Bose QC25s for $110 is a good deal.

u/cr0ft · 8 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

20 euros is mostly going to be noname cheap stuff, hard to recommend anything there.

What you really need are proper noise cancelling headphones. The price point does go up some from there. The really excellent ones are several hundred (Bose, and the Sony 1000) so that may be beyond your pain point. Creative Aurvana ANC are still $150+ and the Bose QuietComfort 25 which are the go-to affordable ANC cans are $130-ish.

But some actively noise-cancelling headphones would make your entire flight vastly more comfortable, they were first created to cut out the drone of aircraft engines and they all do that extremely well. Same with bus noise, train noise, any predictable droning noise they just remove almost entirely.

Basically, if you can afford to fly around and do that more than once, investing in a pair of ANC cans would be a pretty solid choice in my opinion.

Hard to go wrong with the Bose 25's. The 35's are considerably better but also twice the price. Not sure where the Creatives would place.

Bose isn't bad, but it's very overpriced for the quality you get.

I swear by the Sennheiser HD 380s that I keep at work. The ear cups go around your ear rather than on top of it, which means they do a better job of blocking out sound and are much more comfortable for long periods of time. Even though it's pricey ($150), it's still half the price of Bose.

The Beyerdynamic DT770 is also a good option. I have DT990s at home but you wouldn't want open headphones in an office environment - it'd let too much office noise in, and your coworkers will hate you because your music will leak out. You want the 32 ohm version of these unless you also want to buy a headphone amp like this one.

Bose Quiet Comfort 25 on sale 50 percent off - is this a good deal?

u/thekevjames · 4 pointsr/rational

> apart from the obvious [...] "noise cancelling headphones"

Just want to mention that this is the only option that's managed to work for me. My company just got acquired by a larger one which fits ~200 people in a single open office space and has a culture of folks having loud meetings in the middle of the office, often next to un-involved folks' desks.

I grabbed a set of Bose QC 25s last time they went on sale and wear them pretty much 8/5 at work. They're fantastic, some days I'm sure they're the only thing keeping me sane.

For $200 (and often on sale for much less) amortized over the number of days you can actually pay attention to what you're doing, I couldn't be happier.

EDIT: worth noting that the sound cancelling can be enabled even when music is not playing, which is how I often find myself using them.

u/Junkmans1 · 3 pointsr/askcarsales

use a wired headset. Even less noise and a clearer signal than a bluetooth headset.

If you want to get even more serious about reducing the road noise then get a pair of Bose noise cancellation headphones (noise cancellation on these is much better than other brands that cost less) like this one. You can save even more by buying used off Amazon or eBay. Just be sure to pick out model with a microphone. You can buy third party accessory microphones with a boom mic if you prefer that.

u/ChinosandStanSmiths · 3 pointsr/headphones

You won't be getting decent NC headphones unless you reach up to ~300 range, the reason being that NC is really expensive on R&D costs.

If your main reason for buying headphones is NC, then I would get a used one.

I recently purchased some Sony WH1000MX2 headphones off on /r/AVexchange for ~240 shipped and I've seen QC35's go for anywhere from 225 to 300 on there and /r/hardwareswap.

I have not heard about the Audio Technica Headphones but apparently the QC25's are ok, just another alternative.

You could also get passive NC IEM's from Etymotic which have the most noise isolation of most IEM's.

$100: Etymotic HF5's

$180: or the ER3XR

$350:the Etymotic ER4XR.

u/TizardPaperclip · 3 pointsr/audioengineering

Earplugs are best at attenuating high frequencies. Noise-cancelling headphones are best at attenuating low frequencies.

If you want to attenuate both, first put in a pair of earplugs, and then put on a pair of noise-cancelling headphones over the top.

3M earplugs. These are very good at blocking out high frequencies.

These headphones from Bose are good at blocking out lower frequencies.

u/amoxy · 3 pointsr/flying

It looks like that AV Mike-1 velcro and then zip ties to your headphones, not exactly the best for dual use of the headphones. I'd pony up the extra $75 to get one from a reliable company and a known quantity. In the grand scheme of aviation, $75 isn't a whole lot of money.

On another note the QC35 doesn't have user replaceable batteries so if they die in flight you lose all ANR with no way of getting it back until you charge them. UflyMike doesn't have a model for the 35s

My personal suggestion would be to pick up a cheap set of QC25s, a UflyMike or NflightMic mic and a bluetooth attachment for the QC25 if you really want wireless capabilities. You'll be out less money than using QC35 and have a headset that can accept AA batteries.

u/ynnusyzz · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

I don't see these go on sale often; this one's by Amazon but there are options with no tax+shipping from third party sellers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00M1NEUKK/ref=olp_f_new?ie=UTF8&f_new=true&sort=taxsip

NOTE: This is the original, WIRED version of the bluetooth QC35, which typically retail for ~$350

u/YuleTideCamel · 2 pointsr/webdev

I work in a very similar situation to you. Nerf guns, video games etc. It can definitely be hard to concentrate.

I have the BOSE QC 25 They are expensive, but completely worth it. Sound quality is great and the noise cancellation is the best out there.

There is a convention people follow in tech companies that is if you have one headphone not on your ear (on the side of your head) people can tlak to you. If you have both headphones on your ear, you are "in the zone" and shouldn't be bothered. Another thing I've seen is red/green signs. When you are focused you flip a sign on your desk to red.

For me, I mostly just wear headphones and zone out. But if I need to really focus I just go book a conference room and sit alone or go work at a coffee shop for an hour (assuming you can do that).

u/woooofwoof · 2 pointsr/headphones

The best noise canceling headphone are Bose Quiet Comfort 25, they cost $299 but it's worth the extra $99, they sound great and they are very light and comfortable.

I have done the bose earphone test and i'll amend my comment

I don't really notice a significant difference between the two songs using these headphones

The file in the OP is more well balanced and feels overall cleaner, but its also like 20 percent quieter than the HQ youtube rip of this vid vid here

So for my earbud use when I'm running/lifting and blasting as loud as I can go, i'd trade a little bit of volume for that bit of quality

But if I'm just chilling then i'd prefer the mp3 you gave

I'm going to gild both of these comments unless you give me an alternative to show my appreciation - box of chocolates? a pint at the pub? Let me know.

Anyway, let me start by saying I'm blown away by the sheer commitment to detail you've got going on. Clearly not only in helping me, but in helping everyone. I'm slurping this up like the beginner I am, but it is just astounding how you go above and beyond indulging my questions - you almost wrote bloody essays on each one! I can't thank you enough. On to the follow-up:

  • Sustainability: 4 years seems a good return on investment... I'm convinced!
  • Mouse: mouse is this one but in terms of scale is likely the same size as the one you linked. I feel I am a clawer now, though I'm sure I wasn't before using this mouse. You are definitely right - the design of the mouse does impact heavily on how it 'feels' in your hand. And they all differ so much... I feel I'd like a heavier mouse too but I reckon that next week I might go in the shops and try a few, and see how I feel (btw, my hand length is 15.5cm);
  • Headphones: I tried these on once during a flight and I didn't even listen to music, i just turned the button on and enjoyed the silence... But usually I do use my smartphone as an mp3 player to stream spotify. I wouldn't want to spend over 100£ on some headphones...Your note on looking for something lightweight because of flying is also a great catch.
  • bad dog: Zappa is her name, and she is a rescued french bulldog! She should know better, you are quite right; but her previous owner wasn't as discerning with her education as you and I, so we're still going through the adaptation phase. To be fair, no cables have been chewed (my slipper and my cat's littler box, on the other hand...). Noted on your suggestions and, again, I very much appreciate reading all your arguments for and against what you suggest!
  • money saving : I know I should be aware of what I'm missing or not, but, like the wireless adaptor, there are things that go over my head. Also, you know what? I think you've done a great job saving me money already, so tomorrow I'm going to buy everything accordingly, except for mouse/keyboard/headphones.

Thanks. You are indeed an awesome person.

edit: I listen to a wide variety of music... probably the only kind I avoid is pop. If I had to pick 2 I listen to the most would be classic rock and jazz. If I had to pick 2 I listen less, would be r&b and lounge

Budget - <$300

Source - my phone and my laptop.

Isolation - more or less. Will be working in loud datacenters so want to prevent sound getting in as well. Would wear sometimes on trains as well.

Will you be using these headphones in public? - Rarely. Will use in-ear for portability if I take public transit.

Preferred type of headphone? - closed, over-ear.

Preferred tonal balance? - Bassier
Past headphones - Mostly use in-ear. Current Audio Technica's

Preferred Music - hip-hop, indie, electro, metal...fairly wide

What would you like to improve on from your set up? - Happy with my in-ears but looking into headphones for datacenter work. Was looking at Bose Noise QuietComfort 25 but not sure.

They are pricy, but so worth it in my opinion. I've had mine for 2 years and use them almost every day.
I travel for work, so a lot of working on planes/airport lounges. Crying babies? Drunk people? I don't hear them and it is heaven.

Budget - Up to 300 dollars
Source - My Mac, Iphone and my ps4 for gaming
Requirements for Isolation - I will use them in school, public transport and places like that so isolation from outside and to outside is necessary for me
Preferred Type of Headphone - On ear or over ear are both fine as long as they aren't stupidly big to the point where it looks weird
Preferred tonal balance - I don't really know what I want in this area but I mostly listen to hiphop if that means anything
Past headphones - I have the Sennheiser Momentum in ear s right now and I absolutely love them
Preferred Music - Pretty much hiphop exclusively
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I want something that'll 1- Block out sound from outside because my in ear pair obviously cant do that. 2- I will use it for gaming as well so I want a built in mic. 3- I also want them to look good, which is the reason why i dont wanna buy something like the Audio-Technica M50s even though it's really good (is what i heard)

These are the few that I looked at so far, if anyone owns these, I'd love your opinions or recommendations:

Congratulations! The QC25's are now $1 below your max budget.

Unless you absolutely want active noise cancellation, you can also explore with some closed headphones (Sennheiser HD25-1 II) or IEMs (IEMs can physically isolate sound pretty well too).

u/Rapid11X · 1 pointr/headphones

I really like the Bose QuietComfort 25 but I feel its too expensive for what it is. I really like the sound quality and the noise cancelling on them. What are some better but similar alternatives? A compatible volume and pause control button for Android would be a bonus. Thanks!

They keep selling their QC25 that often have one of the speakers fail.

You can see tons of reviews over the years on amazon and they still sell that shit.

I'll never buy Bose again.

You won't find the best headphones for this amount. Great headphones cost around $300, that is the reality of the situation. I suggest Bose QC25.

When I lived in my last apartment I had a very similar experience. The girl who lived above me screamed and cried every night. I got a pair of these and I couldn't be more satisfied.

u/supremacyofthelaces · 1 pointr/headphones

Are Bose worth it as a pair of noise-cancelling headphones? These QC 25's I had in mind are given high reviews online, and I have found praise for them on reddit as well, yet I have seen a number of posts saying that Bose are terrible quality for the price and only sell based on branding. I am unable to find any sort of consensus, and I can't really validate one user's experience over another (at least not with a detailed explanation with valid reasoning).

I am looking to spend approximately $300 on a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, and have heard that Sennheisers are a strong option as well. Thanks in advance for any help!

P.S. The Bose QC 25's have an apple version and an android version. Does this mean that I would only be able to use them with one or the other? Would they still work with a laptop and such? What would be the implications of this?

Please wait two weeks for the GPU conference news to come out. I struggled to get over $5k, any more and it is a real waste of money. Tech changes way too fast to make spending anymore worth it. Strongly suggest you wait till AMD's Polaris and Nvidia's Pascal get announced and benchmarks posted. We are all setup for the biggest leap in GPU performance from a generation in years[5+/-].

I use these Bose noise-cancelling ones (The Android ones since they're a newer model). They're incredible at blocking out ambient sound around my desk area (I work in a more open-like office). There's a lot of conversations that take place as close as right behind my desk, but with these headphones in and some tunes / a podcast playing, I might as well be totally alone at work.

u/SleepyAviator · 1 pointr/flying

I've been looking at a bunch of headsets lately... there's the Bose QC 25 with the nflightmic with unconditional lifetime warranty setup. You can try them for 30 days risk free. From what I've read, the QC 25s are about as good as the aviation X with their ANR. The A20s have been tuned way better but you're also paying 1/10 the price.

I hate sounds so here’s what I devised:

Musicians Ear plugs:

Pros: easy to hide, cut sounds well
Cons: uncomfortable for long periods of time, easy to lose.

Low profile ear muffs:

Pros: best thing for cutting all sounds, impossible to loose or break
Cons: not super comfortable with glasses, very obvious.

Sound cancelling headphones;

Pros; you can hear conversations super well but it blocks out the back ground sound, you can also play music to cut out all sound, socially acceptable, the most comfortable solution.
Cons: very expensive for good ones, they use batteries, they are fragile, they don’t cut out as much sound as ear muffs

I own all three of these. I wear sound cancelling her phones all day and at social events such as a diner or party since I can easily have conversations with them, I used ear plugs at fancy events or places that I don’t want people to look at me or ask me why I’m wearing ear protections (ear plugs are also tiny and great to bring as an emergency back up) and I wear ear muffs in class. I will link the best of all of these:

Sound cancelling I used, they are good but use aaa batteries instead of recharging them with USB: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M1NEUKK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IbIHDb74TF6XZ

Sound cancelling of the latest and best technology (almost double the price but they are worth it if you have the cash): Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0756CYWWD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_7cIHDbGR2SXTV

Low profile ear muffs of high quality (they are on sale
Right now too!): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06VWJL9LG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xeIHDb94GJN4V

Any “musicians ear plugs” will work but apparently these are the best ones: www.amazon.com/dp/B018WPOQSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_YfIHDbZ20X0Q4

Budget - Prefer to stay under $60, but might be flexible

Source - PC at work or my phone

Requirements for Isolation - Full isolation, I'll be using these at work. Doesn't need noise cancelling, but I don't wanna hear everyone else's phone calls and conversations.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes, at work in an open cube environment. Want to keep the outside noise out and the music in so I don't bother others.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Primarily, bluetooth or other form of wireless. I keep getting the cord caught on so much at my desk I need to go wireless. Prefer over-ear, but I do have a large head and bigger ears. I'm not against in-ear but they do get uncomfortable after a while.

Preferred tonal balance - Balanced. I'm not an audiophile but I don't want to be hearing the music mixed with static.

Past headphones - Sony MDRNC7 currently, but the noise cancelling doesn't work anymore, and the cords get in the way. Bose QC25, which fit over my ears perfectly, but I don't want to keep $300 headphones in the office and again, cut the cord. Sennheiser RS120 are uncomfortable, hear a lot of static, and got complaints from coworkers that they could hear exactly what I'd hear. TaoTronics TT-BH10, i use these to run in and getting a second pair for work would be my fallback, but just looking for something a little more comfortable. I just bought some Sound Intone P6 based on price and high reviews, but after testing them at home they don't sit well on my head and they may as well be speakers because people around me could hear everything. I installed the Bluetooth stack on my work PC yesterday and they sounded clear, but this morning they sound very muffled and washed out. I'll grab my running headphones and see if it's localized to the P6's or all Bluetooth.

Preferred Music - Usually rock or new wave, but for extended sessions i'll listen to Pandora Journey mixes.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Just a pair of decently priced wireless headphones I can wear at work while at my desk. I'm not composing music so they don't need to be professional grade

u/toodleoo77 · 1 pointr/hsp

I actually just ordered the QC25 a month ago or so to replace the QC15 ones I've used for years and loved. So far no problems. It does use up batteries rather quickly.

I also have a pair of their earbuds - they are smaller for every day travel. I wear them on the train when I commute to work. Link

u/jaapbaardaap · 1 pointr/programming

I work in an open office environment and I use a pair of Bose AE2 headphones. They don't cancel that much noise but they are really light and I don't really notice them when I am working. If you really need the noise cancellation you should look at the Bose QC25/QC35. The ear pads are just as comfortable as the AE2 but they are a bit heavier so you might notice the weight when you turn your head.
