you degaussed the screen. there are products out there specifically made for that purpose

Looks like a Degaussing Coil for older CRT monitors.

u/2nopes · 3 pointsr/consolerepair

I haven't had to degauss anything in quite a while but of the two demagnetizers I keep in the shop one looks like an electronic engraver or a drill but with a thick wide tip instead of a pointed one and the other one looks like link 2 but oval shaped. You want the first one, the other is normally for tvs and hard drives

You need a degaussing coil as what you described is most certainly what happened.

You'll also want a new condenser (the cylinder on the right), which can be found at an auto parts store assuming the store clerks know what you are talking about.

u/dirtyelliott · 3 pointsr/boating

I use one of these when fueling the boat. Makes it easy.

u/orphenshadow · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

You will probably want to get a degausing coil and move the speakers away.

THere are youtube videos on how ot use it, if the built in degause button is fixing it temporarily, then you may need to use one of those.

u/sylviandark · 2 pointsr/hondafit

you need to buy the hitachi ignition coils on amazon. kinda pricey but very easy install. you'll need 4 of them.

It appears that this product is OEM based on the description, what are your thoughts? The reason I ask is because it seems that even products that say OEM on them vary in price drastically.

These coils and these plugs are the ones I used after reading a bunch on the VWVortex and Mark6GTI messageboards. You may also want to get your intake cleaned (before you change the plugs) if you haven't already.

I had misfires in my MKIV with similar symptoms, I replaced the ignition coils and it worked like a dream. These are the ones I used for my 2002, YMMV

u/MJOLNIRdragoon · 2 pointsr/cars

https://www.amazon.com/Motorcraft-DG-546-Ignition-Coil/dp/B008PJELAS

Those are Coil on Plug, there are no wires to replace.

What's the mileage/year of your car? If you don't mind throwing the $97 out there, you can do that for the piece of mind, but if the CEL goes out after the plug change and it drives well, then your coils are just fine. (and yeah, I would assume the DG-546 is just a 4 pack of the coils)

u/GSShenanigans · 1 pointr/mazdaspeed3

So I was mistaken, no "2" on the top of my coils. These are the ones I have

That looks like your coil.

I think this might be your part.

honestly, replace all the coils if you can afford it. $30 for an 8 pack of generics on amazon with prime/free shipping or $8 each at rockauto.com -- you can get a 4 pack of O2 sensors for $70... or $20 each at rockauto.

If you plan on replacing the O2 yourself, please remember my name so you can curse it repeatedly as you swap them.... the Coil On Plug (COPs) are super easy, just be careful to NOT snap off the plastic retaining clip, else you're going to want to put a glob of blue RTV on there to make sure they don't just shake off... or buy new ones and replace the wires by using the release tabs in the connector with a push pin.

Also check the COP harness for broken insulation or visible corrosion. BE CAREFUL not to break it, move it as little as possible.

also with that many miles, plan on replacing the timing chain in the future.

If you absolutely want a duplicate of the key you have a few options:

  • if the manufacturer is one with a good reputation (yamaha, honda, vespa, etc) then they should have a master registry of what key goes to what moped. They can look it up and make it for you. This is probably going to be expensive, but the simplest route.
  • You can have a mechanic pull the ignition (or do it yourself, sometimes its not too hard) and brink it to a locksmith and they could do the work for you (this may be about as expensive as buying a remade one). You will need a pretty good locksmith for this one.
  • You can just make a mold of the chamber, bring it to the locksmith and have them construct one from scratch. More expensive and requires a master locksmith to hand make it, but you don't have to have the ignition pulled (a plus if you suspect the ignition may not reassemble correctly, such as with cheap and crappy imported mopeds)
  • Get a whole new ignition. You can likely just buy one and install it yourself or have someone do it for you. (not what you wanted, but it's there)
  • Get a locksmith to re-key your moped. All locks on the moped will have to be removed and brought to the locksmith who will have to make a new pin arrangement, cut a new key, then reassemble all of it then you/your mechanic will need to reinstall the locks on the moped. This is the most expensive route, but you get new, custom locks. Again, not what you wanted, but its still an option.

The more steps on your key there are, the harder it is to duplicate/pick. Here in the US most houses use 5-step keys (the flat planes between each peak). Depending on the car, some cars would use anywhere from five to seven steps. Some keys would hide their steps between other layers and the patter would be mirrored and etched into matching plates on either side of the key body (ex: the keys mercedes used in the '70s and '80s). So depending on how you worked out the geometry, you could have a small, compact key with a dozen pins in the tumbler.

DFI or ICM as it's also known!

We just call it DFI here, even to order it from dealership.

I still have a deguassing coil not at all sure what to do with it.

u/Kawaicoder · 1 pointr/smallengines

I’ll go buy a spark plug for $2.5 today. But if that doesn’t work what’s the part number of the coil thing I need?

u/ScottieWP · 1 pointr/BMW

Thank you for the detailed response. I did swap the 3 coil to 2 cylinder and the check engine light/rough idle replicated. I did not have access to the OBD2 since my friend was busy already - going to buy my own on Amazon for $20. Are these the new coils you are referring to? https://www.amazon.com/Delphi-GN10328-Ignition-Coil/dp/B00CJFLOJU

u/another_cube · 1 pointr/Miata

I have a 1997 Miata and this coil pack worked just fine:

https://www.amazon.com/Beck-Arnley-178-8477-Ignition-Coil/dp/B0076ECHUY/

Tip: reuse your old coil pack bracket. It's difficult to remove the rubber washer on your old bracket, so just remove the new coils from the new bracket and replace your old coils on your old bracket with them.

u/jackrats · 1 pointr/whatisthisthing

Yes, it abolutely is a CRT degausser. They are indeed very often coil shaped. Like this one which you can still buy:

https://www.amazon.com/Waldom-Degaussing-Coil-Color-Power/dp/B00011UYJU

Bulk tape erasers are generally not coil shaped. As you can see:
