I have an S6 and never had the S5 so I don't know how long it would take to charge an S5 wirelessly. The S5 has a bigger battery so I'm assuming it will take longer than mine. I haven't really timed my charger, but I would estimate that it would take 1.5-2 hours to charge to full. I use it at night, so it's not really an issue. It'll probably charge your phone at the same rate as if you were to use a 1A usb charger.

This is the kind that you would want to get: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-EP-PG920IBUGUS-Wireless-Charging-Charger/dp/B00UCZGS6S/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1451801626&sr=1-4&keywords=samsung+wireless+charger

This one is newer and will charge the Note 5 and S6 edge+ faster, but it does work for every Qi enabled phone at the regular rate: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Fast-Charge-Wireless-Charging/dp/B012AWBN9C/ref=sr_1_7?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1451801626&sr=1-7&keywords=samsung+wireless+charger

The wireless charger is really used for the convenience and not the speed. I had this charger before I got the Samsung one. The Samsung one is a lot better in my opinion because it has a light that tells you the state of the charge (full/charging). The Samsung one also has a larger charging area so you don't have to set it down exactly perfect for it to charge. The other one has a smaller charging surface so you have to set it exactly in the middle or it won't charge.

Can I use the flat S7 charger from a few years ago with the S9 safely? It seems like it charges as fast as my new Samsung fast charger I just got. which is bizzare. Any thoughts?

u/judith68 · 2 pointsr/galaxynote5

I don't think that's the fast charger though I just ordered this one Samsung Fast Charge Qi Wireless Charging Pad - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012AWBN9C/ref=cm_sw_r_em_awd_X8SAwbDTZZRJM

For fast wireless charging, you need a fast wireless charger and a fast charge AC adapter (like the one that came with your Note 5).

I tried a bunch of them:

Samsung's version has a built in fan. Keeps your phone nice and cool. A bit placement sensitive.

Choetech single coil. Cheap. Works well. A bit placement sensitive.

Choetech 3 coil. Works well. Not placement sensitive. My favorite so far.

Samsung's flat black round one. They tend to be cheap too. Let me find a link.

International doesn't come with a power bank and the us version is like 46 bucks from amazon

Actually 56.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Fast-Charge-Wireless-Charging/dp/B012AWBN9C

So two for 56 is a good deal. If you don't want imitation shit. But show me that authentic sealed is retail version of the Samsung quick charge power bank in black with the adaptive charger for 26 bucks sold by a verifiable non cointerfiet vendor and by all means I'll retract.my statement.

In fact the CHEAPEST new one listed by any vendor.on Amazon is 48.

I have a wireless charger like that Anker one I can't use it to charge my RP2 at all due to coil placement in the RP2.

The flat Samsung Qi Chargers [https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Certified-Charge-Wireless-Charger/dp/B012AWBN9C/ref=sr_1_4?crid=JH9AVNWXW7T8] however work perfectly fine through the Tudia Merge case as long I place the RP2 correctly.

I have one of those Choetech Qi chargers when I had the N5. It worked fine to charge that phone while using BT and GPS. With the N6, a 4hr commute would drain 30%. I purchased the Aukey dual port charger, where one port has the quick charge and I have the other port plugged into my Qi windshield mount. Honestly, I RARELY ever use the windshield mount unless I am using GPS, which is once every few months. I plug the phone in more than anything because Qi charging is slow.

This one may work. I have yet to buy it..

I bought 2 from Amazon (2 weeks ago they were $10 off and prime) and i got the fast charging cables with them.

No, that's not really a great deal.

I can get all those on Amazon for much cheaper:

Samsung Fast Wireless Charger: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012AWBN9C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_3&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Aukey QuickCharge 2.0 Car Charger: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LJT2EPK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=A1KWJVS57NX03I

Anker 10,000 mAh Battery Pack: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009USAJCC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A294P4X9EWVXLJ

Aukey 10,400 mAh Battery Pack with QuickCharge 2.0: http://www.amazon.com/10400mAh-Portable-External-Battery-Qualcomm/dp/B00UBDI7EC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457454657&sr=8-1&keywords=quick+charge+2.0+battery+pack

Grand total: $82.98 $80.98 with free 2-day shipping.

And that's if you don't get more affordable options like the Choetech wireless charger for $30 or a myriad of cheaper battery packs. I, however, specifically listed brands that can 100% be trusted.

Apparently my comment was removed because I "used an URL shortener" (which I didn't). Try #2.

This one is not quick.
I know these two that I would trust and that do support quick wireless charging:

Samsung's own Quick Wireless Charger: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Charge-Wireless-Charging-Galaxy/dp/B012AWBN9C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1456809753&sr=8-2&keywords=quick+wireless+charging

Choetech's Fast Wireless Charger: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Charging-Charger-Qualcomm-Qi-Enabled/dp/B015O4EZI4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1456809753&sr=8-4&keywords=quick+wireless+charging

Keep in mind that you need a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0-approved power brick and a good enough cable for quick wireless charging to work. Samsung's Adaptative Fast Charger works too.

I'm new to wireless charging, is there any benefit to the stand over the "puck" style?

You can get that one for $37 right now.

The item you linked is not the fast charge version, that's this one. Depending on your use case you may not want fast charging. For example, I have a pad style charger like this by my bed and the phone is going to charge fully over night either way. At my desk I have a stand and I care more about getting power quickly there.

Fair warning, all of this may be moot. Last I heard it's still up in the air whether the Samsung fast chargers will support fast charging in iOS 11.2. Some people are citing Belkin and Mophie as the only suppliers that will support it at the start.
