This is the best 256GB SSD you can buy for $35. That's dirt cheap so there's really no reason not to get one. Even if it doesn't solve your problem here it'll be a huge QOL improvement for just about everything.

Where did they get that $60 from? They were probably talking about NVMe, now that I think about it. A 256gb SU800 isn’t that much more expensive, and if you’re 100% sure that 128gb is fine, then that’s an option as well.

EDIT 2: I meant not that much more expensive as in price/GB, not in total price. Actually a 256gb SU800 has about the same price/GB as a 120GB Kingston A400, since 120GB SSDs are usually not that cost efficient.

No problem. When it comes to SSDs, this is a good resource. My concern with the SU635 is that it doesn't have any DRAM, which, sparing the technical details, means that the drive will be slower and less durable. Perhaps something like the ADATA SU800 256GB would be a better bet for less than $10 more. I can't confirm whether it has DRAM, but I suspect that it does, and I know that the SU630/635 does not.
Are there any brands to avoid when shopping for a SSD? Originally planned on getting some AMD SSD but it went back up in price and wanted to know if there are any brands or models that are known to be bad. I'm looking at the ADATA SU800 256GB but never used any of their products or know anybody who has. Anybody know if their products are reliable or if their support is good?

IMO motherboards are the most complicated part of any given computer. There is a youtuber called Buildzoid that has a channel that's almost entirely dedicated to motherboards (he talks about memory a little bit as well). Luckily, your decision shouldn't be too difficult since you 1) have a low power CPU, and 2) don't seem too interested in overclocking, so you the only things you need to worry about are basically Wifi, fan headers, form factor, etc., kinda like you said above. So the ASRock B450M Pro4 will probably be fine.

Memory: 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200
Buildzoid does a pretty comprehensive video on the Ryzen 3rd gen memory system. 3433-3800 is best for 3rd gen Ryzen because you want to match the same clock speed as the infinity fabric controller, which runs anywhere from 1766 to 1900 (speed depends on lottery).
But my knowledge of 2nd gen Ryzen is pretty limited. I can't remember which is best, but it's either 3000 or 3200. You're probably right with 16GB, and you don't need to worry about trying for super tight primary and secondary timings, because those don't matter too much outside of overclocking and synthetic benchmark record breaking. 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16 is fine, grab what's cheaper or if you like RGB then grab a pretty kit.

The other physical form factor is M.2, while the other electrical interface is PCIe, which has a maximum throughput of 4000MB/s for PCIe gen 3 x4 and 2000MB/s for PCIe gen 3 x2 (the motherboard will specify what it is just like it does for the other PCIe slots). I've seen some with speeds of 700MB/s and others with 2800MB/s so you really have to look at the product description to see the actual speed. One that I would recommend is the Intel 660p Series 1TB SSD. It usually runs at about 1600MB/s for both read and write, and it's about the same price as most other 1TB SSDs.
NOTICE THIS EXAMPLE OF A "FAKE" NVMe SSD - It has the same M.2 physical form factor BUT it still uses the SATA interface, and sure enough, when you check the rated speed, it says around 540 MB/s for read and 430 MB/s for write.

It seems like when you were comparing the 580, 590, 1060, 1660, and 1660 Ti, you were looking mostly at value. IMO, if you're going for high to ultra, I would focus on the 1660 Ti (specifically the MSI Ventus XS OC, it recently dropped to $270). That, however, is only until we see 1660 Super, 5500, and 5600 benchmarks. How long do you think you are willing to wait?

You are mostly right. Here is an example of an efficiency curve just in case you haven't seen any yet.
Wattage-wise the 2600 will use about 75-90, RX 590 about 225-275, and
Efficiency-wise, even though there is an increase going from bronze to gold, IMO it's too small to warrant the significant price difference.

For an OS drive, I'd recommend something a little better.
For $35, you can get an Adata su800 256gb. I've seen the price go lower on sale, but there's a certain amount of patience and effort required.
Some brand recommendations here. This is a non-workstation drive, it's your OS/Primary, and you want price as low as possible (though a good sale on the more performance-oriented category might be possible).
If you've got an i3 it's probably not too old to upgrade and you almost definitely have a SATA hard drive in your PC right now. Swap that for an SSD and do a new clean install of windows and it'll run better than it ever has before. Going to 8GB of ram would help as well but the SSD will make a much more noticeable difference so if you're tight on cash I'd say do the SSD no matter what. Something like this or even better this
Buying a solid state drive to upgrade a 2010 MacBook Pro. Between the following, is there any major differences I'll notice? I'm not a power user by any means, just looking to improve boot/app start times. Looking at ~250GB. I'm leaning towards the ADATA solely based on price and can easily be swayed towards the others.

In my experience, the biggest difference between internal and external is price. An internal SSD is cheaper, and it's only about 10 bucks for the enclosure that basically turns it into an external drive.

Even though you already addressed the driver issue, upgrading to a cheap SSD would make Windows and frequently used programs feel a lot snappier.

Get a Dell Optiplex with a 2nd or 3rd gen Core i5 on ebay that comes with Windows and throw in an SSD.

With that particular desktop that I listed, you need a monitor with display port. I'm sure there are others on ebay that have HDMI or DVI. Monitors with those connectors are a little cheaper. But you can do around $300 going this route. You honestly won't need anything more powerful than a 2nd or 3rd gen Core i5, 8GB of RAM and an SSD. Get a 1080p monitor and you're good to go.

I bought a SU800 1TB for $80-$90 and i can max out steam downloads at 90 mb/s on my fiber line with it. i cant do that with my old kingston ssd.
