I personally prefer the griplock style jaws. if i was only buying one set it would be these. but tbh I kindof hate the groovelock style adjustment after using the button lock type. you don't have to spend knipex money to get this style as irwin "groovelock" pliers are decent quality and have the button lock. I own the knipex cobras, the irwins, and the channelocks and would rate them in that order just because I like the button lock more than the groove lock adjustment(to be fair the channelock brand is much higher quality steel than the irwins and will last longer). one other thing to consider is the Craftsman 9-45433 pliers set as they are just re-branded knipex cobras and I have seen them on sale b4 for about $30 (cammelcammelcammel shows they were $27.61 in may of 2017 on amazon)

I can't comment on those, but I have some very similar Irwin pliers that only cost a few dollars more and they are excellent!

A 2' Rigid aluminum pipe wrench should do the trick. I've never seen mine lose a fight against 1/2" brass.

You could probably get away with a 10" or something, but that doesn't sound like nearly as much fun. Or the cheaper version of knipex

Also, counterclockwise to loosen. And hitting the threads with some wd-40 cant hurt.
