u/cypherfox has a list of Canadian retailers. Not being Canadian myself, I don't know many.

Start with the most important thing: Face protection. Eye protection is always required for airsoft. Something ANSI Z87.1+ or higher impact rating. Could go with something cheap like Pyramex I-force or go with something really high end like Smith Optics Turbo Fan. I've also liked my Save Phace Grunts, but they do scratch easily. For lower face protection, the One Tigris mask is pretty standard. Comfortable solid protection. Could also rig something up with a Steel Mouth which doesn't provide as much protection but, in my opinion, looks nicer. If you think he'd prefer a full face mask, the Dye I4 is fantastic.

After that, I'd prioritize boots. I'm not much of an expert on these. I like my Merrel MOAB Mids. I've also heard good things about Salomon and Lowa. Just something with some decent ankle support.

After that, look into a carrying case for your gun. You could use the box it came in, but that's not really ideal. Personally I use a valken gun bag and have had no issues with my M4 and AK. Could also go with a hard case like a Plano.

Then you're getting into less important stuff. Load bearing gear, like a chest rig, plate carrier, or belt, is nice to have but not required. They're used to carry whatever. Magazines, water, food, tools, extra batteries, whatever. I'm not really sure what the market for that is like in Canada, but Condor is a good budget brand with plenty of styles.

Other than that, I can recommend Mechanix Gloves and Howard Leight Impact Sport

Without your actual budget and knowing exactly what he has or what he wants, I can't really get more specific or recommend much else.

  1. Yours IS a genuine concern. Anxiety is a real, well-documented medical condition. And it sucks, for real. No more "silly" than diabetes -- we don't shout at people for not digesting sugar approriately and you should not feel guilty for anxiety.

  2. Your employers should also be sensitive to your condition, even if he weren't related to you.

  3. Congrats on having the supportive partner.

  4. Remaining on the shop floor during a breakdown/attack seems like an unreasonable responsibilty. I presume you're permitted bathroom breaks? That's usually what I do to get away while I'm at work.

  5. Sunglasses are a second option for the floor -- something wrap-around, that can obscure your eyes if you've been crying. (I have Julbo Sherpa's. http://www.amazon.com/Julbo-Sherpa-Mountain-Sunglasses-Spectron/dp/B001O0DN4U)

  6. Hang in there. And try not to be so hard on yourself. There is a difference between addressing your anxiety responsibly and beating yourself up for no good reason.

This thread got me thinking of Rain-X and how well it works on car windshields. A little cursory googling revealed that it's not as great on sunglasses but that there are similar products out there.

Oakley makes a hydrophobic coating for glasses. Not cheap but the reviews seem positive.

My rain glasses were only ten bucks, so I think I'll risk using Rain-X even though it's not specifically intended to be used for the task. Be careful using it on expensive glasses though, some people warn of possible damage.

I actually do need new sunglasses because I am working out outside all the time, and my current ones are starting to get way too scratched up.

I'm nominating /u/mewfasa because I know she needs a new colander.

edit: I forgot the raffle phrase... my bad... I don't need double talk, I need

u/downvote_syndrome · 3 pointsr/bicycling

I was considering these. I only have a pair of regular sunglasses for cycling at the moment. They aren't goggles, but should shield a lot of wind.

u/CaseyDoran · 3 pointsr/Stargate

I got these a few years back for a Jack costume. They're pretty decent but I turned out to need prescription sunglasses so they're just on the shelf now. Good for fishing on occasion though.

u/chadcf · 2 pointsr/shutupandtakemymoney

I have this pair which run a whopping $16. Do the job fine, I like the more wraparound style. They're not what I would call super tough so I wouldn't sit on them or toss them around, but they seem at least as sturdy as every other pair of cheap sunglasses I've had.

u/magnumstg16 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Got these UnderArmour Hammers during an amazon lightening deal for $40, been wearing them ever since

u/nateyboy22 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm assuming these are the classic clubmasters. They make a slightly smaller version of these called the "new clubmaster" and they'd probably fit your face better. The model is RB 2156.

As the others said, layers. The three things I'd suggest getting are:

  1. a layered winter jacket. This is generally something like a fleece jacket that zips inside a waterproof shell. You wear both layers when it's winter to keep warm and dry; the rest of the year, you can separate the layers and wear the inner jacket to keep warm or the outer jacket to keep dry, as needed.

While I rarely bothered in upstate NY, you might also consider silk thermal underwear. You can wear it underneath your clothes for another layer of warmth if needed and it doesn't add much bulk or restrict movement, which is nice.

  2. boots. You're going to have to shovel snow, and you'll want to wear boots while doing it. While it's nice, they don't have to be waterproof. Pick up some thick winter socks while you're at the boot store. If your boots are thin or you're going to spend a lot of time in them, consider getting a pair of winter liner socks, which can help keep your feet warm and dry.

  3. gloves or mittens. Again, you'll be shoveling snow; in this case, you'll definitely want something waterproof. My personal favourites (and, actually, the favourite of my entire extended family after I bought everyone a pair) are these Gordini Aquabloc mittens. The velcro keeps it snug around your wrist; the knitted bit on the wrist tucks nicely into your jacket, so snow doesn't go up your sleeve or down your hand; and OMG they're warm! They also apparently make them in gloves as well, but I've never tried them.

Other winter advice for upstate New York: get the tread on your tires checked before your first winter there, and check whether your battery needs replacing. And in our car, we always carried an ice scraper, a big bag of kitty litter, a snow shovel, a car charger for the cell phone and the phone number for AAA. (Even if you're not a member, carry the AAA number for your area. If you get stuck, you can call them, sign up for a membership over the phone and immediately ask them to send a truck out to you.)

There're a bunch of other recommendations for stuff to store in your car during winter -- blanket, food, water, those little chemical heaters you can 'break' open, etc. And none of those are a bad idea. But for us the very minimum were things to get us out of the snow if we got stuck, and to call for help if needed.

Finally, if you wear glasses in real life, consider getting a pair of Solar Shield sunglasses (the link is for grey lenses, but they also come in blue, orange, etc). At times, you'll be outside when it's snowing or drifting. The drops will get on your glasses and then you'll find yourself trying to clean your glasses while wearing gloves and winter clothing. Not fun. The solar shield glasses are worn right over your regular glasses, so you can pop them on before you go out and take them off when you get inside. They also do a nice job of blocking sunglare from the sides and overhead.

I hope you enjoy the snow! :)

Alie Express has loads of "fOakley" Jawbreakers for sale. As long as yo do your research you should be able to find a decent pair.

Or just get these like I did. Although I am 90% these are just Alike Express glasses for another $10.

u/oakandleaf · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I just purchased these sunglasses on Amazon because I really like the shape and the price is great, but now I'm worried that these are dated looking. The white is just so bold. Thoughts?

u/NotthatFLman · 2 pointsr/running

Are you just wearing regular sunglasses or exercise sunglasses? I have a pair of Tifosi sunglasses that don't slide; the only trouble is having to take them off every mile to wipe the sweat out of my eyes, eyebrows and forehead.

u/Karmakerosene · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A hat that will keep the sun out of your face - The sun is not your friend. Sunny days may be beautiful, but they're dangerous! As you know, sun is pretty bad for your eyes and skin. So be sure to be wearing a hat that will shade your face. Also, in addition to the hat, don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses.

As a pale-skinned person, I have learned to do all I can to protect myself. Sunburn is no fun at all! But even if you don't burn and only tan, it's still not good for you.

Well, here's to a sunburn-free vacation! Cheers!

u/Sieberella · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hey! I live there! It's an awesome place! :) You are definitely going to need some sunglasses and sunblock. The sun is wicked strong here and you'll get a headache if you're outside in the sun too long without them. And I always take a roll of TP with me for road trips, you never know when you're going to need a quick stop! Thanks for the contest!

Get something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/RIVBOS-POLARIZED-Sports-Sunglasses-Interchangeable/dp/B00JB339N2/ref=lp_2474995011_1_18?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1450625952&sr=1-18&nodeID=2474995011

If you wear glasses that don't wrap far enough, you will get a lot of wind on your eyes. Having them dry up is pretty normal. You could also get some eye drops - saline ones.

They also protect your eyes from dust and other debris that can get kicked up. I got a shard of iron stuck in my cornea and I was wearing prescription glasses (not as bad as it sounds). The shard just went over them.

Do some research. You can get these on Alibaba for about $10. They come with 4 or 5 lenses, a hard case, lens wipe, etc. Mine have lasted about a year and a half with no scratches.

If you order em from Alibaba be prepared to wait 30-60 days for delivery.

u/atikamarie · 1 pointr/cycling

I bought set similar to this... (shooting glasses actually, there wasn't a big bike selection at the time) They don't sell the ones I bought anymore. If I buy a new set, I'm going to try for polarized.

u/turkish112 · 1 pointr/airsoft

Your goggles cost $180. What kind of cheap assholes do you play with who can't afford a $200 primary? Well, I suppose you do have it better than me- the closest place that I'm aware of to play is ~3 hours one way.

u/SoCaFroal · 1 pointr/MTB

Shorts with liner, gloves, multi-tool, spare inner-tube, and maybe a pair of glasses, a set of tire levers, pump or C02, and a wicking T-shirt from any retailer.

That's what I started out with at least.

u/GlitterDonuts · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

K so these 2 are actually less then 100 and one of them has the option to be in the $100 range

/u/cheeseburger_humper is probably one of the sweetest most supportive person on here. He is like sickeningly sweet. I almost want to punch him in the face for being so positive. He reminds me of Chris for Parks and Rec because he never has a negative thing to say and it's pretty annoying. I think these would be perfect for him because he is into fitness and I bet these would allow him to go for runs outdoors or do other outdoor activities and protect his eyes.

u/mauimixed · 1 pointr/trees

go ahead and check out my adventure and leave an upvote, please :B But thanks ! I like my shades too. 5$ on Amazon

Julbo Sherpas are fantastic. I bought them for climbing, but they are great for any outdoor stuff. They stay on really well, are cheap (you can usually find them for 30 dollars somewhere), and block a ton of light for people with sensitive eyes like me. Also, the leather sidepieces are removable if the peripheral vision issue worries you.

u/asciiaardvark · 1 pointr/CampingGear

[These](https://www.amazon.com/my favorite sunglasses/dp/B001O0DN4U) "glacier" glasses are my favorite I've ever tried. The leather wrap-around shade really helps in extra-bright conditions making them better than normal sunglasses. But they're not a complete seal so they're still breathable, unlike goggles so my eyes don't sweat in the summer.

I mostly wear them at Burning Man & Frostburn (February burn in PA/WV area), but they're also light enough that I sometimes wear them with steampunk gear at cons.

u/SirElkarOwhey · 1 pointr/AskMen

I broke mine in Florida and my dad loaned me a pair of those fit-over-your-glasses sunglasses that old people in Florida wear. (These: http://www.amazon.com/Solar-Shield-Fits-Over-Sunglasses/dp/B000TJQPVA .)

I liked them so much I bought a pair myself. My eyes just feel so much more relaxed on sunny days when they aren't getting blinded from the side. (I guess old people learn a few things over the years.)

u/Costco_Law_Degree · 1 pointr/space

I think what you are referring to are solar shields.

u/FrailRain · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

What's more summer that a giant yellow ball of explosion blinding you all day long? :D

I don't like being blinded....BINGO!

Those look like clubmasters with prescription lenses. The wide known brand for those is "Ray-ban" here
