mount points for the OEM tonneau cover. if you want a tie-down there the front bed rail is a better choice.

You can buy a factory rail off Amazon for like $50. It's the same rail as 2nd gens.

Thanks!

I don't know of a tool that will gauge structural integrity. My guess is it depends on a variety of things including the type of wood, quality of the wood, and the joint. My response to my fear of the bed falling apart was over engineering it. But the bed rail fasteners (http://www.amazon.com/Galvanized-Steel-Bed-Rail-Fasteners/dp/B001DSZGCU?ie=UTF8&keywords=bed%20rail%20fasteners&qid=1465488171&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1) are where the strength of the corner joints come from.

In general, the weight will be distributed across places in the bed, so just think about designing stronger joints where they might be more stress (corners, middle support, etc.). I was afraid the first few nights that we'd wake up to the bed falling in on top of us... but not a single creak yet.

Someone else may be more helpful here if they know of some tool.

Your truck doesnt have any rails at all or just missing the head rail? I just ordered this head rail.

Maybe use bed rail fasteners for the leg stretchers? https://www.amazon.com/Galvanized-Steel-Bed-Rail-Fasteners/dp/B001DSZGCU
