You can try carrying an air horn with you. While it doesnt cause direct physical harm it can really discombobulate a person if used directly in the persons face. This should give you enough time to stun then run, plus it draws attention from anybody in the area which is something all attackers try to avoid.
There are now Personal alarms you can purchase for self defense. I do not own one but from what I hear they are pretty effective.

Srs, I have a personal alarm on my keys that is loud AF. Recently a man starting harassing me for money in a parking lot, followed me to my car and banged on my window. I started yelling and honking my car horn and he backed off. You can get personal alarms on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Personal-Emergency-Self-Defense-Security-Keychain/dp/B076FVX6S1

She's just a ball of positive sunshine, isn't she?

This is serious. I'm so glad you're moving, you sure do have a stalker. Call the police every time you hear a creak. I would suggest having someone stay with you when DH is out, and talk to all your neighbors and tell them you have a stalker and to call the police anytime they see anyone outside your home.

Do not tell Vacuunt anything else. I can't believe she's brushing this off. Please go buy a personal alarm, you can wear it on your belt or even your bra strap and it emits an ear piercing alarm when activated. https://www.amazon.com/Personal-HUMUTU-Safesound-Security-Batteries/dp/B07GWF36GZ/ref=asc_df_B07GWF36GZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241967399507&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14481923806982126972&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9028050&hvtargid=pla-558826845042&psc=1

The thing attached to her gun is one of those anti-rape personal alarms. What she's threatening to do might be worse than getting shot.

I have an alarm keychain that functions as a sort of rape whistle. I pull it, and the loud alarm freaks them out and they run. I highly recommend carrying one.

Hello. You most definitely are not overreacting. The plate is definitely important but be very mindful when trying to obtain it. I also recommend you get a personal alarm, something like this : http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005BDBV18?pc_redir=1414650823&robot_redir=1

It just makes a lot of noise when pulled but can be a good deterrent if you get into a particularly uncomfortable situation as it draws a lot of attention to you.

We’ve got Qs on all our trucks. My old volunteer EMS station has Qs on some of the ambulances. The guy who ordered the medics actually worked for for an emergency vehicle dealer and specked the sirens and horns like the fire departments.

Fun side note my wife needed a siren for a piece her band is doing (she’s a band director) so I ordered a little mini 12v siren.
When the concert is over I’m going to rig it up on a sit on fire truck for my son.

>It's always is the eyes....you will know the level of crazy youre working with.

I don't think this is the population for you. I find referring to our clients as "crazy" to be wildly unprofessional.

It's also important to understand that very few individuals who have active psychosis are violent. Folks with a diagnosed mental illness are actually less likely to commit crime than the general population, and folks who have a severe mental disorder are far more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than they are to perpetrate one. Someone "hearing information in sound waves" is absolutely no threat to your personal safety.

Frankly I do not think that you can help someone who has delusions while being fearful of them and calling them crazy. I have worked with SMI, done home visits, and worked crisis intervention in home with folks with SMI-- I say this because I know the risks. I also know how vulnerable and undeserved the population is.

When I was a baby caseworker I had a client tell me she was lonely. She had previously attached a healthcare worker, and was large in stature, so people were afraid of her. She looked me in the eyes and with the vocabulary of a fifth grader told me that "People don't like me, they are afraid of me." It absolutely broke my heart. No one deserves to walk around feeling like they are a monster, as social workers we need to make sure that we aren't part of the problem.

Now for some concrete safety tips

  • Don't show up to house visits unannounced. Set appointments or call ahead of time.
  • Don't enter the home if there are unexpected guests and/or people you do not know there. Only enter the home when it is the exact folks you expected to visit.
  • Try to position yourself in such a way that there is no one between you and the door (pick the seat closest to the door, stand with your back to the door, etc)
  • Always make sure there is an accessible log with your supervisor/ employer that lists where you are headed for the day and what time you will be returning
  • Carry your cell phone, charged, at all times. I have an apple watch expressly for the purpose that if I hold down the side button long enough, it calls 911 and texts my emergency contacts my gps location.
  • Look into carrying a sound grenade/ SOS alarm like this and wear it so it's accessible. They are not harmful and just create a really loud alarm noise.
  • If meeting with a violent offender, ask for a correctional officer to wait outside the door and/or visit with someone else from the agency if you feel the risk justifies it.

I always carry pepper spray, as it makes me feel safe. But please remember that if you do get pepper spray, it expires after a couple years usually. Also, a while back my parents got me these alarm type thingies that basically when you pull the pin from the side it makes a very very loud alarm. The idea is to throw it at whoever is making you feel unsafe. It won’t turn off without the pin back in it. In most situations, when too much attention is drawn (trust me, these are really loud) the attacker will just run. Here a link to the one I have. It goes on your keychain. Congrats on the new living situation! I'm sure it'll be a liberating feeling. A few ideas:

  • A security camera for peace of mind. You can even get small, discrete ones that look like a wall charger or other ordinary objects.

  • Pepper spray or a small defense item for your purse, if you live in a country that allows it.

  • A small personal alarm like this one, to pull if there's an emergency. Good to take on walks with you.

  • An app that tracks your location when walking so your friends know where you are, and texts them at the touch of a button in case of an emergency. There used to be a great one called Companion. Now I only see bSafe and Tego in the app store; I haven't used them but assume they're similar. Note: iPhones also now have a security feature where rapidly clicking the lock button (I think 5 times?) will dial your local emergency number.

  • In general, letting a friend know where you are / when you expect to be home is a good idea if you're in a sketchy area or out of the house for a particularly long time.

  • Occasionally shouting "Love you!" or "See you in a bit!" as you lock the door, to make it seem like you have someone over.

  • Having your keys ready before you open your car or apartment door, so that you're not fumbling and vulnerable.

  • Practicing eye contact with strangers / not looking at your feet when walking. If you look confident and unafraid of people, you're more likely to be left alone.

  • Self-defense classes, if it's an option. I once bookmarked a great YouTube channel that covers some basics to practice at home, I'll try to find it for you.

  • "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker. A great book for recognizing potentially violent people and learning to trust your instincts. Despite how it sounds, it actually emphasizes the importance of not being afraid of everything, so that you can recognize fear and act appropriately when you're actually in danger. It helped a lot with my anxiety and assessment of situations. I suggest it to everyone and have bought it for many of the women in my life.

I'll edit if I think of anything else. Enjoy your new place and be safe!

u/adrij · 6 pointsr/electronics

Buy a personal alarm. They'll probably give a better size:loudness ratio than anything you can rig up.

u/EnthuZiast_Z33 · 6 pointsr/PublicFreakout

Honestly something like this wouldn’t be a bad idea to attach to the handle bars or something:

Vigilant 130dB Personal Alarm - Backup Whistle - Button Activated with Hidden Off Button - Bag Purse Key Chain Keyring Clip - Batteries Included - for Men Women Kids Students https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FX2PFFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yeMTBbJWGH0SR

On top of that, use LoJack so you can track your bike if it gets stolen.

u/Australiapithecus · 6 pointsr/AskElectronics

Firstly, as /u/PotatoPotato142 has pointed out, a little 9v battery hasn't got a hope of operating that horn. (I assumed you knew that and were using a suitable battery; my bad).

You'll need a car/bike battery or similar that can supply a few amps. More than the current rating of the horn itself, in practice - since a horn is basically switching on and off at its operating frequency, peak current will be higher than the average current. I guesstimate maybe 4x or more.

> From my understanding, once you apply at least 0.6V to the base, the collector-emitter basically become a straight wire, with a small resistance.

Nope. Transistors are linear (within reason/specs, and grossly oversimplified for explanatory purposes) devices, not switches.

Again, grossly oversimplifying for explanatory purposes (and stating that to avoid a repeat of the whole "are transistors voltage- or current-operated devices?" academic argument 😉):

  • Below ~0.6v or so (depends on transistor type/size/construction) base-emitter voltage, they're off / open circuit.
  • Between ~0.6v and some upper limit (again, depends on …) they act sort of like variable resistors - as the base-emitter voltage (which also means higher base-emitter current) increases, the collector-emitter 'resistance' decreases.
  • The ratio of that change (i.e. base voltage to 'resistance') is the Hfe, or 'gain', of the transistor.
  • At some point they 'saturate', reaching their minimum 'resistance'.

You can use them as switches - in fact it's pretty common, especially in digital/logic circuits - but you need to drive them into saturation.

Now, you said "with a small resistance". Define "small" 😉.

Because, for a MJE3055, that "small resistance" at saturation amounts to ~0.8Ω. Which does seem quite small - but Ohm's Law will tell you that, if your load is drawing 10A, that 0.8Ω will drop 8v across it.

And to drive it into saturation, you need to raise the base voltage high enough. "High enough" varies somewhat with collector-emitter current, but in the case of a MJE3055 passing 10A, it means "high enough that there's 3.3A flowing through the base-emitter junction". I'll leave you to figure out the datasheet & do the maths on that 😉

NOW … having been through everything and said all that: have you thought about using a piezo siren like this? (No affiliation; simply the first one that came up when I searched Amazon for "piezo siren'). Ear-piercingly loud little f'ers, and commonly used in portable movement/theft alarms like you seem to be making. They'll even usually operate off a 9v battery for a few minutes before draining it…
u/dancetroll · 5 pointsr/rocketry

This is the "screecher" I use. It does the trick for us in the Oregon sage brush. Can't usually see a rocket from more than 20-30 feet away on the ground. I had one go about 6700ft up last year, landed a little over a mile away. Heard the alarm upwind of the rocket from about 200 feet away.

The other tips here are obviously good. Bright colored chute for visibility when its on its way down. Don't take your eye off of it when its coming down and pick a marker on the horizon (hopefully you aren't in Kansas?) to walk towards. They are always farther away then they look like they are going to be.

I just bought these for a friend who took her teenage daughter to NYC--tried them out and they are super-loud: https://www.amazon.com/Mengde-WCH8211-Emergency-Electronic-Decoration/dp/B01MQF2T8O/

Seems like something like that ought to give you a sufficient feeling of security to get to the gym.

Talk to local police, local mental hospital and/or counselors. I would strongly recommend taking some self defense classes at a reputable martial arts school. Judo, Krav Maga, grappling, etc.

Has abasic LED ligh but pull the pin like a grenade it screams louder than you would think possible from a small keychain. Loud enough to scare yourself when you first test it and certainly loud enough to freak any perv the fuck out and turn every head on the block your way.

u/Aimz_OG · 4 pointsr/legaladvice

I highly suggest if you don’t have money for a camera keep your phone by the door with the camera open on it in video mode and get this for significantly less than a camera https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRG2QIJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5xN0CbQAV1NDB
Tie a fishing line to it and you’re good to go

u/3uttons · 4 pointsr/AppalachianTrail

These alarms are really loud and might help you to feel more comfortable at night. There are tons of similar brands. To activate them, all you have to do is pull the pin. They are lightweight. Should startle everything, even humans.

Zwave siren plus SmartThings would do this. Everspring Z-Wave Indoor Siren - EVS-SE812-US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006T2DHPI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ySCzybZJC253M

Or, a siren that is on when power is applied, and any smart outlet.

u/tinydisaster · 3 pointsr/DIY

Sigh.. Stupid landlords.

I see the investment of a dowel or stick or something jammed between the slide window part and the wall to keep the window closed. This, as you have identified, is the easy access point.

Now, there are two risk zones left here.

1.) someone getting in while you are home.
2.) someone getting in while you are NOT home.

For the "while you are home" portion, I think door bars are pretty darn effective.

http://www.amazon.com/National-Hardware-V804-Security-Nickel/dp/B001RUEWUQ

Landlord dude doesn't seem to care about upgrades, so take them into your own hands and don't sweat the door holes. You could be mean and actually legally deduct it from rent but I don't think it's a worthwhile battle.

I also suggest you get a baseball bat.

I call this the Goodwill security system. Leave it in a known place, like on the hinge side of the door or in your bedroom area. Someone weird comes to the door, grab it and leave that bar thing set. It's useful for playing baseball on a sunny day too, and it doesn't look like anything, so your friends won't think you are crazy.

You are also going to want two of these.

http://www.amazon.com/Vigilant-PPS8B-Personal-Student-Emergency/dp/B005BDBV18

Tie the cord onto the bat, the other one goes with you. Have it out and around your neck when you walk from the street to your door. I can sense you have identified this as a risk point and it seems logical.

You probably have a lamp, so get a cheap lamp timer and position it so the light spills near to the door / outside the apartment. Put a CFL or LED to save the environment and save $$ on electricity. Set it on from 6 PM to 2 AM. Come home before 2AM.

This pretty much covers part 1.

Part 2. This is probably going to be a burglar type situation.

I think a huge part of this stuff is to not look like an easy score. Simple things are to leave a TV or Radio on and have the blinds closed. Put a curtain on that door/window thing too.

If you buy a nice new thing, don't have the blinds open so people can see them from outside, and don't be obvious when throwing away the boxes.

Garden lights might be effective and a cheap solution to stab in the big shrub bed. They are relatively inexpensive so if they walk, you know you have landed in an especially bad neighborhood.

When I've traveled around, places like, New Zealand, you are very safe, but petty crime is really high. My friends I was staying with kept everything of value (cameras, hard drives, laptops, passport etc) in a simple locking filing cabinet. Most of the junk just sorta lived in it, but it especially all went in when they left for the weekend.. say the beach.. These are really easy to find used, like from University Surplus sales and Craigslist. Just make sure it has keys or (better) an external lock bar. You can't bolt it to the wall, floor, but you can at least put in big brick, a sack full of rocks, or old textbooks in the bottom drawer.... Anything heavy!

u/reggae_muffin · 3 pointsr/liveaboard

I think the main deterrent is always making breaking into your boat more trouble than it'll be worth. Make sure everything is stowed away when you're not on board, don't leave things laying around in plain sight for anyone to eye up. If you store anything easy to sell (like propane tanks or diesel jerry cans) then do your best to either lock them away, or to thoroughly tie them up. Get various lengths of looped steel cable and some heavy duty locks to secure anything else you might keep on deck (like kayaks or surf boards). Do the same with your dinghy outboard, and even your dinghy when you're on shore. Make sure you hoist and visibly lock your dinghy every night.

Fitting security screens on your hatches and companionway makes a big difference too, since it's pretty easy to pop a hatch with a crow bar. When you're away, pull your covers/curtains so no one can peek in and have a look at what might be worth stealing.

You can get some wireless motion sensors and set them up at various places around the boat. They'll flood the area with light and sound alarms so that's also a pretty effective method of startling someone off. There are also personal alarms which you can activate yourself if you're on board while someone tries to break in. A good ol' air horn will also do the trick. I've got a couple friends who have a Christmas ornament made of maybe 10 jingle bells tied to the back of their companion-way latch so that if anyone fiddles with it, you can hear.

u/snarfdarb · 3 pointsr/Advice

There are very inexpensive door alarms/sensors you can purchase for under $20 US (Edit: Like this). Using these on your bedroom door would both prove someone is coming in AND wake you up as soon as it happens. This might be a better option than the tape-on-the-door or camera suggestions, because in this scenario you'd wake up before the abuse occurred again (if it is happening). With tape on the door/camera you wouldn't know until the morning.

u/structured_spirits · 3 pointsr/asktransgender

How about something that makes a lot of noise? Those little personal alarm things were big for a few years, you pull a pin and it makes a terrifyingly loud sound like a smoke detector. Maybe someone's about to start a fight, you set it off and it gives you 2-3 seconds head start to run while they figure out what the sound is.

A good flashlight that won't let you down, and isn't cheaply made can be pricey. I tried to find the cheapest, yet good quality light that comes with a strike bezel in case you ever need one (hopefully you won't), but one can never be too careful.

http://www.fenix-store.com/fenix-ld12-g2-led-flashlight/

4 modes of brightness, strobe, and sos modes. Easy to find batteries AA, (don't use lithium rechargeable, but non rechargeable lithium are okay) various other types of AA you can use.

As for whistle or alarm, a quick amazon search came up with this, https://www.amazon.com/Vigilant-Personal-Backup-Whistle-PPS-23PK/dp/B008QXXN5W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1478070268&sr=8-3&keywords=Whistle+%2F+alarm

Disclaimer I know nothing of these whistle alarm things, but the reviews seem like it's good.

u/TheUsher · 2 pointsr/SmartThings

I made an alarm by using an IOT plug and a horn I bought on amazon. I did have to wire power into the horn so it could plug in.

When any of my doors open when armed, it turns on that plug and the siren goes off. It's loud. Of course if you don;'t want to fuck around, you can use a z-wave siren for about $30.

most professional/better alarm systems come with one wired siren connection but you can install additional sirens that get activated wirelessly.. the additional sirens can either be battery or hardwired.

Wireless window sensors are easy to install and they normally have long lasting batteries.. maybe 5 years or so and can be replaced.

Ademco has decent wireless contacts and devices like motion detectors.. motions should be used when you are not home. most alarm systems have 2 activated settings.. home and away.. a motion can be set in the home setting if you know you won't be going near it.. or you can disable your alarm if you need to go near that area .

Your alarm can send signal to your alarm company over a GSM Phone Sim Card you install in it so if you have decent cell service that will work.. if not you might need to buy a cell phone signal booster and that will also improve your cellphone reception.

Some of these systems will provide limited video coverage over GSM.. you can get pics sent to an email..

Also you could possibly get a WiFi Hotspot for your internet access .. ATT and Verizon have decent plans and are not really expensive .. $50 a month maybe and you would have enough bandwidth to check your cameras when you are not home.

You will have to do your research on the products you buy

Cellphone Booster (would improve your cellphone and alarm system both)

https://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-Signal-Booster-Amplifier-Repeater/dp/B07GB33SK8/

https://www.amazon.com/KKBSTR-Carriers-Cellular-Repeater-Amplifier/dp/B07BJYWN4R/

Honeywell alarm system starter kit with with Wifi, Zwave & GSM Module

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VW0AVXS

zwave siren AC with Battery backup with strobe

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006KH48VY/

zwave siren battery only

https://www.amazon.com/VISION-ZM1601US-5-Z-wave-Wireless-Battery/dp/B01GQW2YC2/

Honeywell cameras to work with your alarm

https://www.amazon.com/s/&field-keywords=honeywell+camera

you may want an additional NVR Camera System but it won't work with your Alarm and the GSM Phone Sim .. Also you will need an alarm contract to view your cameras from your alarm system..

If you install an internet hotspot from ATT Verizon sprint whoever .. that will be your system to monitor and it won't be passed through your alarm system or alarm company.

Alarm.com is a decent company to go with for self monitoring .. if you just want a basic account to access your alarm and alarm attached cameras..

suretyDIY is a reseller of Alarm.com and they also sell alarm kits

https://suretydiy.com/store/

Other options you might want are smoke detectors that set off your alarm system

Good Luck .. being out in nowhere I strongly suggest that you document all of your belongings .. get serial numbers and pictures of everything from your stove to your lawn mower or tractor and take pics .. and depend on your insurance if you're not home to defend it.

Also remember to tell your insurance company you have a system so you get a discount

If you have to go into a private area plan ahead. Try not to stay in a room with only one exit. Always back your car into the driveway so you can make a quick getaway. Keep your weapons on you at all times. Maybe get an alarm like this one in case you're approached in a semi-public place like the last OP was.

Good luck.

Here's a link to them on amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B076FVX6S1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I learned about them in a police class for civilians that I took. They said it's better than pepper spray because you can accidentally spray YOURSELF with the pepper spray, and also because of the drawing attention to get help.

I would highly recommend going all the way with a solution like samsung smartthings, the home monitoring kit can get you going. With this approach you can not only add internet based security, you can smartify many other things in your home. As for security, I added this alarm to my smart hub. The hub will automatically arm once I leave my house (based on my smartphone) and if there is a intrusion, the siren will sound plus you will get a notification on your phone that a sensor was triggered (motion/door opened/etc...). There is no subscription fee or anything like that.

You can also integrate it with other things like Nest and Amazon Echo, so I can say "Alexa, turn on living room light" and echo will talk to smart things which will turn on my light. The platform is super customizable, and works with tons of smart devices (not just Samsung).

A personal alarm is not a bad idea either. $16 and it will wake up the whole neighborhood.

Tasers are super useful but need some training to operate. Alternatively you can use a scary looking as fuck (but actually less dangerous) stun baton.

Highly recommend this

You can run as much of whatever wire you want for a perimeter. It just has to be able to pull the pin. It’s great for scaring off predators but it’s possible that if one of the birds happens to casually trip it, they’ll run farther away from the house.

u/the_annoying_one · 1 pointr/Abode

They are indoor. Purchased with the Iris system but, now that I look for them, apparently they are Utilitech

While connected to Iris, the batteries lasted years so I am going on the assumption that Abode interacts with them differently and that is why they are blowing through batteries every 8-10 weeks.

My advice is to buy these.

Many women who travel use a door stopper alarm.

i have waterbug alarms as part of a smartthings setup. they also monitor temp and humidity. basement near water tank, under sinks, etc.

check status & get alerts from smartthings & community apps. combine with a siren for audible alerts at home (in addition to any push notifications, or any other notification type you configure).

can't say it's objectively the best -- ymmv with smartthings, but i've had a great experience.

Fuck that rule. You have the right to protect yourself. They sell many disguised versions of pepper spray.

Lipstick Pepper Spray

Pen Pepper Spray

Stun gun that looks like an iPhone

Personal alarm

The "Women shouldn't have to protect themselves because people shouldn't assault women" argument is dangerous garbage to listen or respond to. Should and shouldn't is irrelevant. Assault, rape, and murder have been around for as long as living things have existed, and they always will be around. It's foolish for anybody, women OR men, to go around unprotected. Take your life into your own hands, get a tool, learn how to use it. If you can't carry a gun, carry a taser. If you can't carry a taser, carry pepper spray. If you can't carry pepper spray, carry it anyway. If you'd like any advice in how to operate or handle anything you may decide to carry, let me know, I'm glad to help.

medical help alert

You press the button and an alarm goes off and a light blinks which will draw attention to you for medical help or safety issues. Link above is to Amazon.

Fairly sure the aeotec zwave siren doubles as a speaker.

Not the Op, but corn is easy. It grows in rows. Stand in the right spot and you can scan all the way across the field, then move over a few feet and do it again. Add a beeper (like a personal safety alarm - pull the pin on main chute deploy) and it's no sweat.

Young wheat, now, or barley, and life is filled with sadness and pain.

u/ARKnife · 1 pointr/knives

Something like the SS Spyderco Delica 4 can do the trick.

With that I also wouldn't recommend using it for self defence, but rather use pepper spray or a personal alarm.

More seriously, in the military you can find exercises grenades. Pretty much like blank ammunition, just a bit more powerful. That's almost the same thing, but would only imitate the sound a grenade makes.
And in the end, we're talking about PUBG here. Never saw 100 guys jumping off a plane to shoot at each other for fun IRL.

u/Magicbananas · 1 pointr/SmartThings

i have read that the Aeotec Speaker works pretty well for the alerts.

you can also buy it with a doorbell button

Since you can't carry mace, are you in an area where people are in earshot? If so, a personal alarm (like this) might be worth taking a look at. Another option is looking into getting a safety keychain.

u/downerisdead · 1 pointr/homeautomation

Does it have to be an actual alarm clock? If not, you can do something like this siren with a z-wave controller (like a Vera or Wink). This one in particular is probably too loud, but you might be able to find one that will fit your needs.

u/FourSeaShells · 1 pointr/homeautomation

I don't think any smoke detectors will let you wirelessly set off the alarm. It's possible to trigger a wired smoke alarm to go off by sending the appropriate signal.

They do make z-wave compatible sirens for this exact purpose. E.g.

You're welcome! :) I also wanted to mention that when I was going to college I had a long walk from the classrooms to the parking garage at night. I ordered this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FX2PFFK?th=1 and it brought me great peace of mind. It is insanely loud and would bring attention to anything happening/be a deterrent. Since you live in an apartment I bet a neighbor would hear this if something were to ever happen! And, of course, I truly think you will be ok, but it can be so calming to know that IF something happens you are prepared!

u/bill-lowney · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Its crazy to me that this type of shit still happens. I don't think there is anyway to tiptoe around the issue and get a satisfactory outcome. Given your past experience you might think about investing in a [personal alarm] (http://www.amazon.com/Vigilant-Personal-PPS22BL-Batteries-Activation/dp/B005E04MK0). These things are amazingly loud, small and can't be used against you (like mace or a stun gun could). You also might think about a self defense class since you deadfished when that first asshat assaulted you.

The other thing is to document everything! Do it the day it happened! Who did it, when they did it, who you notified etc. If all this goes to court the burden of proof will be yours. Without documentation your chances of winning decrease exponentially.

In the reviews for the strobe included in that package https://www.amazon.com/VISION-ZM1601US-5-Z-wave-Wireless-Battery/dp/B01GQW2YC2/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1480880653&sr=8-1&keywords=wink+strobe people say it doesn't work for the Wink. I only need the strobe/alarm because I already have the door sensors.

I just bought this off of amazon. I don't have any feedback yet but the reviews on Amazon were pretty good.
