It’s on amazon as well, exact same, only it’s 22.99$

Here it is

>In other words, they aren't horrible as a primary HT either. Just like a Corolla isn't as comfortable as a Lincoln, but both will get you where you want to go.

Word. It's a hell of a little radio and it will do the full 8. I also got (and recommend) the AAA battery case for it with energizer lithium batteries. It lasts FOREVER, they aren't going to leak, and they weigh nothing. This is the holder I bought, but they say it's out of stock https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KI35C3O

For my non-GR-events ruck I use a 5.11 Radio Pouch on one side and a Vanquest Hydra Water Bottle Holder on the other.

The Radio pouch is great for a radio, of course, but also for a surprising number of rectangular things like USB batteries. The Vanquest is very nice because it can collapse nearly flat against your ruck when you're not using it and it can expand to fit nearly any size bottle.

During events, I use no pouches or external anything. No need, no desire. Clean and streamlined.

OK, so I think I'll be keeping my rucking setup simple to keep Cadre happy. That being said, here's my hiking setup with a TH-D74 (or any HT) in case anyone comes along in the future. (In both cases below, I'm routing the external mic/speaker up to my shoulder.)

If you don't anticipate rain/wetness, just use an external radio pouch. I use this one mounted to the side of my GR1: 5.11 Radio Pouch

If you're looking for something more discreet (ask me about that one time walking by the White House with a small HT visibly hanging off my bag -- lasers in my face and lots of stern looks) or water resistant, I'm burying the HT deep inside the bag and using this to mount the antenna externally:

I got a radio harness with a pocket on the front to fit notepads or whatever I need. Also has two pencil holding flaps. Might be a bit small compared to a regular hunting or fishing vest but I really only need it to hold compass notepad pens flashlight and radio.

I put some foam in the top and bottom of the big case, and cut a slit down the smaller case to allow the sticks to stick out. The pouch in the front is big enough for the charger. It could, perhaps, fit a spare battery or 2 instead.

Would post more pictures but imgur is being weird.

I agree with /u/Arabethel with getting the ham license. There's little excuse not to at least do the "ham in a day" class. You'll gain comfort being legal, and allow yourself to practice before you need it.

Plus, you can amaze your friends with your very own really cool call sign! All the cool kids have one! /s

That being said, I have a few of the Boefang UV-5R radios. If you pick one up, I might also suggest the programming cable (allowing you to easily enter all the NOAA weather, local emergency, FRS/GMRS, and local repeaters as "presets"). And because this is /r/SHTF, I'd also recommend the AA battery adapter, so when the rechargeable takes a dive, you can fall-back on scavenged/backup AA batteries.

I highly recommend an electronic torque wrench.
The mechanical ones are very inaccurate at the bottom end of range. Head bolts are often at the bottom or below what they can even be set to.

I use this one and it works amazingly well. It can accurately go down to 3ftlb. You can set the desired torque and it has a beep alarm as you approach, reach, and go over the threshold. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VYUKTC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also recommend flying with a very basic set of tools. I fly with some hex keys and wrench that fits all the sizes on my paramator. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F512F74/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Radio chest harness. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007HJKSG8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I added a draw cord to attach my phone to. Phone then tucks into the velcro pocket and is secured by one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H4E9Z6O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's powerful enough to draw in a medium weight phone.

Radio: I recommend the FT60 or FT65. The 60 model is tried and true and can also be modded to RX aviation band. FT65 has newer display and is cheaper having been made in China.

You could try finding someone that knows how to sew and see if they can add an inner pocket or you can laugh at the crazy-looks you'll get..
One <> New chest pocket and enjoy the knowledge that you could carry a small vape shop if you wanted.
