> yea the GPU alone is $700 and blows both console completely out of the water. and that's the minimum requirement

It's $500, and you can find them used for around $400 or so

u/RayzTheRoof · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Can someone explain why G. Skill's RAM with the exact same specs costs $130 less? Especially when the specs are the same, isn't RAM from two different respectable brands basically the same thing? Or do people pay more for the sexy looks of the Corsair Dominator Platinums?

I am not criticizing btw. I am genuinely curious about the cost difference. And if there is none then I would recommend the G. Skill RAM here over that, giving you $130 to spend elsewhere, like on a higher end CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231589

Edit: Apparently this RAM has a light bar. That RAM costs that much only for the looks. Save yourself some cash for this first build and get something else.

Edit 2: And you can save some more cash and get more performance by getting EVGA's SuperClocked version of that GPU: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GTX-GDDR5-Graphics-Card/dp/B00NT9UT3M/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425965605&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+980

What makes you prefer the 970?

The 980Ti is a good suggestion if you can drop that kind of money on it. If not, I would go with a EVGA GTX 980 SC w/ ACX 2.0. This is what I run and it works great, stays pretty cool and is silent as can be.

u/wellitsbouttime · 2 pointsr/mac

so would your recommendation be that I stick to something with the nvidia architecture like this

thank you very much.

u/Evil-Dragon · 2 pointsr/oculus

I personally bought EVGA GTX980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 but still waiting for it on preorder here in the UK. It's probably a bit overkill but coming from the GTX 670 i hope to see some improvement in demos/VR. From what i've read already a lot of people have been posting positive things about the GTX 980. Lets hope they are true.

[2x EVGA GTX 980 4GB SC ACX 2.0.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NT9UT3M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I am trying to upgrade to a 1080ti, but not sure what two of these could be worth. Both have been used heavily in dual SLI config for at least a year. I am upgrading to a 1080ti either way, but it would be a shame for these to rot on my shelf.

u/Broskifromdakioski · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Are you in the US? I bought it on February 10, 2016 and just replaced it last month with a 1080ti. Let me know

I've got a GPU cooling question. I have 2 EVGA superclocked 980s and when they're both under load they both reach temps in the high 70s. I've read that they'll start underclocking at 80C.

My question is is there a better way to cool the cards? I have two 140mm in the front, one 140mm fan in the back, and a Kraken x61 on the top of my case for my CPU.

Hm you know what, I think I'll get a EVGA 980 (simply because I that's the only one on Amazon that'll ship to Australia) and then wait for a monitor like you said. 1440p G-Sync sounds like a good balance in monitors.

I wish I could get the ASUS STRIX 980 off Amazon, it's only $10 more than the EVGA but it won't ship to Aus (In Aus, the 980s are like $850).

This one Would be a good choice right? And if I ever wanted to SLI, I could get another one of those then.

u/cselhost · 1 pointr/nvidia

No, I only ordered it 2 days ago. The time was quoted 2-5 weeks. Looking now it appears to have been moved back to 1-2 months.

u/GeckoEidechse · 1 pointr/titanfall

I have a 980 too (this one) and on 60FPS it works just fine for me with everything set to high, AO disabled (of course) and Anti-Aliasing turned off.

I do however get frame drops on Demeter, Lag-oon (get it? haha), swampland. For the later ones is probably due to the water. So usually I turn water quality down there.

Sidenote: I'm running the card with the default settings, no additional over-clocking. Also while it, according to the manual, requires a 500W power supply, I'm using a 400W one as I don't have the required one. \^\^

u/_Ganon · 1 pointr/softwaregore

You can probably find more information online, but...

Parts used:

  • GTX 980
  • Akitio Thunder2
  • PCIe Riser Cable
  • Dell Power Adapter
  • Modded power cable
  • Thunderbolt Cable (ships with Akitio)
  • Thunderbolt2 capable laptop (no reason to use this with desktop)

Once everything's put together, connects to your laptop via Thunderbolt cable. If you've built a desktop computer before, you'll easily be able to figure out how to put this together. If you haven't, I don't recommend attempting this.

If you're asking for strictly graphics cards I would go with the minimum of a r9 290x or a [GTX 970] (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Quieter-Graphics-04G-P4-2974-KR/dp/B00NVODXR4/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449824615&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+970) and these I would say can do 4k but won't be amazing at 4k. They will do amazing at max settings on WWE at 1080 60fps. Not entirely sure about 4k. What I have seen is people use the 980 in SLI for 4K and I'm positive you can do the same with the 290x or the 970 and get the job done as well. And I'm sure one of the GTX 980ti will do just fine. As for processors I myself have an i5-4690k and it gets the job done well. I would say go for an i5-4690k or higher and you can also search for the AMD equivalent as well. I don't have much experience with AMD so I wouldn't know what to recommend

EDIT: Here is a video showing the GTX 980 & i7-4790k running WWE 2K15 at 4K and 60 FPS

u/aotar · 1 pointr/worldnews

What are you talking about? GTX 980 is $519 USD

u/oatmealpacket · 1 pointr/Amd

One of these (EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB SC GAMING ACX 2.0)

u/Clint_beastw00d · 1 pointr/gadgets

I actually have evga GTX 980 overclocked, SLI. I will post it after work, had 3 cards, but didn't need the 3rd, gave it to my Fiancee for her machine instead.

CPU: I7-4790K

GPU: EVGA GTX980 ACX 2.0

MOBO:Asus Z87 PRO

CPU COOLER:CORSAIR H100i

CASE:NZXT SWITCH 810

Monitors: Asus VG248QE

I play with three monitors using surround and run at 2560x1600, usually getting 90-140 FPS with the racing games I play, I just use the single middle monitor if I am playing a shooter or something else. The bezel kind of kills me a bit, and would like to not have it altogether.

If you want - post a game and I'll make a video of it running at X amount of frames, because I cannot go back to dog shit 60 FPS.

u/frijolpinol · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Hey man, thanks a lot!

Do you know if this video card is equivalent to the one you posted? Looks pretty similar.

u/ChrisTajic · 1 pointr/battlestations

Yea, it's about 100$ cheaper than when I bought it, but the 980 is right at the same price, so I would pick up that

Yes amazon can ship to Aus sometimes.
Not sure about that motherboard but im not going bother.
Obviously you would have to wait for shipping for these parts

u/Psilox · 1 pointr/oculus

What's your price budget for each of the PC tiers? This PC plus a GTX 980 is under $1000 very close to $1000 and would very handily run anything you can throw at it. Not sure where that sits on your pricing tier, but thought it might be food for thought.

If that's on your high end, I'd probably go for option 1 to get the best experience possible (and wait to buy the headset until more content and reviews come out if you can bear it).

That being said, I love playing games with my GF, so I definitely understand the appeal there. If you're routinely away from home or do long distance for periods of time I'd definitely go option 3 since you can watch movies together. :D

Edit: Not under a $1000, just a touch over it.

u/piemeister · 0 pointsr/hardwareswap

EVGA 980 SC is $559 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GTX-GDDR5-Graphics-Card/dp/B00NT9UT3M

And has been for a while. Where are you getting $620? The MSRP for 980is is $549, and that was when they got released 4 months ago.

u/Dioroxic · 0 pointsr/PS4

Umm how about the specs they are advertising? The speed they are advertising plops the GPU around the power of an r9 390x That card ALONE is $400 ish right now.

Then you couple in their other specs they suggested for hard drive and ram and processor... Shit this thing will NOT be below $600. It's gonna be between $700 and $1000 at most.

I would guess $750 or $800.
