Try buying a copy of Skies of Arcadia for Gamecube.

u/Geo · 11 pointsr/gamernews

I KNOW, just like how movie-esque Sonic Adventure was!

u/MyDadCantCount · 8 pointsr/smashbros

What you need to get started playing Melee:

  1. A Nintendo Wii (in case you ever become interested in Project M) available for about $40+ various places on the internet. Try to get the white one as some of the black models does not have slots for Gamecube controllers. Make sure the Wii has the sensor bar, power cables, AV cables, at least 1 wiimote. You also need a Gamecube Memory card so you can save the game. Alternatively if Wii isn't your thing you could purchase a Gamecube bundle like this.

  2. A Wired Official Nintendo Gamecube Controller (negates wireless interference at large tournaments) available from anywhere from about $10+ Used on eBay to about $40 new on Amazon. Let me stress again OFFICIAL Nintendo controller, third parties are generally shoddy and not worth the investment regardless of their price.

  3. A copy of Super Smash Bros Melee, price normally fluctuates from $30-$60 depending on site and demand.

  4. A CRT television. The big ol' chunky ones. These are the only kinds of TV that do not have input delay for Melee. You can find them for free on craigslist or can buy one at a garage sale or thrift store for $5-10 dollars. Make sure it has AV hookups and a remote or a built in button to switch the inputs. Remember to lift with your legs or get a friend to help cause they can be heavy (my main one is 42" and 300lbs).

  5. A Smashboards Account. Everything Smash related can be found there. Character discussions, tourny info, ect...

    Extra suggestions:

  • Find human opponents in your area ASAP. You'll probably lose and lose badly but you learn infinitely more than playing against CPUs. Finding good players who are willing to show you the ropes is key.

  • Watch this and Go Here to learn advanced techniques.

  • Once you get a feel for all the characters choose the one you like best and stick to them as this will help you improve faster. This is the most current Melee tier list, which is basically a power ranking of characters. That said, do not take it too seriously, anyone in S or A tier is generally viable and even those below it are feasible if you put in the time and effort (just look to this subreddit's hero aMSa who consistently puts up amazing results with Yoshi)

  • If you're not having fun you're probably not playing right.

  • I strongly recommend watching The Smash Bros documentary it was created and funded by the community and gives a really in depth look into the history of competitive Melee.

  • If you want to play Project M (the second most popular Smash game currently) you need a copy of SSB Brawl, a 2gb SD Card, and the hackless edition PM files.

    ___
Hopefully that helps. If you have any other questions I can try my best to answer them tomorrow.

That is not what that game costs... Super Smash Bros Melee https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005Q8M0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Lk-gzb6JCACA2

u/rukiddingdood · 8 pointsr/gaming

wind waker was a zelda game for the gamecube (the nintendo before the wii) and the wii will be able to play it! you might have to pick up a gamecube controller as well (it plugs into the top of the wii). good luck!

EDIT: Here's a bunch of used copies on amazon!

And if you ever want to upgrade to a Wii U, I'd suggest checking out the refurbished section directly from Nintendo!

u/Oshojabe · 7 pointsr/patientgamers

No, you can get the games used for pretty cheap (at least some of them.) Amazon has the first for under $6 used. And you can get a Game Cube or Wii used for under $40.

Getting a used DS and the DS games would also not break your wallet.

u/bigmooseextreme · 7 pointsr/patientgamers

Wind Waker is not cheap, but is one of the greatest games of all time.

u/Paranoiac · 6 pointsr/smashbros

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00005Q8M0/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

There are three copys for under 50, excluding shipping. Not sure what you consider a reasonable price for it.

u/Pilcrow182 · 6 pointsr/patientgamers
  • Star Fox Adventures (less than £10) is basically a Zelda game with a Star Fox skin, and very fun even if you're not normally a fan of the Star Fox games.

  • Lost Kingdoms (less than £10) is an Action-JRPG with an interesting battle system in which you summon monsters from cards. It's a bit cheesy and you can tell it was made with a smaller budget, but it's loads of fun.

  • Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (less than £20) is a psychological horror action-mystery game, and while I haven't played more than a couple of hours into this one yet, I can say it has some great atmosphere and plays sort of like the earlier Resident Evil games.

  • Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (less than £20) is an awesome Diablo-like action-RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms world. Especially good for multiplayer, but the story is decent enough to play single-player as well.

  • Phantasy Star Online (less than £20) is like a third-person over-the-shoulder Diablo mixed with some Zelda-style combat/timing, but in a futuristic setting (including lightsaber-like "energy swords"). The game is playable in single-player despite having 'online' in its name, but can also be connected to various private servers if you have a GC Broadband adapter. I've personally put over 200 hours into this game... <3

^(EDIT: Added Phantasy Star Online after realizing the UK price is so cheap)
u/EndVSGaming · 5 pointsr/smashbros

I haven't bought a GC, personally I would recommend a Wii. A lot, maybe even most, people playing Melee at tourneys are doing it with a Wii. You could buy them from a local store used, or off eBay or Amazon.

Melee

There is no emulation on Wii for GC, so everything will run correctly.

u/b3rn13mac · 5 pointsr/pcmasterrace

That is definitely true.

Fuck these people. It sells, but goddamn it makes me angry that Nintendo hasn't released Melee on the Virtual Console.

u/heymrk · 5 pointsr/metalgearsolid

I'll just leave this right here.

u/mini4x · 5 pointsr/delusionalcraigslist

It's availbe 1000 other places for abotu $60 though..

Even amazon marketpalce has several copies:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00005Q8M0/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

For $140 you can get one new/unopened in orig packaging!

u/AmoDman · 5 pointsr/nintendo

>I'm not really sure how to feel about this. On one hand, it's great that they aren't charging $60 for it, but I find it difficult to justify buying a remake that looks set to add very little to the experience.

This game wasn't made for you. I'm serious.

It was made for Nintendo to make some easy money off of the demographic that never played Wind Waker and possibly those who simply want to re-play it in HD. It was a brilliant move on their part too since there are probably lots of people who never played it or might simply like to own it on a modern console and get that damn gamecube out of their living room already. And I'm sure they devoted relatively few resources to the project allowing them to stall for more releases coming.

And I don't even want to hear about price. Disc only used copies of the GC game sell for $40 + shipping right now on Amazon.

u/SelfimmolationPride · 3 pointsr/Games

Honestly, probably not. It was a GameCube game. My brother and I both beat it, I bought it on a complete whim because the title and back of the case made it sound sweet. The reviews for the game are really good, I remember it being pretty challenging and the sanity effects were really great for the time. If you have the resources to play it, I'd say go for it. If you have to buy a system and copy of the game it might not be worth it in all honesty. I'm sure the controls are clunky making the game frustrating. I remember plenty of parts that were hard because of the camera and controls but it didn't ruin or sour the experience for my brother or I.

It probably completely depends on your tolerance for older 3D games, it's 14 years old or so now.

Eternal Darkness Gameplay Walkthrough 1

Here's a gameplay video. I don't want to spoil anything if you decide to play it. The video is 10 mins long.

MAYBE there is a GameCube emulator that would work, I have no idea though. I think you'd have to buy a GameCube and find a copy of the game to ever play it. Highly doubt it will be remastered or brought to the Nintendo eShop.

Eternal Darkness - Amazon

Prices for the game are anywhere from $25~ to $100~ depending on condition.

I didn't play a lot of GameCube games so for me, Eternal Darkness is one of the best games for the system. I haven't played it since it came out though, so lots of rose-tinted memories.

EDIT: you might be better off watching a play through of the game versus spending money to get it.

u/harbingerofchaos · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Like this or this maybe?

u/Zumbach · 3 pointsr/zelda
u/MyOtherCarIsEpona · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

N64 version - $20

3DS version - $23

Gamecube version, with original and Master Quest - $25

Collector's disc - OoT, Majora's Mask, Zelda 1 and 2 - $40

Or there's the Wii Virtual Console version for $10.

Alternatively, you can play it on your PC with the retexture mod. I've been wanting to try that for a while but never got around to it.

u/Arktri · 3 pointsr/gaming

Is this the one you are talking about? I recently found my gamecube and am looking to get some games.

u/hradon · 3 pointsr/gaming

I would recommend The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
A Link to the Past came out on the Super Nintendo (there was also a re-release, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past & Four Swords, for the Game Boy Advanced. The only difference is the extra multi-player game). You'll probably find a good deal online or at a local game store for the cartridge if you plan on playing it on the SNES. If you have Wii,you can buy it in the store, or if you have a softmodded Wii, then you can just download the SNES emulator and play it through that.
Ocarina of Time is originally from the N64 and is one of the most acclaimed games on the N64, in the series, and in gaming. If you want to play it on the N64, again, look online and at local stores. If you have a Gamecube (or a Wii), you could also search for either The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Master Quest, which has the original Ocarina of Time plus the Master Quest, or The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. The Collector's Edition has Ocarina of Time, the original Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening, Major's Mask, and a demo for Wind Waker. Again, if you have a Wii, you could buy it on the online store, or if it's softmodded, play it on the N64 emulator.
Edited to fix link formatting.

>even if you're legally in the right you might have to prove it in court and if you don't have the resources or lawyer to prove it then you still might be in hot water.

So at what point does Nintendo catch them... Doing something legal? Do they have a rootkit on their system that is constantly scanning for .ISOs? Has Dolphin been working with Nintendo this entire time to populate a list of users to send them to court? I'm curious to see how you think this goes down.

u/blueskyfish · 3 pointsr/gaming

Go pick up a Gamecube for about $18. Then get this game.

It contains Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, and Zelda, Zelda II for the NES.

u/thezander8 · 3 pointsr/smashbros

We're playing a game with discs that costs $180 where the best controller costs $90 and you're worried about costs?

CRTs, Gamecubes, controllers, memory cards, and discs are just going to keep going up in price until the community can't grow anymore. A Melee port sucks in the short term but is very necessary in the long run.

u/windwaker02 · 3 pointsr/gaming

If you own a Gamecube, you could get The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (w/ Master Quest), or The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition (Zelda / Zelda II: The Adventure of Link / Ocarina of Time / Majora's Mask); though you may want to shop around for better prices.

If you own a Wii or a Wii U, you should be able to find it on the Virtual Console for about $10. Wii VC version; Wii U VC version

If you have a 3DS, you can get The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for about $20.

I can't think of any other ways that don't violate rule 7.

u/FictitiousForce · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

My second cousins came over to say with us a few times and they always wanted to play my GameCube—they were around 5 and 8 or something. I had already owned a Wii so I was okay with that. One day I come home from school and my Double Dash and Melee discs were broken, and the GameCube has jelly inside the disc reader. It was around 2007 or something.

I still cry every day.

Now I don't care who comes over, their kids are not allowed anywhere near my shit. I will set up the game for them, but if I'm not home, they are not allowed to touch my games. I keep them hidden in my bookshelf far away from the living room. I also make it clear that there will be no food anywhere near the gaming area—they are all afraid of me and I'd rather have it this way than risk having anything else of sentimental value destroyed by children with no regard for property and parents who think everything is easily replaceable.

Ugh I hate how I barely have any of the games I played as a child. Games really helped me through a sad childhood, and I really wish I could have known what sentimental value they had so that I took better care of them. Nowadays I hoard everything and meticulously organize/maintain all my consumer electronics.

If you had a Gamecube and a couple of Gameboys lying around Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals is one of THE most fun Co-ops to play with friends/special lady friends.

It's a hack and slash, action RPG that has 4 races with different strengths and weaknesses (but very simple, straight forward). '

The gameboy is your controller and everyone has a different map on the gameboys (treasure map, monster map, etc) so it forces you to work together. You could combine your attacks or magic to dole out bigger damage (It takes a team effort as some bosses actually require certain combos be fired at them!).

It is one of the greatest co-ops ever not just because of game play, nice graphics, and awesome musical score but also because you could literally have a non-gamer addicted in seconds. It is so easy to get into yet it has depth if you want that as well.

This is the Co-op game you and your girl are looking for. You can buy it new in amazon for about $20 and the gamecube gameboy link cable for about $8 each.

The most metal Nintendo character of all time, Pious Augustus, the villain from Eternal Darkness.

He's a Roman Centurion turned badass lich who swears fealty to the wicked elder gods. He'd be a summon type character who could cast area of effect spells and spawn zombies and all sorts of other eldritch horrors to attack you. If you haven't played this game, by the way, get on that. Definitely one of the great unsung classics of the Gamecube and one of the most creative survival horror games period. It's a shame Nintendo doesn't even acknowledge it anymore. Just a trophy or even a sticker would be nice. Smash would be a great way to generate more interest in a sequel.

Final Fantasy XIII sold just under 7 million units worldwide and it wasn't enough for Square Enix to break-even. They lost money on that game's development and they've been making sequels with the unused assets and releasing as many ports of their beloved IPs as possible to try to stay afloat.

Any niche jRPG that goes out of stock from the big retailers gets picked up by resellers who then bump up the price. Tales of Symphonia costs well over $100 and it sold slightly more than Xenoblade. Skies of Arcadia Legends sold 220 thousand units, less than a quarter of Tales of Symphonia, and a new copy costs $129 or more ( http://www.amazon.com/Skies-Arcadia-Legends-Pc/dp/B00007KUUD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371135645&sr=8-1&keywords=skies+of+arcadia )

Just because the price of a game is very high doesn't mean the game sold very well. Games that sell well tend to have a lot of copies in the market and are resold at very low prices. As an example Final Fantasy X, one of the best selling jRPGs ever, costs less than $20 new.

Sorry but you are wrong.

A game I would like to try is Bloodborne . I've played a little bit of Dark Souls 3 at a friends house and really enjoyed it. I've only heard positive review on it and the gameplay and bosses looks like so much fun to play.

My favorite game has to be Super Mario Sunshine. I have so many childhood memories of replaying the different levels. I love the game mechanics and how you use FLUDD in different ways. The game just has a special place in my heart from all the times I would play it when I was a kid.

Thanks for doing this contest, have a good day!

The first one to come to mind is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Holy crap that game...

Whenever talking about amazing games, this one tends to get overlooked due to the encouraged co-op. The game has such a consistent theme and atmosphere (of dread and futility) that it reinforces perfectly through gameplay and action (Tipa, a dungeon/level, serves as a reminder of what you are fighting to prevent delay). This only works because the game does NOT hold your hand, and if you do not pay attention, the game will appear to be infinite and never end. The emotional payoff of the end is exponentially magnified by how it interacts with all other major emotional scenes. Aside from the conclusion/climax, each side-story's 'payoff' is tainted with a taste of powerlessness and futility, making you feel like you are just scraping by in a hostile world, as you were only able to slightly affect that plot-line's outcome.

This makes the ending that much more powerful, and actually motivated me to beat it as soon as I found it (horribly underleved/geared mind you). Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is the only game I think successfully pulls off the 'save the world' idea because of how well it sets up that you are the only one to be able to figure it out and have the strength to overcome what awaits. The emotional payoff from the ending credits has eclipsed anything I have ever played since (is highly vocal soundtrack fits perfectly in this regard), even TWEWY which I would also say is a very emotional and impactful game.

Please, if you liked games like the Tales series or Final Fantasy, and are not scared of live action/vs turn based or are intrigued by what I have said, check the review. You do not need a GBA/Game Cube connector for single player, but if you like the game and have another to play with (you probably can emulate 2 player), consider purchasing the needed cables. Also, don't forget you can pop it right into a Wii, and again if you wouldn't take my word for it, try it out for free.

If you read this far, here is a (monotone, but very informative) video review. If this video doesn't cover anything that worries you, then what are you waiting for? If you have any questions or concerns, ask me and I'll respond as soon as I'm able.

Oh, and here it is on amazon. The game alone is going for $34, and with the cable is $38. If you have a GC or Wii and access to 2 GBA's it's well worth it to grab a buddy and pay $42 (at most).

Hell, if you want to, emulate it as a way of demoing it first if need be.

TL;DR: FF:CC, read before replying.

I know you said that you don't want to buy a console but think of this:

  • Nintendo Wii - $60
  • Melee - $50
  • GC Controller - $30
  • GC Memory Card - $10

You'll get started with Melle for $150. Less if you can buy locally and find things on CL.

Otherwise, if you want to do Melee. Dolphin and Melee with a GC controller and Adapter will be the best for you.

Its about a boy who finds himself in another dimension and is searching for a lost loved one. The gameplay is very similar to pokemon where you can tame monsters and evolve them. The art was done by Studio Ghibli and the developer is Studio 5, so the game has a very high quality feel and look to it.

One game I have been dying to play is Sonic Adventures DX for the Gamecube. It can be used, I don't care. Thats how I was gonna get it eventually. :P

I know there's good selection, but they can get expensive too. The cheapest used copy of Melee on Amazon is $58 plus $5 of shipping. I got it for $28 at a local shop, so I'm going to try and stay local for now.

u/frickindeal · 1 pointr/gaming

I must be. A seller on Amazon wants $81 for it.

u/-MD- · 1 pointr/GameDeals

They only remade the original Resident Evil for Gamecube, it's the best game in the series imo. Resident Evil 2 and 3 are also on Gamecube but they're just ports, not full remakes.

4 is worth playing, 5 sucked, 6 sucked. You want to play this one. It's amazing. It's also on the Wii

u/theresamerkel · 1 pointr/smashbros

Right now melee is actually more expensive online.

First one on the used page on Amazon in 30 bucks.

Or if you wanna trade some of your games for a copy check out 99gamers

u/a1blank · 1 pointr/Lawrence

Amazon has a used copy for $29.95 + $3.99 shipping.

u/Yubza · 1 pointr/makemychoice

Ok yeah that sounds fair for the most part I guess. Especially since SSB is an oldie, but I found a used copy of SSB for about $35 on amazon if you wanna check it out.

Not a remake, but it was packaged as a pre-order bonus for Wind Waker. It also included Master Quest, a slightly redesigned and I believe more difficult version of the game.

Gauntlet on Gamecube?

It's almost $50 on Amazon for just the disc. About the same deal on eBay that I'm seeing. Looks like PS2 version is the $20-25 range. So maybe we're just looking at different places/games?

But here's the pics:

I just pulled them all out of storage, and, unfortunately, I can't find the manual for Gauntlet. Everything else is CiB, but I also saw that Dragon Quarter is frayed at the top of the cover.

Idk if that means you won't be interested in the trade any more. Understandable, if not.

If this is the correct game, looks like amazon has them from about $40 for a used copy, and $80 for new.

I love this game so much. and you too I hope.

u/manofsticks · 1 pointr/gaming

That's the collectors edition, on Wii. Here's the gamecube Prime

u/IndieGamerRid · 1 pointr/gamegrumps

I've been hitting the GCN library hard since I got a refurbished one after my Wii broke. I haven't gotten a copy of Sunshine back yet, they're fairly expensive in good shape, but it's on the top of my list to look out for, along with SSBM. And for the record, yes, the Grumps are making me want to play it really, really bad.

u/MrKeehar · 1 pointr/retrogameswap

No, not really, I don't have much for the systems your looking for. I have eternal darkness (but I have to check if it works, I may have a duplicate of sonic adventure 2 battle I could trade (I have to look), I also have this game in great shape: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ol/B00005RCR0?c=u
But, I'm going to sleep now so I will get back to you tomorrow if you have any further interest.

u/Nolon · 1 pointr/zelda

If you get a controller get the Wavebird. I'm unsure as far as what game would work, but I know sometimes games have those regional locks on them.

Amazon Around 30 in U.S. money.

u/stickytriumph · 0 pointsr/PHXList

They're not hard....what? To find? Where are you finding them for $30? Plus tax you're looking close to $35.

Luigis Mansion - Lowest Price is $46: https://www.amazon.com/Luigis-Mansion-Gamecube/dp/B00005Q8LR

Super Mario Sunshine: https://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Sunshine-GameCube/dp/B00176ZDQW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473706502&sr=8-1&keywords=super+mario+sunshine+gamecube

You MIGHT find them cheaper, but these games are pretty rare as it is.
