I do it regularly, maybe once a year, to get it cleaned properly and so far it hasn't changed a bit. For reference, this is my mousepad and by washing it I mean washing it manually in slightly warm water, not in a washing machine. After all, it's just a piece of fabric and rubber.

Hello /r/mechanicalkeyboards,

seeing how I spend a lot of time at my computer to the point that the keys of my current keyboard are starting to deform and I am in a position to invest in long-lasting peripherals, I am on the hunt for my first mechanical keyboard.

In terms of size, I would like a 105-key full-size ISO layout. Since I use voice coms in which I would prefer not to sound like a machine gun while typing, I think MX Brown switches are the right choice for me, but feel free to suggest other options. I'm using a Silent Monsters Gaming and Office XXL mouse pad which so far has proven quite effective in dampening keyboard sounds, however I'm not quite sure how much it would help with a mechanical keyboard. In terms of use, I would say mostly typing/coding and occasional gaming.

So far so easy. Here comes the hard part: I live in Germany and I am using a Mac. Now, I know that Mac keyboards are not that different from Windows keyboards (except for the arrangement of OS-key/alt to both sides of the space bar, which can be mitigated both in hardware and in software, and the possibly dead key to the right of the space bar) but when I'm dropping serious cash on a keyboard, I would prefer not to make these kinds of compromises.

So far, I've looked at the following options:

  • Das Keyboard 4 Professional Mac
Finding one with MX Brown switches is proving difficult, though.
  • WASD V2 105-Key ISO Custom Mechanical Keyboard
Not quite sure how expensive shipping will be. Also, I'll probably have to fiddle around with Inkscape to tune the layout a bit.

I'd peg my budget at ≤150$ but if you present me with a compelling option, I might be willing to spend a bit more.

In terms of miscellaneous details, I'm rather flexible:

  • Definitely corded. My keyboard isn't moving anywhere and losing the cord just to deal with battery-management seems like a bad deal to me.
  • Media keys / shortcuts would be nice but not a deal breaker if absent.
  • Regarding backlights: I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
  • USB Hub is also nice but not a must since I have a dedicated hub already on the desk.

Sorry if this got a bit too long.

Edit: I went for a CODE 105-key full size, despite the rather high cost for me in Germany.

Buy this instead, it's cheaper and covers most of your desk

Sorry for being a bit late, got a little busy this weekend.

> I mainly listen to rnb and hip hop not a massive on any other genres if I'm being honest. Yes I will be in my own room on my own.

Okay, I forgot to ask. Since I am not a R&B or hip-hop listener. How much do you care about bass? If you do prefer a bass, do you like it to be more "punchy" or rather more subtle, but still "there"?
I've left the headphones out of my suggestion for now, because I need some feedback on this before I can recommend a pair of headphones.

> I already have a logitech c910 and was thinking of getting the c920 but from what I've read it really doesn't seem to be worth it?

The C910 is absolutely great. I also have this one for a long time now and still love it. Great quality and certainly good enough for most streamers. If you want to get a better webcam, I would advise to probably wait a little bit, as camera technology is still moving forward in rapid succession right now.
The C922 is actually already out now, which is the upgrade to the C920 and absolutely beats it hands down.

Anyway enough talking, let's get on with it!

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Yeah, and I'm not saying that the Infensus is a bad pad simply because it doesn't get attention or because I can't find a review of it online. It may be a great pad that unfortunately doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I'm simply just the type of person that likes to be informed about a product as much as possible before purchasing it, by watching reviews and reading what people have to say about it. And that information is simply not available out there about the Infensus.

Also, quick question. You said that there is no reason cheap AliExpress pads would be any different from the current offerings of most gaming brands. So what you're saying is that basically a pad like this is basically just as good as most gaming pads out there, including Glorious pads?

An i5-8600K with a good cooler on a good board, with a GTX 1080 Ti and in a not too big full tower, that also has a window. SSD + HDD, good models, also the psu is excellent.
