Get a rubber strap wrench. $5 at Harbor Freight, $18.23 @Amazon.

Just don't buy the nylon ones as they aren't worth a plug nickel, IMO. They are impossible to get tight enough to get friction in my experience but the rubber one I have would have that thing off/tight in a jiffy.

Everyone should own a strap wrench anyway.

If you ever need to do any PVC work or have large or irregular fittings to remove/tighten, they are a Godsend.

Edit:

Here is a set of 2 Craftsman strap wrenches from Amazon that are highly rated for $18.23 shipped w Prime.

Here is a set of 2 from Harbor Freight for $4.99 + tax.

I'd recommend investing the extra $13 to get the Craftsman set as you'll be able to use them for many years to come. The HF ones are included in case you are just in need of getting this one fitting tight and are not worried about long term value, or if money is overwhelmingly the determining factor. Good luck. You can do this.

use a cheater bar to wedge it against the ground.

For super stubborn pieces that get stuck, I have used something similar to these in the past: https://www.amazon.com/Craftsman-Rubber-Strap-Wrench-Set/dp/B00K92810A

I use these. The rubber straps grip really well, and since it's a two pack I can use both at the same time.

It just unscrews like the shower head. You can use a normal wrench and a cloth to keep it from scratching. I had a strap wrench so I used that. https://www.amazon.com/Craftsman-Rubber-Strap-Wrench-Set/dp/B00K92810A/ref=pd_bxgy_469_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00K92810A&pd_rd_r=8BGVY4F0WKXZHHNGZM7C&pd_rd_w=0UdiR&pd_rd_wg=RICaC&psc=1&refRID=8BGVY4F0WKXZHHNGZM7C

Also some Teflon tape to wrap on the threads.

Get a good leather belt or thick web style wrap it around and pull against like you would tighten it on yourself. Works every time and you don't end up spilling too much oil everywhere. Or if you have access to something similar to this

Hi there, amateur DIYer here. I'd personally recommend an "rubber strap wrench" or "oil filter wrench", something like this:

From my experience those help with removing diffcult nuts.

Needless backstory - A couple years ago I went through replacing all of the flush and fill valves at my house with quieter alternatives. These wrenches helped me a lot with removing the old flush valve nuts. YMMV though.

I use plumber wrenches to not destroy parts when something like this happens: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K92810A/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_old_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Oh.... that changes things... now, you don't have much clearance, but a "strap wrench" might work too, assuming you have to rotate the blue bit.

To clarify, you're trying to unscrew the head from the body tube?

I used these strap wrenches from amazon. I was able to unscrew the parts fairly easily with two strap wrenches without having to apply any heat. Maybe trying another set of strap wrenches might help?

Good luck and let me know how things go!

Luckily there's a few options to make those damn pickle jars open easier.

If the last link can't get it open you have just found an indestructible pickle jar :)

After TM attached the head to the piston assembly they glued a little plastic circle over the screw head. If you are lucky you can unscrew the piston head with a small strap wrench while holding the spring.

If you are unlucky the piston head will spin on the screw that secures it to the piston weight/spring inside the piston. If that happens you have to cut the plastic from the center of the head to access the screw. It's less hassle to just get a SHS piston and head to install.
