$260 + $ amp or $75

It's an easy choice for people that don't have $300+ to spend.

Go to this page and scroll down to the "Connect module" to see the I/O. You've got USB In/Out, and 3.5mm In/Out. I forgot what the 3.5mm input/output specifically, but our integrator said it wasn't what he expected and was difficult to integrate.

In contrast, look at the Phoenix Audio Condor, specifically the "Connections" tab. It's go t USB, built-in SIP phone, analog RCA ins/outs, and digital optical ins/outs. These outputs are AEC-treated speaker outputs.

As a testament to how good the AEC is on this thing, they have a very simple TV cart setup in one of their larger conference rooms. It's literally a TV on a rolling cart with a computer, a Condor, and this soundbar hooked up to the condor via optical output. It gets insanely loud and has zero echo on the farside. It's really unbelievable how good this thing is.

If you're looking for something in that budget it's going to be hard to find anything. I think the link from one of the other redditors is actually pretty solid.

If you're looking for something new I would look at this Vizio 29" soundbar $75. It lacks a sub but it does have a sub out so you can add in a powered sub later on. I like this as most wireless subs end of flaking out and then you pitch the whole thing. This way you can add in a powered unit that you can use later with either another audio system or an AVR if you wanted to expand to surround sound.

I bought this one. $78, and it's pretty damn nice!

Just bought a 29" vizio soundbar without a sub for my Xbox one and monitor. It was very cheap but works great with my Xbox one it even has a sub out if you already have a sub. http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-SB2920-C6-29-Inch-Channel-Sound/dp/B00SMBFZNG

No problem my dude. I personally have this one. I got mine refurbished from Groupon for $40. I was hesitant to pull the trigger since it was so cheap but it's my first soundbar and I figured it'd be a cheap way to test the waters. Even at the $80 it costs right now on Amazon, I'd recommend it. This is probably one of the cheapest soundbars out there, but it's still way better than TV speakers, so I can't imagine how great some of the more expensive soundbars are, especially ones that come with subwoofers and more. I also personally like the look of the soundbar. It fits in perfectly with my setup and since I have it hooked up directly to my TV, it works with my cable box, my PS4, and my XB1 flawlessly.

I don't know a lot about sound systems, but if you find that you're turning on the subtitles because you have a hard time understanding people on TV even if they don't thick accents or anything, I'd recommend getting a sound bar or something like that. This is the one I got and it made watching TV much more enjoyable without costing an arm and a leg. My only complaint with this model is that each level of volume is a major step so there's not a lot of middle ground when picking the volume haha!

Room looks great though!

Honestly, a soundbar is what I'd recommend... easy to have it sit under your monitor, hook it up to the Xbox via optical audio, and just mute/turn it off when you want to use your headphones.

Something like this ($80): https://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-SB2920-C6-29-Inch-Channel-Sound/dp/B00SMBFZNG

I've had this one for 18 months or so. The sound is great for the price, but at <$100 in quite happy with it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SMBFZNG/

Thanks for the info! As I already put in the opening post, I ended up ordering this converter from amazon. It comes with cables and has good reviews, so that seemed a good value.

Does a TV's volume control really have no impact on the digital out coming out of the TV itself? That's kinda surprising. If that turns out to be the case, I don't think we want to spend that much money just for an audio solution for the kitchen TV. I mean, might as well buy a cheap new TV that has a headphones line out at that point and connect it the analog 2.1 computer speakers we already have. Or maybe a sub-$100 soundbar like this.

Can go even cheaper than that then. I picked this up for $75 USD on an Amazon special. If you want to spend a couple dollars more you can get the same model with the subwoofer.

I don't even know what that is, but... Looks it up ...Yeah, like 4x over my budget. That's more expensive than the TV was.

I was looking at stuff like this, but the problem is that I'm not speaker-literate enough to know whether this actually has what I need, can't find any advice that isn't focused on things I don't need, and don't know who I could ask about it. Plus, one of the reviews mentioned an audio delay if you use the cables out of the box, and I don't know how much extra a better set of cables would be (or whether I would end up getting the right ones).

I have a tiny bit (7 inches wide) of space to the left of my monitor, any other speaker would have to go behind my 2nd monitor. I put the tower on top of the desk to make more storage under the desk, so now I have practically no space for anything. The space under my main monitor is part of the reason I'm finding a soundbar style of speaker attractive. I was looking at this thing, but I have no idea if it's any good.

Setup 1/2 & Setup 2/2

(no side panel, desk is uneven, started to cause it to rattle a bit)
