Did she do her hair that day? Did you show her some of your pictures in a similar style ahead of time? Did you deliver on matching the style that they (probably) saw ahead of time? If you followed through on capturing the moment and processing the images in a way that's consistent with your normal work flow, then I'd say you're in the clear.

If she really wants a reshoot, offer another session at your normal rate. If she doesn't like that idea, you could offer a discount on another session as compensation since she's not happy with how she did her hair that day.

How did you bill her? If you gave her an invoice, make sure to write the full price and then deduct a discount (Friends & Family usually works well). This way, they know they're getting a discount. That doesn't quite apply here, but it's good advice for any future work of this nature.

Also, I'd recommend keeping hairspray, bobby pins, hair clips, and hair ties. It'll cost you about $20 up front for all of those things but you'll be able to save yourself hours and hours later in editing hair and your clients will be so much happier with you during the shoot. Also, I'd recommend keeping a mirror in your kit as well.

It's a hair twister! It helps with making buns.

Amazon, like this, this, and this

and then buy a gold chain and connect them. Wayyy cheaper than $900.

u/PosterGhosts · 7 pointsr/curlyhair

Devacurl's clips are $13 for only 8 clips, which is absurd. If you look these curls up on Amazon you can find much cheaper ones, which is what I did. Here is a link to the ones I ordered. They work great, but I'm still trying to figure out how to use them!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CY87MQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/oosetastic · 7 pointsr/BeautyDiagrams

I buy the medium-sized version of these jaw clips:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001QX7NTQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1377048608&sr=1-2&pi=SL75

Then gather my hair at the nape as though I'm going to put it in a low ponytail, then twist it together, and twist it up into a pseudo-French twist. The curls then spill over the top of the clip in a very stylish, but neat, way!

u/shezombie · 6 pointsr/curlyhair

I had the same problem with hair ties so I got this style of hair clip. I pile my hair on top of my head and use this clip to keep it in place. This probably wouldn't work for people with very long hair but mine is just about shoulder length so it works for me. The next morning I use a small spray bottle with a mixture of water and conditioner (mostly water, probably about 10 parts water to 1 part conditioner). I spray my hair and scrunch the curls with my hands. Honestly, some days my second-day curls are better than the first day.

u/bluetagine · 6 pointsr/curlyhair

Deva cuts and styles use these clips to build volume at the root; my stylist used them when I got a deva cut and recommended them to me. I really liked what they did, so I bought some - they are surprisingly foolproof. You can find tutorials online, and you can find the clips for much cheaper elsewhere (I got a pack of a dozen for a few dollars at CVS). I use them both when I diffuse my hair and when I let it air dry.

u/glassescat · 6 pointsr/weddingplanning

I got this one.

The only problem I'm having it's on a clip, not a comb. My hairdresser, for my first test run, pinned it in place and it held. The second time, she did not, and it yanked my hair out.

u/Nextian_Geometry · 5 pointsr/curlyhair

I don't have advice on how to make it work because I have the exact same issue with plopping BUT last time I got my hair cut I asked my hairdresser what I could do to give my curls some more volume around the top of my head and she suggested getting clips like these and inserting them around the crown of my head with the tips pointing toward the top of my head. It holds the roots up while my curls set and then I can just pull them out whenever I want and I have the volume I am looking for. It doesn't in any way solve the problem of not being able to plop my curls so I've just lived without that but they hold up alright anyway. Sorry I can't help with your actual problem! Hope this helps someone at least!

u/cass1512 · 5 pointsr/curlyhair

I use about 5 pumps of gel, and I use clips like these to add extra volume when I diffuse! They really help control the curl and add some volume, especially on the front pieces.

u/saiph · 5 pointsr/Aerials

My go-to is a quick bun held in place with two smallish octopus clips. It holds quite well if I just twist, spiral, and clip (no hair elastic necessary), and it takes like five seconds to do. I have to redo it if I do something bouncy like a mat run, but it stays for basically everything else.

Some of my friends have slipperier hair than me, and they find that two spin pins work better for them than two octopus clips.

If I want something more secure, I'll go full-on classical ballet bun. I'll get my hair damp with a spray bottle, ponytail, and pin the shit out of it. I find that two-stranded buns hold the best and look the nicest (personal preference, though). I'm sure it's not good for my hair, but it's practically indestructible. You can jazz it up by doing a braided bun, a twist-and-braid combo, twists or french braids into the bun, and a bunch of other things.

Ugh, this is making me miss my long hair. I just cut a foot off.

u/Yllibb · 4 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I think /u/HopelessSemantic should be gifted. I know she's my wife, and I might be biased, but there are reasons for this.

She is an amazing and wonderful person. She's super kind and always makes me happy. Without her my life would be empty and devoid of any meaning. She lights up my entire life with happiness. Despite always being in pain she still finds the will to do the house things around the house. Like cooking and baking and cleaning. I don't know how she does it, and I count myself the luckiest guy in the world for just having known her. Pretty hair clip should cover the five dollar item.

The Princess Bride (1987): "Aaaaaaas yoooooooooou wiiiiiiish!"

Empire Records (1995): "Empire Records, open 'til midnight, this is Mark. [pause] Midnight!"

Baby bunnies! Hophopadoobityboo!

Item: My friend loves peacocks, she would adore this.

Now that's a knife!! Thanks for the contest, that was fun. :D

u/puppylish1028 · 3 pointsr/curlyhair

Hi! We have similar hair, I think! When I went to Devachan they gave me a bunch of clips to use on my roots while my hair is drying - helps that part curl up more. These are the same ones.
I also find that keeping my head upside down until it’s time to SOTC helps a lot. It can be quite the time commitment though.

But honestly, I often find I quite like the straight-ish at the top look. Feels unique :)

P.s. halfie here too!

u/aerel28 · 3 pointsr/secretsanta

Creepy stalking! I'm in!

I would definitely get you something Alkaline Trio related, or a subscription to a punk magazine, or funky temporary tattoos, or bone hand hair clips?

u/ZimKat · 3 pointsr/femalehairadvice

Clip the hair on either side of the separation together when it's wet, then either air dry or blow-dry. I use these
https://www.amazon.com/Diane-Double-Prong-Clips-80/dp/B00143WQI6?keywords=Roller+clip&qid=1538014470&sr=8-4&ref=mp_s_a_1_4

u/MisforMisanthrope · 3 pointsr/curlyhair

I use an extra large octopus clip to put my hair up because all hair ties just end up knotted into my very thick hair. These work well for me: https://www.amazon.com/Scunci-No-slip-Octopus-Natural-Tortoise/dp/B00J6SDPTU/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3TLVDAUJRCB2K&keywords=octopus%2Bhair%2Bclips%2Bfor%2Bwomen&qid=1555619628&s=gateway&sprefix=octopus%2Bhair%2B%2Caps%2C282&sr=8-1&th=1

If I am sleeping then I pineapple it on top of my head to preserve my curls, but if I just want it up to work out or whatever I gently pull it back into a ponytail shape, plop the ends on top of my head, clip at the back of my head where I want the most volume, then rearrange the ends over it.

u/gigglesmcbug · 3 pointsr/Parenting

Try an octopus clip.

u/minniesnowtah · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

\> with short hair is it really worth it?

Anything is worth a try, but whether it's worth it to keep it up is your call once you see how you like it.

\> Or would a gel be better?

Gel is certainly easier and cheaper, so we recommend it as a starting place. LOC is great too but having that many steps introduces more potential for troubleshooting problems.

\> Can I use tiny butterfly clips to curl my hair while my hair is wet and has styling products to help add more curl?

Yes! Or flat, metal root clips like these (just picked a random one off amazon to link).

You'll also want to experiment with adding protein or not, since your hair feels coarse. I'm not sure whether you'll need more or less (guessing more?) but that's another variable to play around with to improve the texture.

Good luck with everything! Hope that helps.

I bought these recently, they're essentially the same as Devacurl clips but much more affordable. I'm not the user you replied to, but for me, I clip right at the roots and it doesn't interfere with my curl direction at all. This video is really helpful! https://youtu.be/LFLCD12RKbw

My favorite birthday was my earliest memory. I turned 5 and my mom got me a cake and had Sailor Moon on it. It was one of those cakes that had a picture printed on it, and my presents were wrapped in Barbie themed wrapping paper.

I remember after opening each present, I would hug every member of my family. Literally every single present.

I also couldn't help but to see your username is "Marzipan86"... Would you be a fan of Cutiepie aka Marzia on youtube?

Also for volume, have you tried clipping your roots? these or something like it are helpful. Sometimes when I’m in a rush I’ll clip my roots, blow dry said roots, then drive to work and when I park I’ll take the clips out & SOTC. Good luck!

u/mtszyk · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I mostly only do it near my part, in one of these styles. I'm really bad at it, but you can get results even if you don't do a super great job. I think I got some cheap pack from amazon. When I'm removing them, I pull a lot of single hairs which is pretty annoying and if plopped or diffused after putting them in, it can be a huge pain.

The results are so nice though!

u/Kheldarson · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I use the DevaCurl DevaClips (https://smile.amazon.com/DevaCurl-3301-Deva-Clips/dp/B00I81IS70/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1543593558&sr=8-2&keywords=devaclips)

I clip the hair along the scalp line, going for lift and a bit of pulling it back, and then try to cross-clip wherever my part is falling at the time.

u/doxiegrl1 · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I don't know how to braid, but I use these clips to keep my hair up. http://www.amazon.com/Scunci-No-slip-Grip-Octopus--Count/dp/B001SXPSD2/ref=sr_1_8?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1412255253&sr=1-8&keywords=hair+clips

I take my hair, twist it, and then pin it up with the clip. My hair doesn't look as good when I take it down, but it usually looks okay.

u/Bellainara · 2 pointsr/internetparents

It is frustrating when you have to learn it all on your own. I didn't get taught anything but how to fear my mother. So cooking, cleaning, girl stuff etc was all on me to learn alone.

If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend r/raisedbynarcissists and r/JUSTNOMIL for connecting with others who have dealt with abusive parents. They would be good for advice to deal with the psychological mindfuck aspect.

I just recently bought some cheap hair clips from Amazon and they make me feel dressy even with a basic style. Like I'll twist mine into a simple bun, but then clip the very ends with the clip and BOOM, looks fancy as shit.

I was given from a friend on r/Random_Acts_of_Amazon a peacock clip and I'm waiting on this bow clip to arrive. Something like those may help you feel like a ponytail is pretty.

u/Kathmandu99 · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

ok, high porosity makes sense if it's color treated. So, I use either the Hask Keratin protein mask or the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil deep conditioners, and both of them work really well. In fact, I was having issues just last week because I had moved climates and my hair was getting REALLY dry... so I did an extra-long treatment with the Shea Moisture one (left it in for about 45 minutes) and my hair is MUCH better again. Now, I don't recommend doing that, it risks protein overload, but a good 20 minute treatment might be what you need.

I have to do a mask about once a week to keep mine looking good.

Personally I just use some little butterfly clips that I had lying around, but these ones are the actual recommended style: https://www.amazon.ca/Diane-Double-Prong-Clips-Count/dp/B00143WQI6/ref=pd_cp_194_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00143WQI6&pd_rd_r=b003856c-baf3-11e8-a904-6bfe9a9fef2d&pd_rd_w=Wx9zp&pd_rd_wg=CEFcc&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_p=95448740-5917-4df8-bb6a-086a0d0bb079&pf_rd_r=0ZCG00FMHRGEFESYRHZR&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=0ZCG00FMHRGEFESYRHZR

Idk how much hair you have, but I've starting using these almost exclusively: Scunci No-slip Grip Octopus Clip, 8.5 Cm, [Natural, Tortoise Shell, Black] Set of 3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J6SDPTU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_eZLQwbQM2T36F Almost any hair ties either pull my hair too much or don't hold it up well enough. Hair clips, especially the rounded little clamps. I use these to keep all my wires neatly together. Clips picture

u/LittleSnarf · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I have this same problem too! What works for me is snap clips instead of bobby pins, one above each ear. They lie flat, you can get them in a color to match your hair so they are less noticeable, and don't slide.

Basically anything like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008S5743A/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?qid=1396967283&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

I have tried quite a few things for keeping multicore builds straight, allow me to save everybody the pain and bit of money of experimenting with this essay.

---

Aw man, those things sucked for me, assuming we bought the same ones... too weak, made of plastic and too large to be tight enough. Amazon disappointed me with this one. Glad they're working for you though!

Paperclips bend your wire and can screw everything over, especially if they're not tight enough. I tried special "Owl" paperclips and they still bent the wires like regular paperclips did.

Hair snap clips SERIOUSLY bend up your wire and don't even want to clip shut most of the time. Avoid, at least these particular ones.

Clothespins are too weak as well, at least the wooden ones.

I tried... I am not sure what they're called, they're the squeeze things that are on the strings of a hoodie, and the ones I bought were too weak, but would've worked nicely if the spring was better. These aren't the exact ones I bought, but they're the same thing.

I purchased two different Micro chucks (number 2) for my drill, they fit into the drill and have four jaws, but they're impossible to tighten enough for them to be worth using, your wires just fall out. Disappointing.

I purchased a Jeweler's Hand Vise and it works great, except that it comes out of the drill at a slight upward angle, with longer wires it causes everything to jerk around a bit which can snap 38g+ if you're not careful, especially at faster speeds, but besides that it's a great tool that I use all the time. Everybody should have one of these!

I bought a set of those fancy Patino's alien makers and mine are the older ones that need to be broken in first and believe me I've tried jamming many, many different things into those 3DPrinted pieces of crap to no avail, but the newer version apparently don't need to be broken in so I'm not absolutely writing them off.

Aaanyways, I found, on the floor while buying groceries, this tiny keyring. I have no idea where to purchase one, but it's about the size of a USD Penny and it's made out of what looks to be 14/16 AWGauge wire that had been wrapped around a sharpie three times. It's tight as hell and works the best out of anything I've ever used, I just wish I could find where to actually buy it.

Besides that, the old ribbon slider trick works well enough most of the time, just gotta carefully crimp them down with flat-nosed pliers.

I saw this thing and I'm incredibly tempted to purchase or make my own, as I believe it would be one of the most useful tools.

Last but most promising is this contraption and this one seems to be the improved 2.0 version. I would purchase one if I still had problems because I'm certain it would work amazingly, but the jeweler's hand vise works well enough, even with the jerkiness.

TL;DR, my personal suggestion is:

The absolute best thing I have discovered to keep multiple cores straight is a technique rather than a tool: put your wires into the drill chuck as straight as you can, bending them into Ls to match the three jaws and wrap 36-40g wire around the starting point of the wire like twenty times for about half of a centimeter and then crimp it down hard as you can with pliers while not bending the cores. It works so well that you don't even need to use anything else if you do it just right!

Hope all this can help you guys, feel free to share this information wherever with whoever whenever needed.

How often you clarify is really up to you. I find that I need to do it about every 3 weeks (more/less depending on how often I've gone to the gym or other things that tend to get my scalp gross).

Root clipping is where you put little clips like these in your hair right up to the scalp. There's a few different ways to do it. I found this one to be the most helpful, but there's plenty of videos and tutorials.

I've never been to Michigan but I have moved a lot. Only take things that would be hard or expensive to replace. Like you can get a couch cheaper (if you don't mind used) than it would be to move it. Why not sell it before you move?

Craziest thing was when I let a friend cut my hair in the bathroom during lunch time in high school... My father had a weird thing about never letting me have short hair when I was a kid, so as a teenager after I had asked to have my hair cut and been told no, I told my friends at school and... well, I already said what happened after that. (Yes, I did get in trouble with my dad afterward... but he never tried to force me to have long hair again, because he knew I'd cut it myself no matter what he said.)

I just use these regular clips. There are all kinds of variations. The dollar store is a great place to pick up a bunch of different types so you can experiment and see what you like. I’ve also used these type of clips as well.

Terry teeths on teeny tiny tacos. Item.

u/stillneverwrong · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

It's this one here. If I were you, I'd look for a little bit pricier version, though... this one was broken when I opened it. I hot glued it to a plain barrette, though.

SFW XXX

I've been eyeing this fantastic peacock hairclip for awhile....!

u/bannana · 1 pointr/aspergirls

I keep it long so I can twist it up in a bun and use a single alligator clip, this prevents the breakage that would happen with a ponytail or barrette. I also don't wash my hair very much (dry shampoo along with cornstarch/coco/cinnamon mixture works wonders.) and by not very much I often go two or three weeks without washing, this makes it much easier to twist up in a single clip. I start the twist near the crown of my head and go down with it then fold it up and put in the clip from the bottom, this seems to work the best for me.

alligator clip like these
And these clips work well also.

I think it much easier to put up hair that's a bit dirty than when it's slippery after just washing.

If my fella didn't express a strong preference to my long hair it would be about an inch long all the way around, I've told him if we ever break up the hair is coming off the next day.

These magic the gathering cards from your wishlist $3.39 + $3.00 + 7.00 + 4.42 = $17.81 - $2.06 peacock hair clip -$7.00 = $8.75

Basically it's just a addition subtraction of prices/items off your wishlist to make the $8.75

Where are you, you spongy, yellow, delicious bastards? Zombieland?

u/Mark12547 · 0 pointsr/whatisthisthing

It reminded me of a piece of a metal hair snap clip, missing the outer part of the clip.

Edited to add:

But u/meghareaux's guess could very well be right: the odd bend could be to hold a pull-out keyboard drawer in the out position so it doesn't move around while in use, but a firm push would overcome the spring effect and allow the drawer to slide back into its recess. So you might check if the channel of a pull-out drawer might be missing that part.
