Best tobacco pipe screens according to redditors

For a glass pipe you want a "glass pipe screen". You can use metal ones but I would advise against them.

But...I take some of these bad boys right here and push it through the center, then drop them into the hole of the pipe. (Some bending may be required) This will ensure you never lose the screen when you blow out the ash. I personally believe that every hit is 10X as smooth with a metal filter, and eliminates the worry of sucking too hard and pulling ash into my mouth/bong.


Now, 10 other people below me are probably going to say "Screens are worthless, you don't 'need' a screen" and they're perfectly right.
But I enjoy to smoke my way, and them, their way.
My recommendation is to try it both ways and you decide.

I would call these a "wind cap" as most people think of these when you say "pipe screen."

I'm glad you're the OP because I'm baked and forgot how to pm someone, and I wanted you to see this. I just had a thought of something that would solve this problem for you. If you don't want to spend any money, a small pebble will do the job just fine.

Those are glass "jack" or "flower" screens for a (weed) pipe or bong slide. Better than metal screens, more easily cleaned and clog less. The silicone container is usually used to store cannabis concentrates.

I believe they're called glass filters. They look like 4-5 tiny little glass beads joined together in a floral formation. They're designed to be used with the snap bong bowls that are practically tubes where your weed will just fall through. My thought is that if you put one in a regular bowl, it will just take up some space and work like normal.

Also, they're cheap as hell. I'll see if I can find some online.

Don't go overboard. Just buy a $10-20 spoon pipe, a nice grinder(this and this are both good ones in different styles), and an eighth of some good weed. Don't go overboard immediately. If you want a bong just get it off DHgate or bongoutlet.ca (most of the bongs you'll find in headshops are the same exact pieces for 500% more). If you want to get a vape the Arizer solo is amazing for $120 and the MFLB is decent for $80. Since it's a legal state there's really no reason to bother with joints unless you really like them. Any papers / grinders / rollers you can get on amazon really cheaply.

Also get some of these screens for the bowls, they basically stop all weed from getting sucked in

You can also get them in the hardware store for faucets in various sizes.

Form it into a cup by molding it over the end of a AAA battery then trim the edges even so it sits inside the glass cup- you're golden!

I didn't try hitting it dry, but it tasted fine? I'm guessing having it heated max for 36 minutes (12 minutes alone + 12 minutes with each stem) was probably good enough? Should I be worried?

Also - I did maybe 7 or 8 hits and I didn't suck up a single bit of weed. I guess I don't even need a screen? Maybe my grinder grinds it big enough or it's sticky enough or something? I'll order some anyway just in case.

The screens are great at keeping your piece really clean, especially if you have a bong or bubbler. I started using screens when my piece broke like your gf's did, but I use them now in every piece I own.

It's an all natural cleaner, best I've ever used. After you've used a screen for a couple days and it gets gunky, just toss it in a shot glass with this cleaner. After a week or two, after you've gone through ~10-15 screens, dump the cleaner back into the bottle (it's reusable, like 20x or more reusable) and the screens are clean as when you bought them. It works on pipes, too. Just pour it in at night, and dump it out the next morning, and you piece will be perfectly clean. It's a little expensive, but like I said, it's reusable. I'm a heavy smoker, and I've been using the same bottle for almost a year now.

I prefer these brass ones. I tend to lose the glass ones, these you can bend the edges and flex them into place.

Maybe you could fashion your own caps for these, I think they are supposed to fit in the arizer stems but haven't tried them myself yet.

What's the advantage of a screen? I haven't been using anything and it's been fine so far.

If you're talking about making the tophats fit properly I have the same issue with some of mine too, I used the rounded end of a portable screwdriver to push the screens out a bit, it's also not an exact science. I find my XL8R stems are a bit tighter and they fit perfect but the straight stems that came with my Splinter are bigger and not a tight fit unless I really shove the edges of the screen out.


As for double screen method, I think you're talking about this? I took some pictures a while back of my setup. This was with a tophat screen I dismembered so its a bit janky.

I have since picked up some standard 5/8ths inch or just under 16mm (15.6mm) wide screens LIKE THIS from my local dispensary. I think I got 10 for like .35 cents or something stupid cheap.

They fit in the neck of my stems just perfectly. It takes a little finagling to get them down in there and flat but once they're in there they don't come out easily.

I use the older rimless screens right now but I do have a bunch of different screens from things like my lil bud, tubo and ebay. I've used them all and theres really not much difference between the rimless vs rimmed screens, stuff like inner stem diameter matters way more, I do have some half circle screens that are kinda weird. These amazon screens are nearly identical to stock and you get a ton for under 6 bucks

You can find similar mesh for pipes. If you know of a shop where they sell tobacco/pipes they’ll probably have little mesh filters. (Prevents ash from coming through the pipe to the smokers mouth) They’re mesh circles the size of a dime or nickle. You usually get a bunch for just a dollar or two - you can layer them till you get the desired effect!

I use these. They're better than the flat circular ones in my opinion. They don't break apart and they're not poky. Its super easy to clean your piece if you use these, and they're really easy to clean at the same time as your piece in alcohol + salt. I found them because Amazon has a lot of pipes made out of rocks which are actually cheap / cool. Sturdy too, and I drop things a lot. I even saw a smoke shop nearby selling the same pieces for $40 haha.

I love screens because you don't lose half the bowl.

The glass ones are good but you have to pack smaller than normal bowls and you can't really press the herb down into the bowl as much.

I've used these ones and they work just as good if not better but with less clogging.
