skype/VOIP then you may want to consider a modmic to attach to the headphones.

You could go with a headset like the Logitech G35 if you would like 7.1 surround and a mic built in.

Logitech G19s Gaming Keyboard with Color Game Panel Screen $99.99 ($199.99 - $100.00)

edit: Are there any of these that I would have to be put to death for not ordering? :D I have this hole in my pocket you see...

edit2: swapped ending price and discount on G710+ - would have been a much better deal though...

edit3: prices are beginning to rise back to normal/sell out. Sad days.

edit4: Amazon is apparently going to try to get re-stocking done throughout the day to allow more purchases at the sale price. If it's out of stock when you look the first time, check again in a while. I'll try to keep this list up-to-date as best I can.

edit5: Even better, for me anyway. Looks as if if they are going to stop re-stocking the items, they are completely removing the item from the page I linked. If you see a strike-throughd item above, it WAS here, now it's gone Johnson. Again, will update as I can.

edit6: Nope. Bastards are re-adding items to the page... grumble grumble... :D

edit7: I decided to dig a little bit, and turns out, if you follow my links in this post rather than only relying on just the deal page itself, they are updated more frequently and accurately. So, use these links in conjunction to the thread title, and you may very well benefit! Still updating, sleepy times soon though... Maybe...

edit8: That's all, she wrote! Some of the items prices are retaining their sale value as of this last edit, so, maybe it'll be a new list price for them, who knows, but I am marking the sale as over, since the link is now officially pointed into oblivion.. Thanks for the wonderful day of sales and discussions, and for those of you who got some new equipment, congratulations! Hope you enjoy them!

AKG-702's typically as they are fucking awesome, although as a gamer I also have a pair of Logitech G35 headphones which I used to use which aren't as bad as you might expect.

I also have some Klipsch Image S2's which I like for work where I can't have sound blasting around

I use my Sennheiser HD650 every day at my desk for nearly a year, they're practically as good as new. But they pretty much stay in only two places (on my head or on this

In any case, if I had to go with a gaming headset, it would probably be the Logitech G35

u/Randomguy2111 · 7 pointsr/gaming

Instead of the Razer Megalodon, you could always get the Logitech G35. It also has 7.1 surround and is also rather comfortable. And it's about 37ish dollars cheaper.

And I just found out it has a voice changer...

I have had a set of Logitech G35 headphones for about a year now. I use them primarily for gaming, music, and movies when I don't want to disturb others in the house. They sound great, have an integrated mic, 3 programmable buttons, mute button, and volume wheel. These are some of the best headphones I've used and they are very well made, including heavy-duty shielding on the extra long cable.

Do you already have a mousepad/mat? I have the SteelSeries Experience i-2 glass/ceramic mousepad, and I absolutely love it. As for headsets, I have the Logitech G930, and while it's outside the 100 USD price range for you, I can vouch for the quality of Logitech, and the G35 is available on Amazon for about 100 bucks.

(as a side note, why are half the posts on gamingpc at zero or negative karma? do we have haters?)

He probably means the G35.

I would actually recommend you avoid headsets, as they are not particularily good at anything. alexistukov's recommendation is [almost] mine as well.

Logitech G-35.

7.1 surround will let him pinpoint where the enemy is and turn and fire accurately. Great sound and the mic is good.

u/Efflux · 3 pointsr/gaming

If you want a nice USB surround sound one, get this one Logitech G35. I personally vouch for it, others do as well.

If you want one with a 3.5 mm headphone jack, these are nice Steel Series Siberia.

A lot of people will tell you to go with a non-gamer headphone and a clip mic. As you get a bit more bang for your buck.

This is all according to preference though. My preference is in the order I listed, the surround sound is quite impressive. Hope this helps.

Stand up mics are less ideal. they pick up outside noise, especially if you have a TV or music playing in the back ground.
having the mic next to your mouth really improves the fidelity.

As for the laptop, I would rather you get the best information you can get, and in all honesty I am not exactly an expert with laptops and pc parts. For that I will direct you to one of the PC-related subreddits that we are partnered with on the sidebar, /r/gamingpc is probably a good place to start :)

As for the headset, I can definitely give you a confident answer in that field. I see that you are referring to your prices in euros, and I am not sure which country you are from or the availability of certain headsets in your country, so I'll find a couple suggestions for you.

Firstly, HyperX Butt Gaming Headset, $80 or roughly 73 euros. I hear amazing things about HyperX headsets and I always recommend these as a very good mix of quality and affordability as their sound quality is far far better than the price would suggest.

The second is the Logitech G35 which is $75 on amazon which is ~40% off. It has 7.1 surround sound and solid reviews.

If these don't work for you let me know and I'll find more!

u/conatus_or_coitus · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Taken from RFD, according to LightningDrops it's the lowest price ever.

This is the #1 selling headset on Amazon.com, pretty great price. Logitech make quality products and ridiculously good customer service. Can't recommend more if you're in the market for a headset for gaming etc. anywhere near this price point.

u/Xilcon13 · 2 pointsr/gadgets

The Logitech G35 headset is marked down to $80 on Amazon right now. These are comfortable (if a little bulky) and lasted me for about 2 years which is when the poly-vinyl on the earpieces started peeling off. The headphones still work though, and admittedly I could probably just fix them myself.

I'm currently using the Steelseries Siberia V2 and the are pretty good and marked down to $70 but a word of warning; if you consider these headphones, know that they are a little uncomfortable at first and also be sure to test the mic asap to ensure it works as the mine doesn't (good thing I never use that thing anyway lol).

If you want to spend a little more, logitech makes a very high rated 7.1 surround sound gaming headset. It has drivers for front and back, in addition to the sides. It's USB, so you don't have to buy a 7.1 sound card.

However, you can't plug it into a ipod or other portable devices.

Dont get the v3s ive owned 2 pairs and a pair of each version before them and always regret it. The v3s had many issues where the left earcup would either be significantly fainter than the right earcup or did not work at all, the only ones that i found good were the v1's id reccomend a good logitech headset or a audiotechnica one if you want to spend a bit more. If you want to get a logitech headset i highly reccomend this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001O5CCQK/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687462&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003VANOFY&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0XECEX46JEW60YQHRY4R

u/minerlj · 1 pointr/science

I own TWO of these bad boys. They have amazing 7.1 3D sound. It actually gives me an advantage in FPS games too.

u/KD360 · 1 pointr/darksouls

Hmm, if budget is a problem I would say either a gaming headsett which can come from anything from 70 to 100$ like the Logitech G35 or Turtle beach Earforce PX21 for 50-95$. If you're just looking for a good microphone I would say look at a microphone like SINN 7 Podcast microphone, which you can get for about 70-80$. These are just amazon prises, so i believe that you can get it cheaper somewhere from a local store, if not a online store in you're region. Getting the high quality sound would require a 60$+ Headset or microphone.

The SINN 7 Podcast microphone Is a really good microphone which I recommend you get if you plan on doing allot of these lore videos or something similar in the long run. As it is a cardioid microphone which is excellent for recording speeches/vocal, if you do get one of these I would also recommend you buy pop filter too, or just make one yourself, not that hard.

You have a really soothing voice, which is relaxing to listen to. So I recommend the SINN 7 or a microphone similar following the cardioid for recording vocals, as it can filter out allot of background noises.

u/WorkThrowaway91 · 1 pointr/GlobalOffensive

How cheap are you looking for? I've had great success using the Logitech G35, because it has a nice secure feel over your ears, provides high quality directional sound despite CSGOs oddities. I mean there are definitely cheaper and more expensive options out there.

u/Soundchok · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Here

1: Benefits of Audio Jack: Mostly used on "audiophile" grated headsets which are not tuned for gaming, benefits of that is that you can run an external amp or dac ( or a combo of the two)

Benefits of USB headset: Soundcard driver is directly in the headset which means that custom software (in this instance made by logitech) allows you to equalize your sound to your prefered needs. This also ensures that you get extra features like Automute when putting the the boom mic up, and macro keys. which is not possible on Mini Jack.

2) Logitech G35 headsat have noise cancelation on the microphone (there is one mic for your mouth, and one for ambient noise, which it then removes as good as it can from teamspeak and so on)

3) Most people prefer Over the ear because if the headset is not "soft enough" you can get strains on your ears with the on ears, downside to over ear closed back headsets made of pleather in this instance is that they get hot on your ears after a few hours

hope this helped

u/kevindqc · 1 pointr/montreal

>I am investing in a pair of those really nice headphones with the mic though (any recommendations?)

It's generally recommended to purchase a decent set of headphones such as the Sennheiser HD555s paired with a clip-on mic. Although, if you insist on going the headset route, the Logitech G35 is what I use, and it's pretty great, albeit a bit heavyset. Another oft-recommended headset is the Steelseries Sibera.

Budget: $50 perfably under $40

Source: Gaming. Looking for something sturdier than "gaming" headphones. Want something I can here enemy's foot steps with. I'm looking for a headset that can fit over my ear and use for hours without getting uncomfortable.

Requirements for Isolation: My area isn't so loud, but the fans on my computer can be distracting. I'm not sure if this warrens a closed back.

Preferred Type: Over Ear. I have been using a smaller headset since mines broke and it's super uncomfortable for me to wear. My previous headset was the G35 and fit comfortably around my ears.

Preferred tonal balance: Honestly I don't know. I do voice chat sometimes, so whichever is better for gaming/voice chatting.

Past headphones: G35 (Which broke a year later)

Preferred Music: EDM

Other: My last two headsets were "Gaming headset" and broke in under a year. I'm looking for headset that aren't as cheep, but still fits comfortably on my head and great for games.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Would like a few recordings? As in like, one in a silent room, one with a conversation going, one of a possible EVP? Anything in particular you want?

If you don't mind, what kind of setup do you have? I have just been using my PC with Audacity and these SteelSeries head phones. I used to have a Logitech G35 headset, but the speakers went out. Neither of those are ideal for listening to EVPs I reckon.

It has pretty good battery (like 10 hours) and it takes like 2-3 hours to fully charge.

u/throwaway12junk · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If I may, I'd like to offer a counter statement. Full disclosure, I don't like Razer, but I'm wiling to give them some leniency.

Don't get 7.1 headphones because it's not actually physical 7.1, everything is on the software side. For that reason, you should be able to mimic similar sound with the correct software. and a quality stero headset.

I'd recomend buying a Kingston HyperX Cloud, which currently is $10 cheaper than the Logitech G35 on Amazon.

Then download a copy of the Razer Surround Software. It should be able to mimic virtual 7.1 on any headphones. I don't own a headset with build-in 7.1 drivers but I think it's alright.

Long story short, you can save $10, and still get some kickass hardware and virtual sound.

u/theLJam · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Logitech G35 is good, relatively cheap and lasts long.

u/ChaoQueen · 1 pointr/GirlGamers

I used these before I upgraded to a Snowball mic and noise cancelling headphones.

u/iski4free · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I bought these a few months back and have been very pleased. I was originally using a cheaper Turtle Beach headset so it was definately an upgrade. As with anything, you can spend more money to get a better set, but these are great if you can buy them on sale.

I used to listen to music with these while cleaning my apartment and found the wireless range to be ~40 feet (12m).

Personally, I find these headphones very comfortable and can keep them on for extended periods of time.

Quality is comparable to the Logitech G35 headset, which you can get on sale for $75 now. (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-7-1-Channel-Surround-Sound-Headset/dp/B001O5CCQK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413812403&sr=8-1&keywords=Logitech+G35) However, you pay extra for the wireless feature.

Finally, the battery life on my set lasts ~8-10 hours of continuous use before I have to plug them in again. The battery is noticeably longer than the one in my Logitech G700s mouse.

Good luck with your purchase!

u/supremetoaster · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Talking about the Logitech G35.

u/theredbaron1834 · 1 pointr/AskTechnology

It really isn't that hard to attempt, depending on your laptop of course.

You would just remove a few screws, take the case off, and then hold a heat gun to it for a bit, till the solder melts (trying to keep the hot air away from everything else of course).

However, if you have never done anything of the sort before, I would just buy a usb sound card / headphones.

Here is a REALLY cheap one, with free shipping. Not the best, and the "7.1" is virtual, but it will do stereo fine. This is quite a bit better, with real surround sound 5.1 support, for pretty cheap still (if you get a usb sound card, I would get this one).

You can also get this as a cheap usb headset. Logitech is a good brand, so they could be pretty good headphones. For a bit more, you can get this one which has 5.1 surround sound, force feedback (awesome for games), ect. Also Arctic is a good brand, though with coolers stuff. However, if you have the money, I would get this. It is 7.1 surround sound, and Logitech. But ALOT of money.

I don't known what OS you use, but all of them should work with Windows. I also know that the second usb sound card works on linux, and the rest should work too, as ever random usb sound stuff I hooked up just worked (and Linux just rules with stuff like this). However, if you use OSX, that I don't know. Might be best to get one that specifically supports OSX.

Corsair H1500 sounds like what you're looking for, as far as value to money scale goes.

There are better headsets for more money, and there are better headsets without mics for the same, but the all-around balance for something under $70 that will do the job is most likely this one.

I like the Logitech G35.

u/Namaztak · 1 pointr/gaming

I've been using this headset (Logitech G35) for a while now.

Sturdy, clear sounding as far as I know, and surround sounds great in-game. The mute button, the volume control and the media controls are all nice and on your head, so you don't have to fumble around with your wire any time you want to mute yourself or change a song.

The only issue with the media control buttons is that they can't be rebound to more useful things.

If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, and don't mind going analog, as opposed to USB, I use these headphones (Razer Orca) for listening to music, and I've seen this clip-on mic recommended in other threads.

Used in conjunction, those two are supposedly crazy good for the money.

No problem at all. Glad I could help!

Just a heads up: The G35 is on sale on Amazon for $92 and the G930 is on sale for $100. For the couple dollar difference, I would suggest the G930, but the decision is totally yours. It DOES look like the G930 has a sturdier build, but the G35looks sleeker.

The only Thermaltake keyboard I've had personal experience with was very low quality in both build and use satisfaction, it wound up having connection issues within a year.

As long as the PSU is decent quality it'll have no issue putting out the required power, I've got a modular 750W from Corsair that's been going just fine for four years.

This is the headset I have right now, its pretty low cost and I don't have any gripes with it.

I did look at this and this. If the G930 is better than the CAL I'll get that. But, what do you think?

No response yesterday so I'll try again...

  • Budget: The lowest I want to pay is $60, the max I want to pay is $125. I have a $40 pre-paid VISA that will help bring this down to me paying $85 max.

  • Source: My laptop. I do NOT have a dedicated soundcard, so I NEED this headset to have a USB soundcard. MUST have a built-in mic.

  • Requirements for Isolation: Using only in the comfort of my home. Does not matter ultimately.

  • Preferred Type of Headphone: Prefer Full-sized, On Ear is good too if the sound quality and longevity is worth it.

  • Preferred Tonal Balance: Strong Bass would be awesome, but needs to have good highs too. If it can surpass Plantronics GameCom 780, I want it.

  • Past Headphones:
    • Plantronics GameCom 780 - if the new pair you recommend is better than these in terms of build quality, longevity, bass and overall sound quality, and less than $125 before I apply my $40 pre-paid VISA, PLEASE list it here!
    • Bose OE - I still use this when I'm on the go. Not nearly as good as my Plantronics in my opinion.

  • Preferred music: I listen to about 50% Rap/Hip-Hop, stuff that brings out the bass. 25% Alternative and Indie Rock, 25% Eletronic (ex: Daft Punk)

  • Additional Information: I'm looking for a comfortable headset + built-in mic combo to replace my Plantronics GameCom 780 that recently broke after one year. I know that buying a headphone and mic separately is the best option but I do not have a dedicated soundcard in my laptop. I used my headset for gaming and communication in League of Legends with friends and for music on my laptop. Best $50 I've spent on a headset and I'm happy it lasted this long (obviously would have preferred longer). So, I've been researching for a week on what headset to purchase next, and stepping up my budget slightly. Here is what I've narrowed down to:

  • Plantronics GameCom Commander, $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826265264

  • Sennheiser PC 330, $125 (don't see USB soundcard on these however)
    http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-504121-330-GAME-Headset/dp/B003DA4D34/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

  • Corsair Vengeance 1500 v2, $65 http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Dolby-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00EXPNFQO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1406326162&sr=1-1&keywords=corsair+vengeance+]1500

  • Logitech G35, $95 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-7-1-Channel-Surround-Sound-Headset/dp/B001O5CCQK/ref=pd_cp_e_3]

Please feel free to suggest anything else

So, I'm deciding between two headphones for Counter Strike.

I am looking for something STRICTLY good for pointing out exactly where people are around me. Nothing else.

Seriously, this or this.

In my opinion, probably best headset for price. Plus it's on sale!

I already have Sennheiser HD 280 Pros. I love them, I was looking at this. http://www.amazon.ca/Logitech-7-1-Channel-Surround-Sound-Headset/dp/B001O5CCQK

DO NOT get any "gaming" labeled headset. You will only pay more for something of equal or crappier quality. They usually don't last and will not necessarily give you a more immersive experience. Get this and save yourself the extra $100 for games. I personally have tried out this headset, and I can tell you it is a beast, you can hear helicopters flying above you, and enemies trying to knife you from behind (huge advantage for FPS's). It is also great for music since it has a built-in soundcard. Good luck reaching gaming nirvana bro!
