The wife and I just bought a used tandem bike for cruising some rail trails and greenways, plus the occasional party-pace social ride. I might have to do this for one of the Halloween brewery rides this year.
Edit: This is the bike, except an older model and I'm blinging it all out with fancy high end Brooks leather seats and a full Sugino drivetrain upgrade.

As someone whose had to park on both sides of campus, the west side of campus (fine arts, architecture), is soooo much easier. Or just take 8AM classes and not worry about it. I thought about buying one of these and charging people something like $5 to get to class lol
Just combine these as there’s 2 spaces for bottles that should be ideal for batteries.

This looks like a pretty cheap, poor quality tandem; ashtabula bottom brackets, timing chain on same side as drive train = no front gears, timing chain tension set by some kind of pulley or something, very rusty, steel wheels...You can buy a brand new tandem of this quality/type for about $300 (it would probably cost you $200 to get the CL one running).

Not sure what your budget is, but if I were you, I'd keep looking on CL for a better bike (real tandem - Burley, Canondale, Santana, etc.). If you guys start on on something that sucks, you will not be able to fairly asses whether or not tandem biking is for you....remember to get the correct size bike for both of you...this is critical.
