FRONTIER is way better than Comcast for sure! But don't use their shitty routers that they give you. Go buy yourself one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Advanced-Simultaneous-Dual-Band-Wireless-N/dp/B004T9RR4A (Linksys E2500).

I pay for FiOS 50/50, and I was NOT getting 50 mbps with Frontier's modem and the WiFi service with the Frontier modem barely worked. I think when the technician tested the internet during set-up, I was getting around 20-30 mbps and he told me that Frontier's infrastructure was not set up yet for 50/50, so I wouldn't be getting the 50 mbps yet. I thought that was a crock of BS, because why advertise it if it's not? Anyway, it was just their crappy router to blame.

When I went out and bought the Linksys and plugged it in and set it up, I got the 50/50 that I pay for, PLUS the WiFi is amazing.

You don't need to call in Frontier if you get the Linksys router. It's just plug in and set up your router name and password, and it'll work. If you know your way around the 192.168.1.1 menu/settings, it'll be really easy to set it up. Be sure to release the DHCP lease from the advanced settings of the Frontier Router first or you'll have to wait like two hours.

In our house, we have 2 gamers, a Roku player, Sling TV, ChromeCast, and some WiFi tablets, so our network is a bit crowded, but there's hardly any lag or congestion that affects anything. :)

EDIT: See my reply below for some speed tests.

If you can step up to the E2500 you'll get both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands. You shouldn't need a modem. You'll connect the internet port directly to your ethernet jack.

A new router seems to be the way to go. By default my router had uPnP on and it still caused a problem. It sucks that its 2016 and companies can't get uPnP correct. Here is my current set up:

Just bought Linksys e2500 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004T9RR4A/ref=dp_olp_refurbished?ie=UTF8&condition=refurbished

Threw tomato firmware on it and its good to go.

I use this router, and its wonderful with DD-WRT.

Install DD-WRT using the instructions on the wiki

Based on how large your house is, you should be able to set up another router as an access point and connect it to your WNR2000 using an ethernet cable.

I use a Linksys E1200 which has been firmwared with DD-WRT so it will work as an access point, but I think that the Linksys E2500 would work better as an access point since it was optimized for multiple users and is also dual band.

Prepare yourself for a slow, screaming death of insanity and scorn if you buy a PCIe WiFi card.

> most Network cards would work with most Motherboards

Sadly not true.

> most Network cards would work

Even that's not really true since there are a ton of crappy cards out there that only work if you find the drivers on some obscure website where all of the text is in Chinese. After you find the drivers, you're going to have either a couple of little antennas on the backside of the computer, or those same antennas on the end of a skinny cable. So, pray that the rear of the computer is situated well for picking up WiFi or pray that those little wires don't get damaged.

Or, just buy an E2500 instead for $30. Put the E2500 in the same room as her computer either on the desk or on a bookshelf, or wherever, and run an ethernet cable from it to the computer. Go into the setup for the E2500 and set it in "Bridge" mode with the DHCP server turned off. Set the E2500's SSID, password, and security type to the same as your existing WiFi network and you're done.

Total cost: $30 plus an ethernet cable, and the connection will be rock solid.

edit: if you want something cuter, get her this instead. Same concept, but smaller.

>How many other wireless devices are on the network?

Wow. I had never realized this was the case. There are several other devices that could be on the network at any given time. The two laptops are wireless N, but the touchpad and either cell phone could be an issue.

Although yesterday morning I bought this router (Linksys e2500), which is dual band, for testing and I experienced the same issues. I returned the router, but I still have a spare router with dd-wrt sitting around that I can set up for general web surfing. I will definitely look into this as a solution. Thanks a lot!

Buy a Linksys E3200 for just about $100 new on eBay. Or buy a Linksys E2500 for $50 refurbished on eBay or $26 more new from Amazon.

Flash it with DD-WRT firmware, instructions for your model can be found on the wiki, to unlock a ton of extra configuration settings. If you don't like it you can always revert to stock firmware or use OpenWRT or Tomato or a modified version of Tomato as alternative firmware.

I have an older E3000 model that was a gift and have been running DD-WRT on it for over a year without any major issues. My particular model will overheat if air can't flow to the bottom of the unit, but it does that even with the most updated stock firmware. I found that turning down the Transmit (TX) Power on the wireless antenna to 28mw helps reduce the heat generated.

As for the Playstation 3 issues, make sure the ports required are properly forwarded. Google it or go to a site such as http://portforward.com/ to find out how to do this.
