I bought a separate hammer loop that has two loops connected with really thick heavy nylon that has two pencil holders in it and another small loop that I keep one of those prybars shaped like a big flathead screwdriver in. It gives me extra places for holding my pencil, nail set, and prybar and keeps my hammer from swinging around everywhere.
You didn’t ask about this, but I cut a small notch in the screwdriver/prybar thing big enough for brad nails to squeeze into so I can hit the back of it with my hammer to break the brad. It’s useful for me since I do mostly trim work.
