You can just buy a blue vest off amazon for $6. Cheaper than a t shirt

I've lived in Portland for ~25 years and I haven't owned an actual winter coat since I was a kid.

I just layer up depending on conditions. On truly cold days I'll do long sleeve shirt + vest + shell/lightweight jacket + gloves + hat. Works well enough as long as you aren't trekking several miles or more.

Columbia is great if you want an inexpensive (~$25) vest to layer underneath your lightweight jacket:

Here's a nicer but a little more expensive (~$70) vest:

I like these hats; they're super warm and inexpensive. Just get a seam ripper so you can remove the (IMO) unsightly logo tag:

My question regarding your skin tone was poorly phrased. For some items, I have linked two pieces, one in case you have warm undertones, and one in case you cool undertones.

Hopefully, what I have found will help you build your wardrobe for fall and winter. :)

1x Charcoal Jeans $28.9739

They look a bit long, but they could work, you can always roll up the legs. Just be mindful about the length.

1x Flannel or Flannel Shirt Jacket/1x Flannel or Flannel Shirt Jacket $98.7746/$22.5752

The first link links to a red shirt, it is the other colour I have in mind. The second links goes to a red shirt.

1x Cardigan or nice sweater/1x Cardigan or nice sweater $65/$118.516

Consider your frame when buying a sweater, as you don't want to buy one that's too big and disappear in it.

This shirt might go nice with the charcoal jeans you requested.

I wear a battery heated vest so that I don’t have to wear bulky layers. And when I’m going over a bridge, I get hot and can just turn it off.

This is similar to the model I have:

No..a sleeveless jacket. A vest is not the same thing as a sleeveless jacket. They're cut differently, for one. At least I think they are.

This is the one I have..it was a Christmas present from MIL. Yes, I KNOW it's a men's jacket. No I don't give a shit because I didn't find any women's sleeveless denim jackets that I liked back when i was looking because MIL had asked me to make an Amazon wishlist around the holidays.

As the dude who put together the album, I can guess the vest you saw might have been a Brown's Beach vest. They pop up quite frequently in the album, because a) they're super popular right now in many workwear/heritage style circles, and b) I think they're pretty awesome.

Heddel's did a pretty cool article on the history of the garment/company and current trend here if you're interested.

They're super pricey, though. A really good deal on a used Japan-made modern repro will run you around $200.

Woolrich (and other brands) have made a similar style for a long time, in various iterations. Unfortunately, most of them have a zipper instead of buttons (not as good looking, IMHO). Woolrich has a newer version with buttons, but it's imported and the fabric lacks the cool two-tone knit thing going on that the Browns Beach ones do. A lot of older Woolrich stuff is USA-made, so you might get lucky buying used.

Not sure what particular style you're after, but Schaefer Ranchwear is a company that makes some really high-quality stuff here in the US. Not as "cool" at the moment as Filson, and quite a bit more "western" styled, but some great garments that can often be found super cheap on the secondhand market (just found one of their denim vests for $22 shipped on eBay).
