This will be buried. Mom's family is old money that lost it in the depression. This is how GGMa and Grandma faked it (Grandma got rich and then went broke again.)
Get a cheap trench coat, and then go to home depot and get a length of ball chain (this stuff https://www.amazon.com/Ball-Chain-Spool-Aluminum-Feet/dp/B005FM92HK) and sew it to the inside of your hems. It's what Chanel jackets have to make them hang/move better, and if you make little loops often it makes no noise.
Then replace the buttons. Anything plastic has to go. Likely the buckle on the trench must go, other than that all belts that come with clothing should be considered a cruel joke and discarded immediately.
You can make a $5 thrift-ed trench coat look and move like a $500 coat with those two steps.
I have hot pink trench coat that I love that I need to do this to, for the black skinny jeans/simple blouse/color pop coat combo. It is from Lane Bryant, though, and it's got cheap shitty buttons and hangs like hell but with half an hour and a minor amount of work, it'll look like a million bucks.
Ball chain.
The downstairs needs more acoustic treatment! So does the upstairs!
On a more serious note - not to say I wasn't previously serious - I would suggest simply moving the computer further to the left. Try and get it as close to center between the long walls as you can. That will help immensely with your stereo imaging. You've got the right design so far by firing your monitors down the long dimension of the room, and by having them well spaced from the wall behind them.
It even looks like the distance from the wall behind the user of the computer is well above 10' away. Diffusion. These designs are among the best diffusers a DIY could hope for, but they're a lot of work. Making any diffuser is, really. All about that time-cost ratio.
As for the ceiling... Is that corrugated metal, or thin strips of wood? Eh, that doesn't really matter. Either way, you're probably gonna want to find some way to put broadband absorption up there. The hardwood floors are amazing for recording and mixing - the ceiling not so much. If you're ever gonna mic up that kit with overheads, you'll absolutely need absorption above it all. Nasty, horrid comb filtering happens otherwise. Same thing at your listening position in your chair. You would ideally, for what the dimensions of your room appear to be, want a nice cloud above the chair, extending back to above the monitors.
This is an excellent write-up on how to build broadband absorbers for very little cost, other than initial tool investment. They're extremely light compared to their wood framed counterparts. I wouldn't even shy away from building them 6" thick instead of 4". It looks like you've got the room. You can also somewhat modify the tutorial to build the corner "superchunk" bass trap frames out of the same material, reducing the weight on those significantly.
Fabric upholstered couches would act as excellent bass traps with a bit of low-mid absorption. Couches finished in a non-breathable material such as leather are still going to get that bass absorption - to a lesser extent - but reflect a ton of high frequencies.
Yes to floor lamps.
Sorry for the massive wall of text, but you had a few question marks there. Cheers!
jack chainthat you hot glue to the magnets, and hook through eyelets you install into the back of your panels. This is assuming your panels are relatively light. If you don't have a ladder, certainly somebody you know does. That's some straight up homoerotic shit in that picture. I'll bet that chain goes down his pants into a little lasso so you can lead him around by his nutsack. Maybe that's why they call it ball chain
What about like a snake wiring track?
I'm thinking like this. That's what Caravans use at the bottom of their sliding doors and they (usually) work for years and years and thousands of opens and closes.
This chick made a power drawer in her Harbor Freight toolbox, she used the snake wiring like I was talking about. You can see a glimpse of it in image 66, but sadly, she doesn't really talk about the wiring much.
How is it a dog collar? And who is using it as a dog collar? Every two links are static and do not bend. Probably shouldn't own a dog if that's being used for its collar.

Even better are some copper chains. https://www.amazon.com/COOPER-TOOLS-NICHOLSON-0880844-CARBON/dp/B001D4A17O/
Here you go.

I use this stupid hard chain covered in an old mountain bike tube with a [fancy titanium alloy lock] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G7P3FYA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It's much more bang for your buck than a krytonite or some other ludicrously expensive "bike chain".
It's kinda overkill really but I was super nervous about theft when I moved into the city.

P.S. I'm stealing your username for an /r/bandnames submission.
With something that big you probably want some wire drag chain.
When you say moving "in broken halting steps" that does suggest to me that the motor is working but does not have enough torque to turn. That could be that the wheels are too tight on the makerslide or that the motor is not getting enough current, but only look into that after you are sure the wiring is Aok.
yeah. to rotate the blinds youd have to figure out how to drive the center rod in the track(stepper with some sort of interface gear). Or, possibly set it up on a coil cord with a cable running through it, or a cable chain.
To retract the curtains youll have to run your own pullys and cables.
Might be worth it to just replace them with a unit that can be modified(chain and rope on the side). If youre renting, just ask the manager to have maintenance take the existing one down(or take it down yourself and stuff it in a closet).

Remove the shitty base. You don’t need it any more. Hang the fan with 3 pieces of stainless chain into the ceiling with a washer and good strong screw. All you'll then need is an s hook at the bottom each piece of chain, which will hook around the front edge of the fan, or the black drum part. Think equidistant 1,2,3.

I have a Printrbot Simple Metal, and I replaced its crappier cable sleeve with a cable chain like all other high-end 3D printers:
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Plastic-Chain-Carrier-Router/dp/B00880AVL2. The Play's sleeve is really nice quality, and all you have to do is route a stiff wire from under the base and up through the sleeve.
Insanity is not using cable-chain so you can slide those servers in and out without unplugging everything every time.

Our team uses a cable carrier for the prismatic part of the arm. It is very clean:

In addition to this, consider a cable guide (typically used in CNC type equipment) for your power and network cables that go to the wall.. https://www.amazon.com/Black-Plastic-Chain-Carrier-Router/dp/B00880AVL2?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0
I'm using a 3.2 mm ball chain. I don't know what minimum length is required, but as you can see from my videos the leaping effect gets stronger as it goes, and I would guess that a chain as short as about 10 m would be difficult to see.
This is the exact chain I got, but I doubt it is so very sensitive that you need that chain.
No magnetism is required: there is no magnet in my setup.
