I just wanted to mention that I was looking over at Amazon and saw that Civilization V is only $29.99 right now.
See, I was referring to going and buying new items from SMALL STORES on Amazon. Like if you're looking to buy Civ V, going to this page and clicking on one of the small users like Ranger Storefront, droctagon, or tic_tac50.
Also, Wikileaks has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation.
There was a window during the winter 2012 Amazon sale in which if you bought a 2K game, you got a non-transferrable $5 credit for other 2K games. I'm surprised it actually works on this. Dunno what else it works on.
Edit: Doesn't work on Civ 5 Steam key, also on sale for $6 from 2K.

Unfortunately this method doesn't work with Steam, but you can get cheap steam games from amazon
It sucks to live a wealthy country some I guess, lol.

The game felt dumbed-down compared to even Vanilla Civ IV without expansions.
I hated the single unit per hex. I could have supported limits on units in hexes, but single unit was bad. The AI didn't know how to use it either. I hated the auto-embark onto boats feature. I remember units being lost due to this silliness. Empire-wide happiness is ridiculous.
In my opinion, unless you are playing an island map, you should be crushed by the AI at the higher difficulty levels in your first game of a new version of Civ, and I wasn't. After playing it a while, I was just bored.
If you want more, go to Amazon and look at the 1-3 star reviews.

I've seen a bunch of stuff on Civ 5 here recently, don't know shit about it. Is it this game, with 2.5 stars on Amazon? Was thinking about checking it out but didn't want to buy the wrong one (in case I'm missing something here).
I've been going through so many phases of different games. Right now I've been hooked back on civilization IV. If you're looking for a game that you cant just blow through in one day, this is it. You really have to plan a course to run your country perfectly, and if you plan on ruling the world, you better have a long time to play. Imagine a really awesome version of the board game Risk. Civilization IV is exactly why I want Civilization V
You could also get it from Amazon, maybe? Same price as the Steam sale, and it should activate on Steam.

you mentioned Civ 5 being too expensive at 50 bucks, but you can get it for 30 bucks via amazon, for either the physical disk or digital download versions:

I don't know anything about how good amazon's digital service is, but they give you a product key which I used to download the game on steam.
IMO it's a good choice for turn based one handed gaming, and an excellent game (especially if you download a mod which slows down the relative pace of research compared to production)
If you dont have civ 5 yet, I got it last week and am enjoying the hell out of it.
Its on amazon for $21 here
People are upset because this game was hyped up so hard and when it launched, it was imperfect. It had a metacritic user score of like negative twenty on the first day because the midnight launch didn't go very well.
It's not just Diablo 3, it's just about every other hyped up game there ever was, ever. Except Skyrim.
It's not that those games didn't have their flaws, but seriously, "I ONLY PLAYED THIS GAME FOR 300 HOURS, IT IS TERRIBLE AND MADE BY THE WORST GAME STUDIO ON THE PLANET" is getting old.
