I have dozens of tips. Here are a few:

  • Wooden hangers. Seriously. Get rid of your shitty-ass wire and plastic hangers, and invest in something decent. You will thank me. Stack them on a shelf when not hanging an item.

  • Only wear the dress clothes when you're working. Take them off as soon as you come home.

  • Have 2 identical pairs of black shoes, and 2 pairs of brown shoes. This lets them "rest" a day between wears.

  • Same above rule, but for black / brown belts. Get good ones.

  • If you find a shirt that looks good, buy 6 of them.

  • As they get dirty, move them to a dry clean category in the closet. Don't wad them up -- hang them up on your wooden hangers.

  • Professional laundry only. The only time it pays to iron is in a hotel room.

  • Tie Grenades are what I call the travel containers for ties. Best for flying with dress clothes.

  • "Shirt Shuttle" is good for having a fresh shirt in your car or carry-on.

  • Polish them shoes, muthafucka.

  • Only buy shoes that cost $100+.

  • Shoe rubbers are a must for the winter salt. A MUST.

  • All watches, tie bars, cuff links, etc. go in their own place. If you take them off not in your house, have a special pocket in your briefcase for them.

  • If you carry a gun (American here), don't do it every day with your suit. It wears holes in your suit pants. Carry in your briefcase.

  • When you get to a hotel, take your shirts out and hang in the bathroom. Turn off the fan, and run hot shower for 20 minutes with the door closed. Some wrinkles will come out.

  • Metal collar stays are cheap and effective. (But get buzzed by TSA magnetic wands, FYI.)

  • Medium starch.

  • Custom-made shirts are best, if you can afford.

  • BOGO at Men's Wearhouse and Joseph A Banks are great for ties, but their suits are cheap. You should have a couple of nicer custom suits if you can afford them.

  • Ditch the closet rack for ties. They are obnoxious because the ties hang over each other. Get one (or more) that mount on the wall in a row.

  • Life is too short to have ties you don't wear. Ditch them.

  • Same goes for shirts. If you don't feel good when you put them on, throw them out.

  • Tie pins put holes in your ties. Use tie bars instead.

  • Cheap black gloves, cheap black scarf, because you'll probably leave them somewhere.

I got one of those hanging storage things for my dorm and it worked like a charm! Since we had zero space this was the perfect solution- my roommate loved it so much she ended up getting one too! haha

Shoe box? I couldn't resist, for the moment that is where my jewelry resides. But I would do an image search and look at storage options that will suit your needs. Maybe search by each item you want to store or display. I like the open wall storage that lets you hang necklaces and the like, sometimes people use bars to store bangles.

u/Nosleepstillkicking · 5 pointsr/LifeProTips

Normally you fold one cup into the other (like one is kind of inside out) but if you really don't like folding, hang them on a rack like this: https://www.amazon.com/InterDesign-Axis-Belt-Rack-Chrome/dp/B0014RB3CW

Folding is probably more bra-friendly, but they're so light I doubt it would be a huge deal. Unlike hanging sweaters which gives me laundry-rage.

u/jNo2 · 5 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I have one of these hanging organizers in my closet:

https://www.amazon.com/Closet-Complete-Hanging-Jewelry-Organizer/dp/B00A2C0LQE/ref=pd_sim_201_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00A2C0LQE&pd_rd_r=PK46SN59DEXYGPPA7FB8&pd_rd_w=DnkKX&pd_rd_wg=ADGtU&psc=1&refRID=PK46SN59DEXYGPPA7FB8

It's double sided so there's plenty of room for all my jewelry and I can always easily find what I'm looking for since the pockets are clear. You can also put a hook up and hang it anywhere if you don't have space in your closet.

u/slolift · 4 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Do people not like these? It takes up a little more space but you can actually see and get to all of your ties.

u/InformationMagpie · 4 pointsr/BeautyBoxes

I don't use one myself (yet) but a hanging jewelry organizer would be great for this, particularly if you're mostly dealing with small sized products.

Here's an example of what I mean.

u/FlamingoInASnowstorm · 3 pointsr/konmari

Not ideal for your necklaces, but I use a hanging organizer with pockets (link)

u/chopstickprincess · 3 pointsr/organization

Im thinking various sized pencil cases (hard or soft) for a lot of one thing and a label.
This beauty organizer might be of good use:
Roll-Up Organizer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C9CCLPE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_IPhACb0E8RNZG
Jewelry: Alezywels Hanging Jewelry Organizer Bag (56-Pockets) Dual-Sided, Thick Oxford Fabric, Zippered Storage, Clear PVC Plastic Windows, Roll-Up, Portable Travel, Rings, Earrings, Necklaces (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JBX7YNB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2ShACb6SP6QXD
But you can find similar things specifically for tools as well like this: 32 Pocket Tool Roll Organizer - Wrench Organizer & Tool Pouch - Wrench Roll Includes Pouches for 10 Sockets - Roll Up Tool Bag for Electrician, HVAC, Plumber, Carpenter or Mechanic - From Rugged Tool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F232C3X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WRhACb888AQQ5

There's a lot of different 'roll up organizer' things, typically labeled for different purposes like beauty, arts and crafts, tools, jewelry. If one that's labeled to be used for jewerly but it looks like it will work best for you then i say try it out. In my experience (but i don't have nearly as many tools nor as much experience), if it's labeled for tools it probably has too many pockets and hiding places. I'll put something in a pocket perfectly meant for this one specific thing but then spend 10 minutes looking in every pocket trying to find it. Which is why oddly enough a beauty, travel, or jewelry organizer works better for me since the pockets tend to be clear so i can see where everything is.

u/peanutmonkey · 3 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

I have http://www.amazon.com/Household-Essentials-80-Pocket-Jewelry-Organizer/dp/B0000CNQZD because I have no room for lovely racks. I only have about 80 bottles of polish, but its working pretty well.

u/75footubi · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I got this though I swear I only paid $40 or so. Don't know why it's so expensive.

Edit: found the actual one

u/sarah_awesome · 3 pointsr/konmari

u/DarkScorpion · 3 pointsr/Firearms
u/vera214usc · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

I bought an elephant ring holder after we got engaged to hold my ring, but I had to keep moving it from room to room. For Christmas, my fiance got me two more, the cat and the bunny from that set, and his mom got me a ring dish. Now I have to look for places I need to take my ring off just so I can use all four!

u/1841lodger · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

First-thoroughly agree on hanging dress shirts. My only concern is that I've noticed my button up shirts especially come out the dryer rather wrinkly. Do I need to iron my shirts every time after washing them or is there some trick that I am missing? It's almost worth dry cleaning everything at this point just to save the time.

With your tie, you could consider a tie box.

Personally I like my ties on a rack. I know you suggested other than racks, but for me something like this is great. You can easily hang it on the back or side wall of your closet.

u/ringabell · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Great guide! The only suggestion I have is maybe use a belt ring instead of hooks. I do this, and it's fantastic for saving space while still keeping all your belts visible.

u/cjsenecal · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I hang all my tops and dress pants. Jeans, chinos, shorts, underwear, and socks are folded in drawers.

I have this tie and belt rack and three of these shoe racks.

u/hitonihi · 2 pointsr/BDSMcommunity

These days, we have a bed frame with four drawers, two of which hold toys. (I can't find the exact one, but it's from Ikea, and they sell a bunch of storage beds in various sizes.) Anything that can be hung up is in the closet on a belt hanger (like this: https://www.amazon.com/InterDesign-Closet-Storage-Organizer-Chrome/dp/B0014RB3CW). But we've also used under bed boxes (https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Underbed-Storage-Stackable-Latching/dp/B06ZZY2M92/), in the past, as well as Sterilite plastic drawers (https://www.amazon.com/HOMZ-Plastic-Drawer-Storage-Drawers/dp/B06ZXYG3CC/)

Cheesecake all day everyday

I LOVE all deserts and it would be really hard to pick just one. But if I had to, I would say vanilla bean cheesecake.

Happy cake day to you!!

u/Lvazd · 2 pointsr/malelifestyle

no. never. its not good for the material. best course of action is to buy a tie rack (e.g. http://www.amazon.com/TVTimeDirect-com-Twirl-a-Tie-Tie-Rack-Organizer/dp/B000GG1JLC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313561237&sr=8-1) its helps the material to let them droop downward.

u/Aerrowae · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A good cup of tea!, a tie/belt organizer, and an L-shaped desk! (I love my L-shaped desk and I could never do without one!)

u/lhpeanut46 · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

Home is where the heart is

So since you already live in a house/duplex, these might be really self-explanatory for you, but they definitely weren't for me, so I'll throw them out there.

  1. Buy a plunger. You're going to want one before you need one. (In my experience with renting, it's almost always been something that was already in the house when I moved in, until my current house, and we didn't have one. This is...unfortunate.) So, there's that.

  2. You can never have enough little garbage bins. The tiny ones that you can just tuck into a corner? They're awesome. Seriously. In my experience, I've had people come over and just leave trash on the coffee table, on the deck, wherever. I bought several cheap small garbage cans from Walmart, and suddenly people can throw stuff away, as opposed to being too lazy to walk to the large bin in the kitchen.

  3. Bathroom organizers are a lifesaver. An over-the-toilet one can be great for towels if you don't have a linen closet, and it's not taking up useful space, since there was a toilet there anyway. A rack like this would be great for holding your palettes. Plus, it makes them all visible! I have one of these hanging in my bathroom and it's great to hold my makeup items.

u/emmny · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

I keep this white mini bowl from Target in our bedroom (it's hard to see but it has a pretty lace pattern), and an elephant ring holder in the bathroom. I just need to find a cute one for the kitchen now.

u/NalgeneAdventure · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

This is what I do too. I have this cute little ring holder that works great!

u/charrisxxx · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I would suggest something like this :

http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/1731086/24885305/0/1k330674234/Large_Acrylic_Lipstick_Holder.jpg
http://www.emilydenisephotography.com/photos/IMG_3405ab.jpg

But with so many lipsticks I don't know if it's very plausible. You would need a lot of these cases, resulting in quite a bit of money. The second link would seem cheaper and maybe more customisable so you could fit more lipsticks in less space. Or as someone has already commented, something like this :

I use this hanger for my ties and bow ties. It works really well, saves space, and is cheap.

u/CombustSpontaneously · 1 pointr/RandomActsofMakeup

Here is mine!

The acrylic organizers are from HauteLook, the velcro hanging bag from Mary Kay, then small-pocketed organizer from Amazon, and the mug is courtesy of a Rachael Ray promotion at my local grocery store :P

u/glaceauglaceau · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I use these hanging jewelry organizers for the majority of it. I also have a couple earring stands and bracelet stands, and jewelry boxes.

I really need to cull my collection, it's mostly junk I acquired over the years from cheapo stores.

u/I_wear_suits_daily · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

For knit ties and cheaper ties, feel free to just hang while it's still tied if you find it convenient. If you're wearing fine silk ties, it's considered good practice to untie them when you're not using them. I use this to store my ties and it works great.

u/daisyismydog · 1 pointr/RandomActsofMakeup

Maybe something like this would help? :) Or perhaps a nail polish rack? I definitely am the same way in needing things to be visible.

u/AuntChiladas · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hello! So I just went through a massive overhaul and cleaning of my house and this has saved my life. It's really great :)

u/mjhc · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

You should get:

1.Black Flats -> You can match them up with literally EVERYTHING, and you'll wear them more than once.

2.Necklace -> These are SUPER matchable (if that's even a word.) They can make any plain old shirt pop and give it an extra fashionable kick. I'd go with orange and/or White

3.Scarf -->Fall is coming and then Winter, this is SUCH a good acessory to make you warmer and look better, you can wear it around your neck or as a headband It's a cream color so It's super easy to wear with anything; you could even wear your flats ;)

4.Food Chopper -->Think of how easy it would be to make some salsa or guacamole with this! (Now my mouth's watering)

5.Tie Hanger--> You can so use it to hang headbands and belts and scarfs, not just ties! Mess be gone!

6.Shot Glasses--> These ensure a fun night, and who doesn't need shot glasses? There's never enough!

7.Too Faced Matte Collection--> I know for myself I always think, oh I don't want to pay that much for makeup but you know what? It's worth it. Too Faced is such a good brand and the combinations are endless, they're very well pigmented and work so good.

Total: $99.44

I have an extra tip for you! Don't buy elf products from here, they're 50% more expensive and if you buy them on their webpage and spend 25 or more, you get free shipping and they ALWAYS have special offers.

Go Ben!

u/frenchmartini · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I second the over-the-door shoe hanger, but also suggest looking at the jewelry ones too with smaller pockets. My battlestation is in one of our guest rooms and is just a drawer in a dresser. I have a few different sized baskets like these and organize my makeup in those. When I'm putting my makeup on I just take the baskets out of the drawer. I have a ghetto folding chair I sit on and a lighted mirror that stays on top of the dresser.

u/Troodi44 · 1 pointr/Etsy

This is what I'd recommend, (I use two of them for my bead supplies):

Closet Complete CANVAS Ultra 80 Pocket Hanging Jewelry Organizer
https://www.amazon.com/Closet-Complete-Hanging-Jewelry-Organizer/dp/B00A2C0LQE/ref=lp_3744511_1_3/184-4077796-9929145?s=storageorganization&ie=UTF8&qid=1467086310&sr=1-3

These are the canvas version; they can also be found in plastic versions which have short life spans, crack, break and aren't as nice as these.

u/ArtsyKitty · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

this is for the first one because it is wine colored! :p

this is for the 2nd riddle.... this might be pushing it.. haha but a broom keeps your house clean which keeps you healthy. this item will keep me healthy so it's like the broom! hahah

this is a hat and it has ears! :D

this is so I will be able to see my kindle in the dark!

A trunk can hold objects and such and this can hold all of my jewelry so that is how they are similar! :)

this is like a cape.... but for your legs! hahah

thank you!

If you have the room on your closet door, get a tie rack (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GPVDLE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_u.SZAbAPEZP0Y) If you don’t, I recommend a tie hanger (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HFJYEQE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YaTZAb8QBTQBD)

There are nicer versions of both, just wanted to share the differences. My tie rack is made of wood and screwed into my closet door. Depends on what you want to go for.

u/InTylerWeTrust24 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I recently got a tie rack. hangs up in my closet so I can see the ties and it doesn't take up much space. Something like this will work for belts too.

u/theadmiraljn · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I know you said you moved the belts to a door rack, but I'd suggest something like this or this to keep them in your closet and out of sight.

Perhaps get a fabric bin or something similar to toss the loose things that are cluttering the shelf up into. Your stuff will all still be there, but it will look a bit more tidy.

u/bluewasabi · 1 pointr/AskWomen

What can't you get her that's under $50?!

u/ThatsATallGlassOfNo · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I use this. It works really well for rings and necklaces. I keep a drawer organizer like this for the small jewelry boxes, the few bracelets I have, and long earrings. Most days I wear studs and I have a little glass dish on my dresser for those.
