I bought it. Thank you! We had a company come out and evaluate the mold and they said we could do it ourselves - so we did. Used bleach + mold removal to clean, then mold killer and cement sealant to finish.

I did the spray insulation myself as well.

Barn door hardware was just Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FL78UN6

For the door itself, similar to this but horizontal slats instead of vertical: http://blog.jennasuedesign.com/2016/04/diy-barn-door-plans-tutorial/

Or maybe you can run the hardware across the top of these two walls and install these doors:

Rolls smoothly! Would recommend :)

u/Sazqwatch · 3 pointsr/woodworking

So when I purchased the hardware I had to buy one Hardware Kit. This included the rail and the hardware to mount only one door. But the item is sadly no longer available from the seller I used, however there are still others that sell them, I would just recommend reading the dimensions of a seller you choose. I did cut the rails I purchased to fit the cabinet

Then because we had two doors I needed to get a second set of just the Door Mounting Hardware . This one is still available currently

The style we used was a ‘J’ style which refers to the shape of the door mounting hardware. there are others styles but I can’t remember the names

——————————————————

Edit:
While looking up the hardware I used, I just found this set which contains everything you would need for double doors Barn Double Door Hardware . Except you would have to cut the rail to the length you build the cabinet to

Think something like that would work?

u/rubalcava_works · 2 pointsr/woodworking

I picked one up from amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0181SV7N6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I ended up buying one meant for a person door and cutting it down to fit the width i needed. It was the most expensive part of the build.....

u/marmorset · 2 pointsr/DIY

You'd need something like this or something similar. You'd have to attache the picture to a piece of plywood so it has some sturdiness and wouldn't get damage.

Also, you'd have have a way to open and close it without grabbing the art each time and destroying it.

Finally, I have two recurring dreams and this is one. I suddenly find a new door or extra room in my house and suddenly realize I have all this extra space.

My other dream is that I'm driving my Mini and it breaks down at the entrance to a tunnel. I don't know what that means.

WINSOON 8FT Antique Double Sliding Barn Door Hardware Roller Track Kit Black, 4-18FT for Choose https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014SMIWTQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_IqUsDbFDVTDK1. Something like this looks nice could be made to lock not flimsy like plastic ecordian walls my be more costly than you would like

u/chrisbrl88 · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Oh! Cool! That looks really nice!

You could try it without the guide, but that's not the type of track that'll stop the door from swinging around (neither is the one I linked, now that I look at it closer).

You could either go with the tile bit, or get a guide that's actually meant to mount to the wall. It looks like whoever installed that one just repurposed the floor mount. Looks kinda crappy as it is with those shims, tbh.

u/kinsmore · 2 pointsr/NiceHash

Just get one of these (or a much cheaper one, i just picked the first one i found to show what I mean) and you can pipe it right out a window without looking like a crazy person.

u/ReallyGene · 2 pointsr/DIY

Unfortunately, this won't work very well, as even with positive pressure, the humidity will not drop (and that's the main source of comfort with conditioned air).

I suggest you go to a lumber yard/ big box store and have them rip a sheet of plywood to create a 1-foot wide, tall panel you can insert along the glass slider. Cut a hole in it for the portable AC duct, and buy some rubber weather stripping (like used for the bottom of a garage door) for seals on both sides. If you measure carefully, you can size the plywood paned so it is secured by the upper and lower tracks; you would just have to flex it a couple of inches to install it.

EDIT: If you're not up to that, you can buy this kit that does the same thing.

I'm in a bathroom in a hotel with a barn style sliding door to the bathroom. It has a tab that you can pop out to lock it. Maybe that works for barn doors?

Guess I missed that part. I think you're right; casters would save a lot of space, horizontally speaking. You could also look into sliding barn door hardware similar to this

u/smallen1313 · 1 pointr/HomeKit

I would think building it as a foot bolt would be a lot more flexible than trying to solve all the different latch mechanisms. I’m pretty sure it was an add-on to my door when I had it installed. It’s basically this two-piece thing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q5RXGDT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_6fQ4DbZ9MT494

(It also allows you to lock it opened a crack. That’s why there are two notches in the plate.)

u/AscendantArtichoke · 1 pointr/DIY

We have this same problem with our bathroom! (Minus the carpet, thankfully..) I‘m looking for solutions other than a barn door since it won’t fit..

Do you have a guide for the bottom of the door? If not, you should check this out: https://www.amazon.com/IMPROVED-BEARINGS-Adjustable-Infiniti-Elementz/dp/B075VWPMV1/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549898201&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=barn+door+bottom+guide&dpPl=1&dpID=31Ya0mFNbUL&ref=plSrch

The first barn door I did was over tile, and I didn’t want to drill into the floor, so this one mounts to the wall instead.

You will want to search for Barn Door Rollers I believe. Amazon has these.

u/Aaronf989 · 1 pointr/DIY

Quick question. Does anyone know if there is a type of door or mount that slides over an opening (like this) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0181SV7N6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.6HpDbE4V691J

But when it covers the opening it can be pushed in to lock? That way you cant see around the cracks?

u/refugefirstmate · 1 pointr/NoStupidQuestions

> drilling on the wall at the very least,

Where? How?

I have a window unit in my bedroom, and it just, you know, sits in the window.

And "portable" ACs, all you need to do is open the window and put a panel with the vent in the open part, like this:

https://www.amazon.com/EdgeStar-APPK2010-Upgraded-Portable-Sliding/dp/B00KQ0LA44

u/mikel319 · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Your studs should be 16 on center. If you anchor into them, there is no need for a backing board.

Here is the kit we bought from Amazon: kit

Here is pic of our install

We have 1 bracket screwed into each king stud, 1 into the 2x6 header, and 1 into each of the first 2 studs immediately to left of door opening.

Excellent hardware. Very high quality. Would recommend.

u/JeffGordonRamsay · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

If you ever go for it, I highly recommend building your own doors. I had all the pieces cut for free at Home Depot and literally all that was left was to sand, glue, and paint. This is the sliding door hardware I used, making the total cost for two rails and two doors a little over $300. The rafters aren't functional but they sure do lend themselves to the overall aesthetic. Thanks for your comments!

u/Garbolobster · 1 pointr/DIY

It depends on the mounting hardware for the track you purchased. There is a stud on the left side of that door floor to ceiling and the track will have to go to that stud in order for the door to shut all the way. It would be helpful to have a link or pictures of the track you purchased. Worst case drill a few new holes or return for a track with more flexible mounting options. Something like http://www.amazon.com/WoodenSlidingDoor-Hardware-Interior-Sliding-Hardware-Stainless/dp/B00BGGI5WW/ would work with no modification (although its ugly as sin) but you can mount the supports where you have studs and then attach the track to it.

u/leyline · 1 pointr/preppers

I had a piece of extra molding that I dropped in; it lies in the track perfectly, and actually levels it off so sweeping is easy.

However just a flat head screwdriver will lift outer door off the track and it can be removed, even while closed.

These are from the 80's with a very thin lower track, just a bump and it's off.

The only thing I have been thinking of is something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008Y2TH14/ref=psdc_9628854011_t1_B00AE9PTSA

But there isn't room to attach it to the frame of the slider, that does not hit the outer frame preventing it from seating closed.
