Well doesn't really guarantee you that, tips of wires oxidize and stop being conductive.

Eg after 3 days in salt water:
https://youtu.be/E0dBCeOPw4c?t=212

Reads ~1v out of water, cleans contacts and reads ~3v, puts nail through and you can see it venting.. probably not enough energy to ignite though so maybe good enough.

FWIW for $5 I just bought a box of these: https://amzn.com/7542904760 Can stick them on XT60, or can discharge half a pack at a time using balance lead: http://i.imgur.com/L3Rwe63.jpg Typically its like damage pack, put bulb on end of xt60, leave it on front/back patio (it'll be bring and slowly dim, even when its no longer making any light current is still flowing), next day go get it verify its discharged <1v with multimeter (check pack and each cell w/balance lead), cut off connector and short wires together and add it to pile of dead lipos to bring to recycling place.

You can do it with a hand dimmer.

Get a 650w dimmer, wire it in line with the socket. Done.

You can also get a “Magic Gadget” flicker box. Most rental houses have them.

Something like these https://www.amazon.com/Dimmable-Halogen-Candelabra-Chandeliers-Lighting/dp/B07RZQ5W71

Get a candelabra socket, some zip cord and go to town.

Hand dinners are available at most home improvement stores.

PSA don’t touch the glass part, especially when lit. Might be hot ish.

Some kind of halogen. Should say on the base, maybe.

Looks to be called a G9. Just get the right wattage.

u/tankflykev · 3 pointsr/homeowners

Well there’s your problem.

> AC/DC 12V, 5 Watts,

In your OP you mentioned 120v.
These are 12v. It’s actually pretty unusual to see 120v versions of these, they’re usually GU10 fitting at that voltage so your confusion is understandable.

The fact you’ve put 10x the voltage though the bulb is almost certainly the reason for it turning projectile.
Get 120v bulbs . Problem solved. You’re welcome.

Edit: formatting.
Edit 2: FYI, I doubt you’ll find 120v LED lights for this, I expect you’re stuck with halogen.

Those halogen bulbs draw a lot of power. Example bulb.

So you plug your battery in and these six bulbs will light up and empty the battery relatively quickly. The fan will keep things cool because those bulbs get hot.

If you plug it into a charger/discharger it will take like an hour or more as most charger/dischargers can really discharge at very low wattage.

Looks like a setup for a halogen bulb. Is there a model number on the lamp anywhere?

Edit: YX032 (number on the socket) http://en.09635.com/pd/6029945/G9-Halogen-Lampholder-Ceramic-Lamp-Holder-with-VDE-cUL-CQC-Certficate-YX032-B4-.htm uses a G9 halogen lamp with a ceramic base. A 60 Watt bulb can be found on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/CBConcept-Brand-Halogen-120Volt-60Watt/dp/7801032314 or do a web search. They do come in less watts too.

Edit 2: Note, that bulb is frosted. Any halogen with a g9 base should work. You don't have to use a ceramic base bulb. Just wanted to clarify.

Thank you and everyone else in this thread for their great suggestions! I'm going to save up for the nobsound amp and tubes. One more question: https://www.amazon.com/General-Electric-GE-Electron-Vacuum/dp/B0195UWJG8 Is there any reason I shouldn't buy these tubes as supposed to the Riverstone audio ones?

u/vercing3torix · 1 pointr/electrical

I haven't been using gloves because the bulbs themselves are enclosed in a plastic (or glass?) housing. See link below. There is no dimmer--just a switch (although I think the bulbs are designed to be dimmable).

For reference, the bulbs seem to be the same as these: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Landscape-Dimmable-Bundle-Decostar/dp/B07Q71WNQY/

So I went to Home Depot and all the bulbs for 120v have a different set of prongs that plug in. Only the 12v has the same connection piece.

If you're looking for something hot enough for a bearded dragon, I'm currently using this type of bulb: https://www.amazon.com/75R111-GU10-FL-75-Watt-Reflector/dp/B01NBAEWKP . It has the lowest profile of any flood style basking bulb I've used so far. You'll probably need some soldering experience to set up a gu10 socket though if you want it to be as low profile as possible. I've seen fluorescent bulb ballasts at hardware stores.

u/fragglepated · 1 pointr/DIY

I believe it's these. amazon.com/Simba-Lighting-Halogen-Bi-Pin-Shorter/dp/B01N5P4ZHI?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B01N5P4ZHI
I'm not where I can look at the moment but will do so.

u/thefirstjoe · 1 pointr/BeardedDragons

So you're saying this would be fine?

u/Gungyver · 1 pointr/handtools

no but i can say they are plug and twist bulbs, ghhaaa i just look quickly on amazon.

thsi is the bulb i need to get out and replace. http://smile.amazon.com/Triangle-Bulbs-T10293-6-pack-Halogen/dp/B005BYZ2PI/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1459181262&sr=1-8&keywords=halogen+light

chain of low wattage halogen bulbs is what I use in my arboreal monitor lizard enclosure. 8 of them total wired in pairs. You will probably need 4-5.

Few benefits to this setup: you can individually dim each pair to fine tune temperature. You can individually replace bulbs in each pair to fine tune even more(for summer I replace some with low heat leds). You can also automate each pair to go on/off at certain time to emulate dusk/dawn. Chain of lower wattage lights doesn't affect humidity as much.

Here is how it looks in my enclosure. It is evening, so most of the lights are off for the night.

All you need for that is piece of plywood, number of inexpensive ceramic lamp holders, and 35 watt lensed flood halogen bulbs.

u/drtonmeister · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I'm betting if you tug on it (to separate the two rectangular ceramic blocks) you will find that it is a g9 wedge base, just a ceramic base where most g9 halogen bulbs would be glass all the way down

Question for you - why do you think that's similar? I need to figure out how to convey that to people. You're the third person to google that lamp and show it. It would really help me out if you told me exactly what made you think they were comparable.

___

To respond to your question:

It is not the same, at all. It's like comparing a night light to a light bulb. Or it's like a single lightbulb vs opening a window on a bright day.

That lamp is 3000 lumens, this one is 7000 lumens, and when you experience it, it feels like much more than twice the light. It has no dimming options really, pretty much just on and off. And the lighting casts shadows and is uneven. I have that lamp, it broke and I had to tape it together.

That lamp is compared in the page I linked to, take a look. It's hard to clearly convey through an image.

The 6000 lumen halogen lamps were the most popular floor lamps ever. When they were banned in the mid-90s, they were allowed to have a 3000 lumen halogen bulb. No one bought those, because they provided very little light, like the one you're showing. No lamp has gone over 3000 lumens for 20 years.

Try it yourself - buy a 180w halogen floor lamp with a legal 3000 lumen bulb, and then buy a 300w, 6000 lumen bulb, and compare. Anyone who experienced those lamps in the mid-90s would know what I'm talking about. Many people wondered where they went.

On the home depot website I only see T3, T4 and T5 under "Light Bulb Shape Code". Does that mean if I bring it in to Home Depot they'll say that they don't have anything which matches?

I just searched Amazon for type T2.5 and it gave me a type T2.5 at 300 watts at https://www.amazon.com/GE-19379-300-Watt-5950-Lumen-Recessed/dp/B00006IBF4/ , but when I pick the "100 watt" or "150 watt" options then the product changes into "Type T3" instead. Does this mean that Type T2.5 becomes T3 at low wattage? Or are they different types of bulb such that T3 will not work in place of a T2.5?

thanks.

I once created a star effect for a dream sequence by dangling thin-gauge electrical cord with these bulbs soldered on the end. They were dangling in front of a dark set so really weren't visible at all. I had each bulb wired to one channel of the 8 channel DMX relay board shown here so I could turn the lights on as an actor pointed up at each one.

If you don't want to spend the money on a relay board like that you could just run wires to a bank of switches and turn them on/off manually.
