Honestly, the way that I learned typing was with those Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing program.

http://www.amazon.com/Mavis-Beacon-Teaches-Typing-18/dp/B0014ZQMXO

Wasn't this version, but it's all the same thing.

EDIT: Newest Version of it http://www.amazon.com/Mavis-Beacon-Teaches-Typing-Deluxe/dp/B003MU9CPY/ref=dp_ob_title_sw

This is a Crem post.

I don't think this is what they really look like. When I think of Pattern floating I think of this symbol from the Mathematica box

Edit: Patterns name.

From a legal perspective, scanning these magazines would be complicated. Some of the older magazines may be out of copyright in the US. Determining this for certain is difficult, though, as works created before 1978 have a variable copyright lifetime, dependent on renewals.

From a practical standpoint, scanning these magazines would be pointless. You can buy a complete collection on DVD for next to nothing. It's also available through their web site.

Hi Tinchy, the very first thing that came to mind was the Mavis Beacon software. Years ago, people used that to learn to type and/or improve their typing. It turns out that Mavis is still around, apparently. You can find it on, for example, Amazon and CNET. (Disclaimer: I didn't learn to type via Mavis, and haven't seen it in years, so I don't know about the current versions or their quality.)

Two older threads might be of interest to you, also, as they contain additional software, ideas, and recommendations.

I need to learn touch typing

Learning how to touch type

One other thought: If you are a university student, see if your campus or student resource center offers any classes to learn typing. If you are not a student and are in the U.S., see if your local WorkSource Center or state employment office offers any typing classes, maybe as as part of its "adult basic skills" set. (These would be free of cost.) If you are outside the U.S., maybe your province or country has some sort of employment or vocational office that offers help with this.

Edited to fix a bad URL.

Cengage (the publisher of the textbook in question) sells an "unlimited" pass for $120 for one semester; $180 for 365 days; or $240 for 730 days. Link

> Subscription Benefits:
>
>All your Cengage access codes on platforms like MindTap, WebAssign, CengageNowv2, Aplia, SAM, iLrn, OWLv2 and OpenNow
>
>Access to our entire library of online textbooks
>
>A lower cost hardcopy textbook rental with each access code, available within the 50 states
>
>New study tools including online homework, flashcards, test prep, study guides and more
>
>A career center where you can boost your job skills, explore career options and build your resume
>
>Keep up to 6 online textbooks for a year after your subscription ends

That's intriguing. The same book is used (at least for now, anyway) for Calc II (Math 2423), Calc III (Math 2433) and Calc IV (Math 2443). Paying $240 for two years of codes + free online text usage seems like a good deal. Of course, if the Math Dept. changes textbooks in the next two years, it'll be a waste of money, but probably worth the risk.

For Amazon you will need to download their PC Client and link your account.

Other stores have other restrictions and the only store that offer DRM-Free (meaning that you can read at your browser without any issue) is J-Novel Club. However you have to subscribe to their service before being allowed to buy the e-books.

It is wise to be cautious but don't wander over the fence to paranoia. The bulk of the malware that you will encounter will throw a million ads at you and try to scare you into buying software that removes malware. Essentially cyber extortion, "We have you computer, pay us 59.99 or it gets the clamp!". If AVG and the above mentioned program isn't picking anything up then you are most likely fine.

On a side note. Mrs. Mavis Beacon is the reigning matriarch of typing tutors. She has taught many of us and she still exists to this day. You can get it here: http://www.amazon.com/Mavis-Beacon-Teaches-Typing-Deluxe/dp/B003MU9CPY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1314717502&sr=8-4

You don't need a Kindle! You can download Amazon's Kindle software for PC or Mac for free and read it on your computer. It should be pretty good on a computer https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Digital-Services-LLC-Download/dp/B00UB76290

As o0oo0o_ said, the easiest way to access links should be by using Amazon's cloud reader ; also you can install the Kindle reader App (which are free) to your computer or mobile device.

Human Japanese is definitely your best bet if you're looking for language teaching. It's a great program, particularly if you're in the starting out phases of Japanese. You can download the demo to give it a try, but you'll find that (particularly if you're more of a beginner) it's a great way to start, and paying the very small fee for it will be totally worth it. The Human Japanese app is just a mobile version of the Human Japanese PC software, you can find it on Amazon, here. I started out with HJ, and it was of great help to me. Everything is explained, great examples, quizzes, games, etc. You can also try the program out on the Human Japanese website, click here. It's worth it.

I've used JA Sensei too, and I can say that it's pretty decent particularly if you're looking to brush up on, learn or review your Kanji, however, it is more of a drilling / quiz based app. Human Japanese appears to be what you're looking for. But if you're beyond the beginner level, you'll find it too simple.

Since he is a games programmer, you may want to take a look at ElectricVLab which employs the technology of video games to let one play with electronic circuits. It is there on Amazon as well.

What is wrong with the kindle app from amazon.com:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UB76290/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_1_w

It gets 4.5 stars so curious what issues you have with it. Amazon is usually pretty responsive to customer feedback, so it might be beneficial to contact their customer service if you have a repeatable issue.

Also, have you tried metrotube? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/metrotube/9wzdncrfj2jt

I hear Google doesn't play well with Microsoft because of ongoing patent disputes and whatnot, so 3rd-party apps tend to work a lot better if the web player is not sufficient for you.

Anyway give those a try if you haven't recently - you may be pleasantly surprised. If they are no good for you, provide feedback to the developers directly - not much is gonna happen on reddit unfortunately.

You can [download a Kindle reader on your computer](Kindle for PC [Download] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UB76290/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xRHJBbN8506N1) for free. PC and Mac versions. Also in app form for your phone.

u/chiruochiba · 1 pointr/HPfanfiction

I'm not sure what you mean by "Kindle website." Do you mean browsing Amazon for ebooks to purchase?

The Kindle app is something different. You can install the app on your PC to read ebooks that way. To read fanfiction ebooks in the app you just need to copy the ebook files to the correct folder on your PC.

Here's a guide on how to do that if you like: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/13169/add-mobi-ebooks-to-kindle-for-pc/

Kindle for PC program there. Also, there is a Kindle app on every major phone OS. You can customise the pages slightly on the apps. I find using anything other than the pure white background is better on the eyes.

Good questions. Flash Facts and Memorang are very different programs and it depends on what better fits your learning style. (I would say to try both and then make the best determination for yourself).

From a feature point of view, advantages for Memorang would be that it's available on both the web and mobile. Also, it takes study sets of information and presents it in multiple ways (flashcards, multiple choice, matching, and games) and allows you to create custom study playlists and even upload your own flashcards. In other words, it's a program that you could use for your day-to-day coursework in addition to your USMLE prep. From a content point of view, Memorang presents the information in more varied ways and covers a broader scope since both First Aid and Pathoma are integrated.

The spaced repetition we have is a bit different than Anki, but hopefully in a few months we'll release another feature where you can set a goal and schedule and then receive a daily queue of what to review.

The best collection of student experiences with Memorang would probably be the reviews on Amazon which you can read here.

I hope this helps!

Sure she is. She's that black woman (that's her just "hanging out" at work).

Don't believe everything you read on wikipedia. I heard that conservatives like to troll and delete secular beliefs like Mavis Beacon.

We are pushing to keep him in a state supervised curriculum, since this is her first time raising him in 3 years. I don't know if she knows much about unschooling.

Do you have any favorite puzzle, or brain teaser books for students.

To be honest, math was the last subject I thought about. We thought about sending software, but there is so much great free stuff right now. Do you recommend anything like Algebrator for his birthday?

u/HenkPoley · 1 pointr/IAmA

I'd go with Rosetta Stone Version 3: Chinese (Mandarin), not a book.. But be careful to read the reviews. And find some other people to talk mandarin to.

Just for comparison here's a retail copy of 2012 Data Centre (2 processor kit) http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Server-Center-License/dp/B0093CAKMY $3,816.99

You can compare that to server 2012 Standard (2 processor kit) http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Server-2012-Standard/dp/B0093CB30M/ref=pd_cp_sw_0 $672

So if you intend to run your servers at anything more than 5/6 to 1 consolidation ratios you'll be much better off with Data Centre licenses rather than stacking multiple 2012 Server Standard licenses on the same servers.

If you buy Data Centre under an OVS license it should come out at roughly 1.2K / year over a 3 year period (and that includes built in SA cover which you don't get if you buy retail), SA is likely to be much more useful going forward as MS has committed to a much faster release cycle for their platforms compared to previous experience.

No he means that Hyper-V Server is free. It is a standalone host OS product from Microsoft that is free. It does not have a GUI, is command line only but you can manage it remotely with GUI tools after installation.

What OS is your guests? If all 20 are Windows it is cheaper to buy a Windows 2012 Datacenter license for the host. This license allows you to run unlimited Windows Server guests without paying for any additional server license (you just license Datacenter once for the host).

On the contrary if you go with Hyper-V server as the host you need to pay for 20x Windows Server licenses for the guest (assuming that's the guest OS).

Windows 2012 Datacenter is $4,200 retail price.

Windows 2012 Server is $672 and gives you a license for 2 guests which means you would need 18 more licenses at a cost of $12,096 retail.

Hyper-V server is free but you'd need 20 licenses of 2012 Server for the guests, total cost of $13,440.

Again this is all retail prices and only if all guests are Windows Server.

I'm playing it on Win 8.1 with a DirectInput controller (don't try Xinput) and it plays perfectly, but I had to set compatibility to WinXP and mount the disk image so the game would run. Not sure if Amazon would actually sell it nowadays (and they don't ship to my country anyway), but there might be some used copies floating around at eBay.

Don't bother getting a PS2 just for playing CL again, the PC version is great if you got a DInput controller.

Amazon actually says high ratings from players. Damn right, they get it! lol
