First thing I would do is replace the cabin air filter. See how much good that does. If still not happy then use Ozium.

This shit is deadly good. Like it takes all smell out of the car. I used to use it when I did detailing at a car lot.
Edit: it wasn't this exact stuff but I just Googled chlorine car smell eliminator and this was the first result.

u/hobbesbobbes · 7 pointsr/LifeProTips

Seconded. I have a dog, and bought a secondhand couch that smelled like smoke. Got a few of these and it took care of it.

This isn't the best, but Meguiar's Whole Car Air Refresher is good. I used the sweet summer breeze one before. It lasted about a good two months for me. I stopped using air fresheners because you're basically sitting in a enclosed space inhaling chemicals, unless you have the windows down.

u/halsey1006 · 6 pointsr/cars

A value pack of BLACK ICE, only $16 too!

But on a serious note, maybe look at one of the light up signs from this ebay seller? http://www.ebay.com/sch/valleydesignsnd12/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

I got my dad a '62 Impala sign from them last year or the year before, it's pretty neat and lights up pretty well.

You'd have to find out what a real favorite car of his is if you don't already know, but that isn't a hard bit of info to get out of a car guy.

u/Tofinochris · 6 pointsr/Fitness

People abuse the hell out of rental cars. I don't, and you don't, but people in general are gross. The rental companies use these little beauties to de-stank the car.

u/DeadFable · 5 pointsr/AutoDetailing

You want to vacuum everything out then you can use Amazon I used it a few days ago works great. Nice smell too.

u/kuebel33 · 5 pointsr/blackmagicfuckery
u/jregan0502 · 4 pointsr/XVcrosstrek

For future air fresheners you purchase, get the Maguire's Air Freshener. I used to work with an events black car service that used these before each event they would support. Smells great, lasts a while. Use it in my own XV.

u/Cory-FocusST · 4 pointsr/FocusST

Black Ice Little Trees, that's about it.

u/realmp06 · 4 pointsr/lyftdrivers

I watch YouTube or steam Google Play Movies. . . while having a cigarette in my car lol. Don't worry, I have a 4.9 rating and nobody seems to notice the smell. Remedy? I use the car fresher Ozium and over nights, I put the Ozium Gel Packs that way when I get in the car in the morning, there isn't the slightest smell of smoke.

u/Bowflexing · 4 pointsr/AutoDetailing

https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Whole-Refresher-Odor-Eliminator/dp/B00G49DVGG

I use these and have been pretty happy with them. They usually keep the "new car smell" going for a few months.

u/genmai_cha · 4 pointsr/LifeProTips

You might try a product called Ozium. It comes in gel and spray form. I haven't used it myself, but it was mentioned on another LPT thread to get rid of the cig smoke smell in a car.

u/peshgel · 3 pointsr/LifeProTips

Ozium spray is great for a short term fix, but they also make a gel (Amazon link) that is quite good - I leave one in the drawer at work where i keep my gym clothes, its been smelling good for months now.

The spray is strong and unpleasant for the first minute after spraying, but that fades quickly.. just be sure to spray a very small amount, the stuff is super powerful!

Another option is an air purifier, i have this one and it keeps my house smelling fresh while also filtering a lot of dust and dander.

u/lpmiller · 3 pointsr/headphones

this works very well too with most foul smells: http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G2316-Odor-Eliminator-oz/dp/B0036VQIKQ

u/kambeix · 3 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

This. You could also get "odor bombs". Probably more than one depending on the apt. size since they are more tailored to cars. A 2nd option is using ClO2, though the house will smell like a pool for a couple days.

u/bm96 · 3 pointsr/GolfGTI

Nothing luckily, it couldn't hurt to clean my seats though as they are cloth and will carry smells. I'll be trying this to see if helps maybe clear smell that's coming from inside the air vents, I've had that issue before.

u/dieterschaumer · 3 pointsr/EDC

I mean you got the main stuff. I fiddled around a lot with my EDC for the first two years after learning about EDC, and then.... kinda just settled into what I got.

But some ideas...

A pick kit. Gotta learn how to use it, of course, but can come in handy. And you need a kit to start learning. Also local laws apply etc. Sparrows and Southord are commonly recommended.

A fresnel lens. Hey, can come in handy. Cheap.

Key dangler. Dangle your keys from your belt into the upper quadrant of whatever pocket you keep them in. Keeps it neat, keeps it secure, and leaves more room in your pocket. Also cheap. Even better if you have a push button start vehicle and keyless entry. Along with a keypad front door of my house, I just need to have my keys on me; I don't actually have to ever remove them in the course of the day.

Watch. I personally do the smart watch thing, but G shocks, Timex Weekender, citizen eco drive are common EDC recommendations.

Bacon toothpicks. If you're a former smoker and you can't vape, these do the trick for me. https://www.amazon.com/Accoutrements-11723-Bacon-Flavored-Toothpicks/dp/B000VF5UYU

Wonder wafers

Keep one in your wallet, smell like leather all the time. Or whatever you choose.

Alternatively, a wallet. Or a hidden money belt.

Just some ideas.

u/orlheadlights · 3 pointsr/AutoDetailing

Some of this depends on how funky your interior is. I use APC for tougher stains (diluted). I use InnerClean by CG for removing dust and light stains, and it does smell like Pineapple, but the smell goes away very quickly.

I would try a car scent if you want to get away from fruity smells, something like New Car Smell by CG.

Cloth Seats - Give them a good vacuum and go over any spots with a cloth and cleaner.

APC has the ability to be diluted for all types of tasks, and sometimes the manufacturers are helpful and put them on the side of the bottle. It can be dialed down for interior use and use full strength for the nasties you find in your engine/wheels.

Scratches showing through the clearcoat and the paint will require touch up paint. That white color is most likely your primer. Compounding will not remove this.

EDIT: Saw the seats are cloth.

u/HellsKitchenVaper · 3 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

If half the place smokes weed, you're good. The smell of weed is so much more overpowering. Keep to a kitchen/bathroom exhaust or window (maybe not window since the bus thing) and you're good. If you're paranoid, look into Ozium; I use it in my room for weed and the living room for my kitty's litterbox and it completely removes any lingering smells.

e- The gel Ozium, not the spray; haven't used the spray and don't like aerosol stuff. LINK

u/FightOrFlight · 2 pointsr/AutoDetailing

They have chemicals that you have to buy in bulk. Its kind of hard to get exactly the same stuff.
I've heard great things about chemical guys new car smell. Maybe you can try that?

http://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-AIR_101_16-Freshener-Eliminator/dp/B002J7VX4Y

Edit: I almost forgot, I've seen the new car smell come back after cleaning a car really well. Removing the source of foul odor in a car will bring it back to its neutral scent.

u/noisymime · 2 pointsr/cars

Only have my own experience to go off, but when I bought a car with some shocking smoke smells, Meguiar's Odor Elimnator was like magic: https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G2316-Odor-Eliminator-oz/dp/B0036VQIKQ

u/CaryS3 · 2 pointsr/TeslaModel3

This is potent and concentrated but seems to simulate the new car smell really well. Dilute it before use because it's fairly strong if you don't. I suggest spraying underneath the seats or on the car mats

https://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-AIR_101_16-Freshener-Eliminator/dp/B002J7VX4Y/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=new+car+smell&qid=1566629828&s=gateway&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-4

u/mustachetv · 2 pointsr/stopsmoking

First- definitely take it to the car wash and get it cleaned. Vacuuming out the ash really well will help. If your seats are removable, you might want to try shampooing them and see if that helps.

Second- change your air filters.

Third- I picked up one of these guys on Amazon and it worked pretty well. I had the Orange scented one, and the fragrance was STRONG for a couple of days afterwards. Like, burn-your-eyes strong. I did mine in the winter though and couldn't properly air it out afterwards because of weather so that might have been why. If your truck is really bad, you might want to do another one in a couple weeks. It really worked for mine- got the scent out of the vents and you can't even tell I ever smoked in my car now.

Ps- grats on 26 days!

u/JohnLeMont · 2 pointsr/lyftdrivers

I think it's very possible. My strategy (considering I already have a full time 9-5 job) is to drive only at night during the week. On the weekends it's a bit different. I work Saturday morning, take a break mid day, then start back up later in the evening when I'm re-energized to catch the people heading out to dinner or the bars/clubs. I don't like staying out too late on Saturdays because I like to be up early on Sundays because traffic is very light and you can get around town quickly. Sunday believe it or not, is my most profitable day, where I usually bring in $150-$200 easy. Traffic in my opinion is public enemy #1 for us drivers so I recommend staying off the road during high congestion hours and busy city centers. I hardly ever accept rides to pick up at sporting events or music venues because of the time wasted getting to the passenger. I stopped going to the airport this week for the same reason, it was an absolute nightmare at LAX. Also, I'm very picky about who I pick up. Anyone with a 4.7 or less rating I won't pick up, my acceptance percentage is usually in the 35-45 range. This strategy might not work for everyone, but it works for me. Another way I make more is by just being friendly to my passengers, having the basics like multiple universal phone chargers (buy a good rated one on Amazon that won't damage people's phones), and a clean car (most of the time). I don't wash it every week but I vacuum it if it needs it and have my black ice air freshener that leaves a good scent in my car that most passengers positively comment on when they get in my car. In regards to my interactions with passengers, just trust your gut and talk to the ones who look like they don't mind conversation and leave the ones who don't alone. Just yesterday I got a $7 tip to a person I only said hello and goodbye to. Some people just want to be left alone. I could go on and on but I'll leave it at that. DM me if you want more tips.

Here's my rating if your curious.

I'll use 1 yankee candle air freshener. those are always good.

or

i like spraying this every few hours on the back seat :https://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-Stripper-Freshener-Eliminator/dp/B004CMMFK0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502205618&sr=8-2&keywords=chemical+guys+air+freshener

despite the interesting name...its actually a great smell. it's not too bold (like creepy old man smell), and its not too citrus-y. i always get good reviews on the scent.

the hardest part is knowing that soon, you wont be able to smell your scents, so just be aware that less is best.

u/CrankyMcCranky · 2 pointsr/CleaningTips

I buy Ozium from Amazon. They are the best - it actually got rid of the smoke odor in my mom's house.

https://smile.amazon.com/Ozium-804281-4-Eliminator-Freshener-Original/dp/B00K007R6U/

Amazon sells them individually, too, if you don't need a four pack.

u/frsh2fourty · 2 pointsr/Cartalk

I can't give advice for the insurance portion other than just continuing to pester them about the supplement since it sounds like they are giving you the run around till you give up but I'm guessing the dealer can't get in touch with the adjuster just like you.

What likely happened is when the mold developed it got trapped in your vents and since the shop was only paid to clean the carpet, thats all they did. So what I would suggest is finding somewhere local that rents ozone machines and stick one in your car for a day or two. Here is one in Houston from a quick search. At my old job we had one for apartments that were flooded or smoked in and we used it in my friends car once after he had a pound of rotting meat under his seat for a week in the Texas summer (long story) and it got that smell out completely. Also, pick up one of these kits and use it, then replace your cabin air filter which should cost no more than $20 and is pretty easy to do. That should pretty much eliminate all the likely sources of the smell, at least enough to sell it. If the smell still lingers a little I would also put one of these in your car too and maybe stash it somewhere out of sight so if you do go to sell it, it won't be found during the inspection. Try their spray too, that stuff worked wonders and was always a life saver back in my high school pot smoking days.

  • Go buy a mold mask, you don't want to end up in the hospital...gloves too.

  • Remove the seats and mats from the vehicle (this is easier than you think, just unbolt a few bolts hidden under the plastic pieces under the seats and pull them out...disconnect the battery from the car first). Remove literally anything else, even change. Get the car completely empty.

  • Get a dehumidifier (I think you can rent these?)

  • Pull out the cabin air filter (usually behind the glove box, googlefu is your friend).

  • Close all of the windows and let the demudifier run inside the car for about 12 hours.

  • Clean the fuck out of the car with interior cleaners and a hot water extractor.

  • Blast the AC with the heat on highest setting with the windows all closed except 1 with a small crack (about 1") for about 30 mins. Do this right after cleaning the car so it dries up any cleaning material and the water extractor you used.

  • Clean it a little more.

  • Dehumidify for 2 hour increments until very little to no water is collecting in the machine.

  • Bomb the car

    ---

For the seats: just clean the fuck out of them with the hot water extractor and any interior products you have available.

This is the highest level of kill method and exactly what I do when someone wants me to rid mold from their vehicle. This is why I charge $299+ for mold.

They smell great and last about a month or so. I always run one after I clean the interior. You can get them at O'Reilly for the same price Amazon has them. You won't be disappointed!

u/boxerswag · 1 pointr/cars

Get you a Zeo-Trap for the smell and any outgassing from whatever deposits are around.

Nice ride! Looks to be in good shape and those are low miles on what tend to be fairly bulletproof engines.

u/isababa12 · 1 pointr/cars

Keep your car clean. Turtle actually has a really nice interior cleaner which smells like Meguiar's leather conditioner, except, you can use it on everything. I use a combination of those two and it gives a hint of leather scent with a nice sweet berry type of smell.

As far as best car fresheners, most spray ones only last a week or so. If you want one of those that you stick to your dash or you hide in your map pocket's cup holder, japanese ones are the best bet. This one for example is a huge favorite of mine, it's what my dad always got and it looks sick. The japanese squash smell is really clean smelling and its sweet, kinda smells like the taste of soda candy. This brand is great too and one I have personal experience with, lasts a long time, a few months I'd say.

u/MrBabyHands · 1 pointr/trees

Blowing smoke towards it would probably help, but as long as the room is sealed it won't be a problem. I had one setup in my grow tent and I would just blow smoke into it for it to filter it. As far as effectiveness goes, it will leave the room without lingering smokiness. It will fully neutralize everything within 2 hours for sure.

For added security you can throw in some smoke absorbing Ozium to place in your room that will also pick up smoke as well as deodorize the room. https://www.amazon.com/Ozium-Eliminator-Office-Freshener-Original/dp/B008XNZZ7O

Vagina dye- why the fuck is this a thing? If anyone is looking at my labia long enough to see its color, let alone pass judgement on its color, they better have a medical license... or at least dinner plans.

Do passersby snicker at your disgusting, untoned cheeks? Do you admire the look of a blow up doll, or perhaps a roasted pig? Then you're in luck! Never again wonder, "do my cheeks look obese?" A miracle product.

Make your car smell like Nelson Mandela- this is presumably less desirable after this year's events. I say "presumably" because, hey, some people are really into necrophilia.

I can smell that disgusting cherry scent just by looking at it.

u/1020304050 · 1 pointr/mildlyinteresting

Ohhh no no no. That kind of black ice is significantly better for humanity, in my opinion. I'm talking about this wretched scent.

For the uninitiated, it's basically what would you expect to smell if you took every scented product a 14-year-old boy owns, dumped them all into a bucket, and then let that bucket ferment for a few weeks. Talking about multiple cans of Axe and Old Spice body spray, plus some trial-size bottles of Acqua Di Gio and Armani Code, and some knock-off colognes they bought on a street corner during a school field trip to NYC.

9 times out of 10, it's paired with chainsmoking-cigarettes-with-the-window-up smell. A lot of times the seats are also coated in a residue of tanning lotion and beer sweat. Every now and then, it might also have lingering notes of a girlfriend who douses herself in 10 spritzes of Victoria's Secret body spray after chainsmoking cigarettes.

Zeolite. It's a natural mineral that absorbs odors very well. Re-usable too - just place on a cookie sheet in the sun to recharge the effects.

You can find it at better pet stores as well.

Well, your first mistake was waiting a full day to vacuum it... You honestly couldn't have made a bigger mistake then that. At least it was soup and not coffee. Did it spill on the actual carpet or on the floor mat and some on the carpet? I would try one of these, they can over power anything from marijuana smoke to dead bodies to soup baking in the hot sun:

Otherwise, continue trying some carpet cleaners or perhaps buy some odor eliminator at a department store.

Black Ice scented Car Freshner
(only BLACK ICE, the others won't work the same)

Roll around for about 5 minutes with all windows down. Open one of these lil trees all the way on a sunny day. Roll up all windows and park in a sunny spot. Let that bake into your car. Good to grow.

Repeat when you notice the smell fading back to sweet dank

If the other suggestions do not work try Zeotrap It may take a couple of days but it works.

Treefrog Black Squash or Lemon, the scent is amazing and it lasts a good while too. My favorite JDM air freshner brand by far.

Change any cabin filters if you haven’t recently. I’d try something like like this first. If that doesn’t work you’ll probably need some sort of ozone machine or heavier carpet and seat extraction.

Hey guys! I've been using Adam's Invisible Undercarriage spray to keep my wheel wells black, but was wondering if you guys had a better alternative. I searched the subreddit and it doesn't seem like anyone has asked this specific question (they are usually about how to clean the wheel-well and not about keeping them black). The few other times, people have commented that they used the undercarriage spray (which is what I'm trying to move away from).

Additionally, I was wondering if you guys could let me know what you use to remove odors in your car? I don't smoke or anything in my new car, but as we all know, detailers like to keep everything in as perfect condition as possible. I've heard of people using the following:

Ozium gel

CG Stripper Scent

Ozium Air Sanitizer (which actually makes me gag/cough

CG Bare Bones - seen this recommended, but am iffy about CG as a company

Lastly, this is kind of a random question, but do you guys turn off your AC a few minutes before you turn off your car to dry the radiator and prevent mildew/mold from growing? I know people used to do this in the past with older cars, but wasn't sure if it was still a thing. It definitely seems a bit overboard.

I have a bunch of activated charcoal bags in my car already as well.

I second that emotion. I put this in my car a month ago, and every time I get in, it smells lovely. (Smelled like an ashtray in there before) http://www.amazon.com/Ozium-Eliminator-Office-Freshener-Original/dp/B008XNZZ7O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426102311&sr=8-1&keywords=ozium+car

I used these a lot back in the day. I recently picked one up again, such nostalgia.
